I dare you to watch even just the first 7 minutes of this video from Simon Rosenberg and not come away being better able to shake off the bullshit narratives and the internet angst, and not come away absolutely determined to work even harder in these next 18 days.
I dare you. I double-dog dare you.
From Hopium:
– Watch my new video on 2024 election – Working Hard and Closing Strong – w/special guests Tom Bonier & Ruben Gallego
– 3 weeks out I’d much rather be us than them
– Meanwhile Trump is unfit, unwell, unraveling and gone full burnt orange

Postcard Stamps
A bit more than 4,000 postcard stamps were donated by BJ peeps and sent to me.
2,000 of those stamps went to VAAC for their postcard campaign, which 10 BJ peeps participated in. We were able to supply the stamps for that entire project for them.
The 2,000 remaining stamps went to about 10 individual BJ peeps. I sent 100-300 stamps to each person.
I have 49 postcard stamps left, but it’s getting pretty late so I don’t know if there’s time to get them to people. It seemed to take up to a week for the stamps to arrive in the mail. Insert FU to DeJoy here.
Great job, postcard peeps.

WaterGirl,
FYI, The embedded video is not playing for me. I’m on an iPhone, running safari. When I try to play, the video gives me a “you must be logged In“ message.
if it’s not too much trouble, a direct link would be appreciated!
Best, Jim
E.
Hmmm the link wants me to sign in and when I hit continue it takes me to a different video.
WaterGirl
@Jimbales:
It plays for me on my Mac in Safari. I’ll check my iPhone.
@E.:
Are you on an iPhone?
In the meantime, can you watch it from the twitter link I just added up top? Or do you have to be logged in there, too?
BlueGuitarist
@WaterGirl:
Thank you WaterGirl, angels, contributors, postcarders, canvassers, commenters, everybody doing something to win the elections up and down the ballot! let’s keep working harder, working smarter, working together.
love all y’all
TS
@WaterGirl:
It plays fine for me on Windows 10
WaterGirl
@Jimbales: That was a direct link from YouTube by searching for Simon Rosenberg. I am perplexed.
Dark Patriot
I love Cartwright, and I’m in CT
WaterGirl
@Jimbales: @E.:
Okay, I added the YouTube video a different way.
Does that one work for you?
stinger
I just put in $25 for Rebecca Cook, WI-03, and $100 for the WI State races 2024. I did that before I came to this post and saw there were angels!
WaterGirl
@Dark Patriot: Fingers crossed!
WaterGirl
@stinger: Bonus! :-)
You are matched.

iPad, Safari. If I click the smaller bottom left button instead of the red arrow, I get the video.
The Audacity of Krope
Remains true whether we win or lose. But we’re gonna win.

I’ve listened to 10 minutes – widely positive comments on democrats, Kamala and her likelihood of winning
Quotes (may not be exact)
Early vote is very old very white – running 2-3 points better for us than 2020 Doing very well in Michigan
Kamala Harris is closing very strong as a candidate. Enthusiasm, strong arguments – its working, its resonating
trump is unfit unwell & unravelling. his performance the last few days has been terrible. Focus groups are noticing & raising these issues.
Trump won in 2016 with the help of James Comey & Russia. We have won ever since.
pthomas745
Mr Rosenberg correctly pointed out the endless “Red Wave” stories on the 2022 midterms were BS in the 10th degree.

Old School
$50 for WI State Races.
dc
I’m canvassing in Durham, NC and two close by state senate/house districts. Canvassing in Durham is worthwhile for statewide races because a strong Durham County turnout can make the difference for president, governor, state supreme and appeals courts, and other council of state races. Durham is VERY blue, so for the state legislature our state senate and rep districts are guaranteed Dem wins, but nearby winnable but we have to fight for them districts are where it’s at canvassing wise.

I had surgery two days ago (scary lump in breast), so I’m housebound for now, but I’m forwarding every helpful bit of info that pops up via text and email, and looking for phone banking from home opportunities.
Postcards sent!
WaterGirl
@pthomas745: Thanks for that. That’s how i originally found it, but I went with the embed. I added the link up top, so now there are three ways to get to it.
WaterGirl
@TS: Really appreciating you and anyone else who watches it and shares some info from the video.
WaterGirl
@Old School: You are matched!
WaterGirl
@dc:
Yay! That’s exactly the point of this final push for statewide races.
Very much hoping for reverse coattails!

@WaterGirl: I’ve finished 275 postcards to CA-47 and PA-10. I have 25 more cards and 25 more stamps to finish up today. No idea why it came out even!! It should take one or two hours. My second Ultra-Fine Tip Sharpie is running out of ink!
After that, canvassing on Election Day weekend.
ETA: My handwriting has gotten a little bit sloppy. (I switched to italic printing many years ago with a few letters connected. Looks good, readable and just as fast as cursive.)
catclub
I am in Massachusetts and saw a funny sign: ” Trump, Vance, Kennedy”
I wonder if that Kennedy try is cause the good kennedy’s are from massachusetts.
catclub
In a non-Trump year, Robinson and porn would have been front page for weeks. Instead, 5 days maybe?
Gloria DryGarden
10 minutes in. It’s close, add one point to dems in the polls, because of republican polls ( I’m loosely paraphrasing)
its close, it’s entirely winnable, keep working. The EC is close, but we’re ding the right things to win in some swing states
gosh he’s calm, so neutral. Calmly positive.
Florida frog
My postcard group is wrapping up with over 20,000 cards to infrequent voters especially women. We hope Amendment 4 (reproductive freedom) and a great local candidates help make this corner of NE Florida a bit less red.
nevsky42
Just kicked in $50 fer the PA State Races!
WaterGirl
@frosty: Your postcards are really nicely done! I have seen them so I know. You have plenty of room for sloppy slippage and still have them in the great category.
WaterGirl
@Florida frog: Wowser!
WaterGirl
@nevsky42: You are matched!

I think it’s hard for the pollsters to model the electorate, because they can’t base anything on 2020 and 2016 was a long time ago in politics world, plus it was a completely different kind of election.
I listened to about 10 minutes of that, it’s a good antidote to the gloom and doom you can hear elsewhere. I agree, I’d rather be us than them. I heard a story on Morning Edition today about a focus group of “double haters”. She said people see TCFG as the “change” candidate, but whether that change is for good or bad depends on the voter. That’s interesting, because being the change candidate is usually seen as a positive. I’m sure this is because TCFG is a known quantity; usually the change candidate is the more unknown one.
Hungry Joe
VERY encouraging video. I’ve watched about 35 minutes. Will finish it later.
Surprise joke on me: In addition to the postcards I’ve already written and mailed, I wrote what I remembered as 200 postcards to be mailed 10/26. Went to the P.O., bought 200 stamps, started putting them on … and soon realized that no, I had written 400 postcards! So, back to the P.O. I must go. I’d say that my bookkeeping skills have deteriorated, but they were never really there to begin with.
Josie
I sent my 200 postcards to Nevada on Tuesday. I want to again thank the person who donated the stamps for me to use and WaterGirl for sending them to me. All the work and donations here are just amazing.
Jimbales
@WaterGirl: thank you very much! Works fine for me now on my iPhone in Safari
RedDirtGirl
@Mel: I hope you get reassuring news soon!
EarthWindFire
I love Simon Rosenberg. Saw him speak at the VA Women’s Summit and have been following him ever since. He told us there would be no red wave in 2022 and told us exactly why, and it was dead on. His demeanor really gets through to nervous Dems too, imo.
Alice
$50 each for Cooke and for the Wisconsin state races. Thank you WaterGirl for always focusing on doing something instead of stewing! Thank you Mousebumples for the matching funds!
Fight! Fellows! Fight! Fight! Fight! We’ll win this game.
Sharon
$25 for Rebecca Cooke and $40 for the WI candidates.
stinger
Watched the whole video — very informative and heartening. Thank you, Simon Rosenberg, WaterGirl, and Mousebumples for a great start to Friday!
Gloria DryGarden
Colorado people, WaterGirl
Here is a link for Trisha calvarese in Colorado district 4, us Congress. She’s running against Lauren boebert, who we really need to defeat.
https://www.trisha4colorado.com/contact
I’ve just signed up to phone bank with them next Tuesday. Wednesday is also available. There are door knocking events in Castle Rock, Loveland, and highlands ranch. All those links are easy to find in her site.
They had a brief story about her in the radio last night, CPR (npr) she’s standing up for medical care, prescription price caps, veterans Getting medical care: Things boebert has voted against. Trisha’s family story ties in with her desire to represent people, it’s on her about page.
Mike S. (Now with a Democratic Congressperson!)
@WaterGirl: Thanks for doing this fundraising WG. Also thanks to the peps who did the research and planning for these fundraising thermometers I’m happy to help as an “angel.”
Please use my full nym in any future announcements as there is another Mike S who comments and isn’t on the hook for my commitment. :-)
H.E.Wolf
Congrats to all of the postcard writers!
And to the donors, and the canvassers, and the phonebankers.
(My postcard output is small by comparison, but I remind myself it’s all part of the great river of GOTV.)
At present, I’m spending most of my time on address updates for my state Democratic Party. Lots of people, teenagers through retirees, are stepping up to volunteer!
Ksmiami
@Mel: thinking of you as I had an earlier scare. Be good to yourself and move around as much as you can. It’s very helpful for healing and is now part of the MAYO and MD Anderson protocols
Almost Retired
@Gloria DryGarden: Excellent. I assume you’re referring to volunteering because the campaign doesn’t seem to need money. Tricia raised 2.6 million in Q3 to Boebert’s 500k. I would love to see her defeated. Have in-laws in the district.
WaterGirl
@Hungry Joe: This year we need your postcard skills more than we need your bookkeeping skills! :-)
WaterGirl
@Jimbales: oh, yay!
WaterGirl
@Alice: Thank you!
You are matched!
WaterGirl
@Sharon: You are matched! Thank you.
WaterGirl
@Mike S. (Now with a Democratic Congressperson!): I updated the match info to dd your full nym. :-)
WV Blondie
Today is my birthday. Part of my celebration is an hour of phone-banking before my husband takes me out to dinner. A week from today we’re closing on the sale of our house – part of that celebration is going to be making campaign contributions to a bunch of different candidates. Election Day happens to fall on my husband’s birthday. He’s told me there is only one gift he wants – to see the TCFG LOSE!
wonkie
I’m still writing letters for Vote Forward. I started writing letters and postcards in Jan and simply saved them to send out on the mailing date. I have written for Activate America, Tony the Democrat, Vote Forward and some other campaigns and have written to NV, Montana, AZ, NY, NC, GA, TX, FL, CO, Wis, MI, OH and PA. I have lost count of how many, but it’s probably close to two thousand. I will do at least one hundred more by the cut off date of Oct. 29. Forty are going out today,
I also have been a recurrent donor to GOTV grassroots orgs in AZ, Montana, and TX.
WaterGirl
@wonkie: Wowser!
JCJ
$100 each for Rebecca Cooke and the Wisconsin races
A couple of weeks ago I donated $500 through Lt Gov Sara Rodriguez’s fundraiser. She sent a thank you card that looks like it was actually signed by her!
mrmoshpotato
@WV Blondie: Obligatory
Cowgirl in the Sandi
@Josie:
I totally agree. I have 300 stamped postcards to Florida ready to go next week. Thanks so much to the stamp donators and Watergirl.
Eunicecycle
My husband just told me about the video yesterday! It was very encouraging to him. He would tend to be more a normie but can’t avoid me talking about elections all the time. I am proud of the fact that I converted him from a Republican 30 years ago.
Gloria DryGarden
@Almost Retired: I don’t live in the district, but I want her defeated. She’s an embarrassment to Colorado and to the nation.
You want to come phone bank?
Anyone? Sign up was easy.
WaterGirl
@JCJ: Everyone is pulling together in this fight, so glad to see it.
Sister Golden Bear
$25 each for all four angel matches.
currants
If donating last night counts, I chipped in not much*, but a little:
$50 ea for Ohio, PA, and WI
$50 for Landsman, $25 for Cooke and $25 for Cartwright.
Am working on the last of 100 postcards to be mailed the 26th, and I have 50 more coming that I’ll start next week.
Have been working with folks in my town to elect a Dem as our State Rep. Our current rep retired, and in what seems a slimey move, a longtime Republican (and realtor ugh) changed his registration from R to I just before the deadline to declare as a candidate, and is now running as a candidate –with all of his R positions intact–against a D.
*Not much because two days ago I contributed to E Warren, A Pressley, Sherrod Brown, Navajo Co. Native Organizing, and the Harris campaign.
Haven’t watched the video but I will in a bit.
ETA: Tree canopy, and developers buying mid-century tiny capes and bulldozing them, and cutting every single tree on the lot and building mcmansions border to border, is a HUGE issue in town, driving the cost of housing sky high.
dnfree
I will be a little surprised when I see my next credit card bill….I did $50 per candidate, which works out to a total of $800 if I did it right. Cooke 50, Cartwright 50, Landsman 50, OH state 150, WI state 200, PA state 300. Now I will go hyperventilate. I hope it helps.
Rachel Bakes
Repeating donations through Act Blue. Wrote 200 postcards for IL, mailing on the 24. (Nervous about such a late date!) ”Decorated” 150 postcards for CT legislature elections. (I’d rather write and address but the coordinator prints out copies of hand-written messages on postcards rather than risk not having them done in time. Or something like that. I’ll try to write them next year. Took college daughter to drop her absentee ballot in the box when she was home last week. Her first elected it’s a doozy.
WV Blonde
@mrmoshpotato: FAB-ulous! Thanks!
WaterGirl
@Sister Golden Bear: There are now 5 angel matches, but I assume you added yours before the match for OHIO was added!
JerseyBeard
If you have any kind of grind mindset I highly recommend phone banking. The Harris camping website is fantastic for making calls right from your computer/tablet. I’m connecting with 2 or 3 people worth making an argument to per 2 hr session. Training takes less than 20 mins. You can stop making calls anytime you want.
No One You Know
Mailed 200 postcards to Georgia on my scheduled mail date, 10/15. Spoke–unsuccessfully– to my most reasonable sister-in-law and that’s another unsuccessful attempt to get someone to reconsider her vote. And I’m sorry to see her go, but I am done with this. Forwarded ballot measure info to my son, who redistributed to his friends. Still donating my monthly bit to David Hogg’s Leaders We Deserve. I think my nephew’s safely Democratic but I’ll find out next week.
Wolvesvalley
Do my $100 for PA state races and $50 for Matt Cartwright yesterday count for the angel matches?
currants
@currants:
@Wolvesvalley: Wondered the same, guess it doesn’t really matter if the match is met though!
Wolvesvalley
@currants: That’s true — it only matters if the donations are lagging. :-)
WaterGirl
@currants: You are matched, at least partially!
WaterGirl
@dnfree: You are matched!
Thank you!
WaterGirl
@Wolvesvalley: Yes! You are matched.
Sister Golden Bear
@WaterGirl: Thanks for the heads up. $25 for Ohio added.
SuzieC
Thank you for the love for Ohio. Don’t know whether it is angel matched or not (I’ve lost track) but I donated $75.00 to the Ohio statehouse races. The redistricting amendment is going to pass, dammit! I’ve been freezing my ass off waving banners on a pedestrian bridge over I-315 in front of commuter traffic. Another project of Indivisible Central Ohio.
WaterGirl
The Mousebumples $500 match for the Wisconsin Statehouse Races has been met.
misswhatsis
I’m finishing up 100 postcards to voters in PA and I’ve worked three ballot cure shifts with more coming up. I got 5 packs of 50 post-its each that say “Your vote is private. No one can find out who you voted for. Vote for women’s rights and women’s lives. Vote Democratic up and down the ballot.” I stick ’em in every women’s room I enter.
I’m still a neurotic mess but every little bit helps.
pabadger
I am writing postcards, prepping a postcard packet for a friend,, and cooking some sort of dish for the campaign office. Idk what. Possibly a stir fry with tofu or possibly vegan haluski with lentil bean pasta.
WaterGirl
@misswhatsis: Love the message on the post-it notes. Where did you find them?
WaterGirl
Also love seeing all the action in this post. No letting up. We’ve got this.
pabadger
@pabadger: Next week I will focus on texting and cooking Mrs badger will canvass the last two weekends.
All told, our post carding efforts involved 10 people and will result in about 950 postcards.
When We Fight We Win!!!
pabadger
@The Audacity of Krope: we are gonna win!
munira
I watched the whole video and found it very encouraging and it reinforces my sense of the race just from looking at the way Harris is closing compared to Trump. A friend of mine just finished hosting a round of postcard parties – I helped her, and we managed to write 1700 postcards to congressional districts the Dems are intent on getting back. We managed to raise all the money for the stamps as well. We’re in Washington state and we were writing to voters in New York, Illinois and Nevada. Felt good.
WaterGirl
@munira: That’s a lot of postcards!
WaterGirl
I am pleased to see that so many BJ peeps watched at least part of the video. It was the double-dog dare thing that did it, am I right?
I’m gonna have to keep that in my back pocket. :-)
pabadger
@WaterGirl: it sure is!
