I can imagine being outside and looking up at these luminous colors in the sky; how fortunate to be in a good place for viewing them. I’m jealous. And thanks for sharing.

@pieceofpeace: Don’t feel too jealous – from Pennsylvania, at least, the sky looked pretty much like every other night to the naked eye. It’s possible to see visible colors when you’re closer to the center of the show (not that I speak from experience, sadly), but this far south, only the camera can see all the different hues. You basically have to aim the camera in night mode and check the results to see what you’re looking at.
Trivia Man
@Journeywoman: my iphone is old snd has no night mode, we could see just a little hint with naked eye.

Just wanted to thank all the jackals here for the kind words! It was a real treat to see them this far south.
Nice to see so many people from Central PA posting here at BJ. Howdy neighbors!
Journeywoman
@Trivia Man: Yeah, I was taking pictures off and on or maybe an hour, and there were a few moments when I thought I could see a hint of red/pink bare-eyed. But if I hadn’t been reading an article minutes before about how there wasn’t much to see without a camera, I would have gone out, looked around at a basically normal nighttime sky, and assumed it just wasn’t visible to us where we were. And that would have been a great shame, because some of the pictures I got were amazing.
frosty
@Journeywoman: That may explain why I didn’t see it. I was actually in a fairly dark sky location around 9:00 just south of the Mason-Dixon Line when my son texted us about it. I went out to check and couldn’t see anything. It may have been better earlier in the evening, too.
Rats!!

@Lehrjet: Howdy to you too!

Here in the land of lake effect, the clouds were quite attractive.
I’ve actually seen colors like that once about 30 years ago on a very chilly night. I didn’t notice how cold I was until I finally went inside. Now, reading your comments, I’m realizing how very fortunate I was to see sheets of color, bright pink and green.
Thank you.
