Someone posted this great tweet last night.
I don’t recall the nym, so please out yourself for the hat tip!
Damn. The Native American turnout in Montana is *very* high this election
Sadly, this is quite unusual as MT Native Americans tend to have lower turnout compared to the rest of the state
It seems like Jon Tester’s unprecedentedly large GOTV-effort to court them is paying off https://t.co/7hUMw4grSQ

Just wanted to mention that…
Four Directions has people in the field on every single reservation in the state of Montana.
They have election protection operations in place at some of the key location.
Jon Tester participated in the Four Directions Candidate Forum on 10/10. No surprise that the lying racist Sheehy didn’t bother to attend.

We are part of what’s happening in Montana.
Remember that if you wake up in the night, or if you have trouble sleeping.
We are making a difference.
Mousebumples
Thanks for sharing the good news, WaterGirl! I saw this in a thread last night and posted it up on bsky, if anyone wants to boost it up.
https://bsky.app/profile/mousebumples.bsky.social/post/3la2fk6owet23
I have the Four Directions thermometer in the reply.
Also, re bsky, I actually made a bsky starter pack for Juicers, here – https://go.bsky.app/Vd5CXK3
I have many posters and commenters, along with some voices I see linked or front paged periodically. I’m open to adding/removing nyms, too.
I tried to link to a Balloon Juice feed that @jasiglar.bsky.social has started, but I’m not sure if that worked.
Bsky has no algorithm (unlike Twitter, Threads), so it is what you make of it. Follow or unfollow as you will. Block the assholes. Hopefully have some good conversations.
Marmot
@WaterGirl: Thanks for that, WG!
SuzieC
We’re part of that!
West of the Rockies
Those are some big numbers!
Baud
Awesome, WG.

Excellent! LFG.

If Harris wins (and I so, so hope she does), I wonder if we could look into encouraging and supporting the Native voters in OK. The are a bigger share of the population than in many states. I would be nice to weaken the GOPs death grip on that state.
WaterGirl
Forgot to mention that Bret mentioned that he can see that our donation are still coming in. I think I have mentioned that they run on a cash basis when they are on the ground. If you work today, doing relational organizing and getting out the vote, you get paid today. In cash.
So this is a two-for. We are helping put food on the table for Native families and they are getting out the vote, and hopefully keeping Jon Tester in his Senate seat!
This was one of the lovely comments in response to the tweet embedded up top.
I am not a violent person, and I have never hit anyone, but I would like to punch this woman in the face. I hope she is outed to her employers.
HinTN
@West of the Rockies: Indeed, they are. It could be the difference. 🤞🎁🍾
Jackie
YAY Four Directions!!! I refuse to concede the Senate – and absolutely refuse to believe Montanans will vote slimeball Sheehy into office.
HinTN
@WaterGirl: TBdoes12yrolds ??? That’s a really suspect handle.
Mousebumples
@WaterGirl: Sold. I’m tossing a bit more towards the general Four Directions fund for wherever they need it.
sab
People don’t vote if they don’t think it matters. Let them know it matters and they will vote. Four Directions was my biggest and earliest contribution this year.
I rarely do late contributions. Organizing staff not ads are what matter. Feet on the ground matter, and you can’t get that without organizers.
ETA And they don’t matter much if it’s too late.
la caterina
@HinTN: And the name is suspiciously close to Debby Downer.
lowtechcyclist
@WaterGirl:
“Firewater.” What a worthless, disgusting racist person.
WaterGirl
@HinTN:
I know, I saw that, too. Could any of it be more offensive?
Mousebumples
@WaterGirl: welcome to X, I guess. I think being offensive is the point. Sigh.
WaterGirl
@lowtechcyclist: And that!
Jackie
@WaterGirl:
I’m not a violent person, either, but I could easily visualize this!
Ben Cisco
@WaterGirl: Trash.
WaterGirl
@lowtechcyclist: Maybe it’s a friend of “Indians drunk at dawn” Sheehy.
WaterGirl
@Mousebumples: Thanks for boosting Four Directions on BlueSky.
Betsy
Heaven give us hope! Thank you, WaterGirl.
Auntie Anne
@Mousebumples: Thank you! I’ve been wanting to join but found BlueSky confusing. This helps a lot.
Splitting Image
I count about 36,000 votes in that list. Tester won in 2018 by a margin of about 18,000 votes. This turnout will make a real difference in the race.
Fingers crossed.
WaterGirl
@Splitting Image: You make an excellent point.
In NV, AZ, MT, GA, Wisconsin (and I know I’m forgetting one more state that Four Directions works in) the Native vote has consistently been larger than the margin of victory.

@Auntie Anne: glad to help! There are lots of good voices posting there now.

HA! Vance is already running for the NH primary in 2028.

I’ve mentioned before that I started a monthly contribution to Four Directions way back when WaterGirl first brought them to our attention. I’m so glad for that. WaterGirl, yes, all of us who contributed in any way can be proud/happy, but you should be proudest/happiest of all of us because you made it happen!
PAM Dirac
@Splitting Image: From the 2020 election it looks like the total vote will be a bit over 600K. The latest poll I found was Emerson (known R lean) with Tester behind by 3%. Native American turnout appears to be hard to definitively measure but the estimate I found for reservation voters in 2020 was abt 25K. If 2024 turnout is adding abt 12K to that it’s abt 2% which does make things very interesting.
mali muso
Thanks for giving us opportunities to make a tangible difference! Just tossed a little more in the Four Directions thermometer.
All brakes, no gas.ALL GAS, NO BRAKES!
Citizen Scientist
@Mousebumples: thanks for posting this again. Found it on bsky and it will help accelerate my leaving the bird site.
Alice
Fantastic! Four Directions gets it done. Thanks for introducing me to them, WaterGirl. They’ve become my first choice for GOTV donations.
PAM Dirac
@Mousebumples: Thanks for that. It really did make it easy to get started and so far, even though I might be missing some things, I find I really, really like that I know where things I see came from and don’t get most of what I see decided by the site.
mali muso
@mali muso: Lol, or the other way around. gas/brakes. Edit window closed too quick for me.
WaterGirl
@mali muso:
Yep.

@mali muso:
I was about to say something.
WaterGirl
@mali muso: I fixed it. :-)

Can someone explain to me why is everyone saying that Kamla Harris won’t win Iowa? I mean if the pollster is accurate then she should win it or is definitely within the range.
Baud
@WaterGirl:
Saving Montana and fixing comments. Is there anything you can’t do?
SuzieC
@Mousebumples: Same same. Money well spent.
Baud
@rk:
People are making predictions. No one knows.
Mousebumples
@Citizen Scientist: happy to help!
I can try to post up a few suggestions for acclimating later tonight maybe. Hoping kiddo bedtimes will be smooth in an hour or so but time changes are rough.

Yesterday I saw a post about spending in the MT senate race. It broke out to $450 per registered voter in MT. Crazy. No doubt targeted donations to boost the Native American vote have infinitesimally more impact than dollars spent just about anywhere else in the state.
Thanks to all the BJers contributing in all the different ways to win these elections. I’m cautiously optimistic—though still not attending a watch party.
Mousebumples
@PAM Dirac: yup! The lack of a algorithm is great – but I had to retain myself to reskeet (like re-tweet) vs just liking stuff I wanted to share. You need to reskeet to share posts (skeets) with those that follow you.
Glad it’s working for you!
zhena gogolia
@rk: Because everyone thinks they’re Nostradamus.
Mousebumples
@rk: Harris might win, but a 47/47 split is within the MOE, and there were enough undecideds or “wouldn’t disclose” or third party voters that it’s far from in the bag.
My general rule of thumb is that if my candidate isn’t crossing 50, there’s too much uncertainty, even if they’re ahead.
Maybe those undecideds won’t turn out. Maybe the RFK curious will vote for him, or swing to Kamala. Who knows?
I’m still excited about the Selzer Iowa Poll, though, because it shows an “unexpected” strength for Harris in the Midwest/Rust Belt. Women are furious, and it shows.

Mousebumples
@Marcopolo: my watch party will be on my couch, tracking socials and BJ while watching something with my husband on the TV.
9pm central is my pumpkin time. If it looks good for Harris, I’ll stay up. If it looks to be slow reporting, uncertain, or 2016-redux, I’m going to bed.
I continue to be nauseously optimistic.

This quote from an earlier post:
I’m curious whether this is being reported on either cable or broadcast news programs. I don’t have cable or an antenna, so I only see clips shared on the internet, and I’ve seen only a couple short descriptions of “the tapes.”

@WaterGirl: “Deborah Dauwner” / “Debbie Downer.”
But it was the actual handle – “TBdoes12yrolds” – that made me gasp.
My guess it’s a guy who thinks he’s funny and should be investigated for child pornography

Wow! Canvassing and phone calling jackals represent!

@Mousebumples:
This. Win or lose in Iowa itself, I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that what Selzer’s poll is showing is limited to Iowa.
Nobody had even been thinking about Iowa as a swing state, even after Selzer’s only previous poll since Biden dropped out showed Kamala behind by only 4. Whatever has pushed Iowa from red to ‘could go either way’ has to be helping us in MI and WI, and hopefully is helping Osborne in Nebraska too.
Guess we’ll find out two nights from now.

@Mousebumples: Thank you for this, just signed up at Bluesky (under this same nym) and am following everyone on your starter pack!

@Scout211: That seems like a lot–well done, us. I did another 62 doors today and when I went in, there were 3 brand newbie canvassers getting trained for the final 48 hours. Good stuff. I met some lovely people today–best shift so far by a lot.

Feels very fitting for Native American Heritage Month!

We need an native Ohio writer to explain What’s the Matter with Ohio?
Good chance it’s all the Democrats’ fault, but I’d like someone to explore the question. I haven’t lived there since ’99, so I am at a loss to understand or explain.
Argiope
@Melancholy Jaques: I’ll start. First, the Portage County sheriff kept his job after pulling this bullshit: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/10/15/portage-county-ohio-sheriff-voting/
Apparently the Clark County guy wants us to hold his beer.
Mousebumples
@FelonyGovt: I’m following you back, and everyone else who joins with the starter pack. Glad to have you there!

Has anything been noted on Ohio? What with the Haitian cruelty in Springfield, and isn’t there an initiative or referendum on gerrymandering, Brown’s senate seat – plus WOMEN! Is Ohio a possible sleeper state?
Another Scott
@Melancholy Jaques: Springfield can’t catch a break (Springfield is in Clark County)… :-/
Maybe it really was his meds, maybe.
Dunno.
Cheers,

@Jackie: Unfortunately, the state league ratfucked the ballot initiative language to make it sound like the opposite of what it will do, and that’s causing us problems. The OH Supremes let it stay (R-dominant currently). It’s become quite partisan. Hopeful but not as hopeful as I was for our last ballot initiatives (legal weed and reproductive rights).
Chet Murthy
@Another Scott: Sweet Jesus, that’s wonderful news!
Ohio Mom
@Mousebumples: “nauseously optimistic” describes me as well. That’s a great description, I’m borrowing it.
Mousebumples
@Ohio Mom: it is the perfect way to describe my optimism and 2016 PTSD, lol! And I borrowed it from someone else, so I’m happy to share.

Lily Gladstone has put out an endorsement for Tester with encouragement for Native Americans to use their power by voting.
columbusqueen
@Jackie: I think so. The last poll shows Trump up by 3, which is a 5% drop from 2020.
