Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

75% of people clapping liked the show!

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Giving up is unforgivable.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Come on, man.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

It’s weird arguing with Christians and quoting the bible to show how antithetical to the bible their politics are.

    Good news:

“A judge tossed out a Republican Party lawsuit aimed at tightening the qualifications for Americans overseas to cast ballots in Michigan,” Politico reports.

    And somebody pissed off Vladimir:

A Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin has been found dead after apparently falling from the 10th story window of his Moscow apartment, The Telegraph reports..

T’s prep day for surgery tomorrow, so sheets, clothes, showers with “special” soap, (MRSA) and of course, the start of her internal clean and antibiotic course, so busy here.

Saw my surgeon today for follow-up three weeks after back surgery (for spinal stenosis, if anyone cares).  Pain slows up a lot of activity

Jay:  all my best to her, know those ropes.

I wrote 75 Postcards to Voters Friday through Sunday for the Michigan state Supreme Court election. I still have 200+ cards/stamps left, so I’ll see if I can write more this week before I run out of time.

In the past, Postcards to Voters would let us write within 3 days of Election Day. First-class mail’s not as fast as it once was, though, because of TFG. I expect writing to stop next Tuesday, then we switch over to special elections and run-offs.

A judge tossed out  a Republican Party lawsuit aimed at tightening the qualifications for Americans overseas to cast ballots in Michigan.

Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel turned down arguments from the Republican National Committee, the Michigan Republican Party and a local elections clerk that the state’s policy allowing some Americans who’ve never lived in the state to register to vote there violated the state constitution.

“The challenged language in the Secretary of State Election Officials Manual … is consistent with federal and state law, and the Michigan Constitution,” Patel wrote in a 20-page opinion Monday. “Because the Manual language comports with the Michigan Constitution and statutes, there is no ground to invalidate it.”
    . . .

Patel said another basis to dismiss the suit was that it was filed just 28 days before Election Day and that trying to alter the system now would result in “extreme prejudice” to would-be voters and election administrators.

The current Republican party, the party of extreme prejudice.

ETA: and Jackie beat me to it. Typing with one finger is so slow.

    This is funny!

The first winners of an Elon-Musk-backed organization’s $1M giveaway — aimed at getting voters to cast their ballots for former President Donald Trump — were already registered as Republicans — and had already voted prior to winning the money, according to a new report.

@Jay: Best of luck to her, and you. My experience with surgery has been on the table, where you don’t care very much about what’s going on; my dear wife tells me that waiting is very hard, especially when the outcome is uncertain.

I was off-line all day too. I’ll start by saying that the fall foliage is spectacular here in southern New England, so we went for a drive with the top down. But the weather’s been spectacular too, hitting nearly 80 today, so we actually drove to the beach. May have been my last opportunity of the season to swim in the ocean, which always relieves stress. A day well-spent.

    @hoppie:

Thank you all. The worrysome part is we don’t know how it is going to go, and they don’t know until they are inside. If the cancer is through the rectal wall, then it’s immediate serious surgery, removing 8″ of bowel with follow up chemo.

Recovering from surgery. Tired, emotionally drained,  and now lopsided in the boob department, but so damned thankful for having a fantastic surgeon.

My close-to-20 year old cat isn’t doing well. I took her to the vet last week and got a call with test results today that were surprisingly not bad, but now she’s wheezing a whole bunch. I hate not knowing what to do to help her. If she’s still wheezing in the morning I’ll take her to the urgent care – the only 24/7 options are an hours drive away and she hates the car so I don’t want to do that to her.

@Jackie: A Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin has been found dead after apparently falling from the 10th story window of his Moscow apartment,

If it could be pulled off, someone anti-Putin doing a couple of these could make his supporters really twitchy.  I mean, he’d deny having anything to do with it, of course.  But then, he always does.  And if the guy wasn’t reputed to have done anything (because to make an example of someone, the audience has to know what was done that was unacceptable), then every oligarch is playing Russian roulette every day.  Even more than every other Russian.
