Got my ears lowered today. Told the stylist to make me “look less like I spend a lot of time in my pickup making angry videos about trans kids” and this is what I got:
I’ve gotten so gray.
At any rate, leaving in the am, so I am off to bed. Holler at ya from wherever I am tomorrow night.
NobodySpecial
We’re the same age, Cole, and yeah, that gray is marching on relentlessly, ain’t it?
Baud
Looking good, Cole.
Quaker in a Basement
Roll steady. Stay safe.
Suzanne
Looking good! Safe travels.
I did an 18-mile run this morning. Tripped over one of these broken Pittsburgh sidewalks and took a tumble at about mile 10, and banged myself up a bit. My Apple Watch gave me an alert that said “It looks like you took a hard fall” and gave me a button to call EMS. So cool!
mrmoshpotato
Happy trails to you and the cats.
mrmoshpotato
@Suzanne:
Great googly moogly!
Hope your bones and all else are ok.
Bard the Grim
Safe travels, you stylish dude.
Baud
Now you look like someone who spends a lot of time in my pickup making adorable videos about trans kids.
Rusty
I’m a bit older, late 50’s. I’ve avoided getting as gray by completely losing my hair instead.
Starfish
I really like this haircut. It looks a little more older and mature than the other haircut you were getting, but it feels like it fits your giant melon.
sab
I would let my trans niece near you. She was from Ohio so she might like you. She may even already read you.
Be careful on your drive and don’t let the crtters drive. They are unlicensed and don’t know the rules of the road.

waiting for him to break out in Burl Ives deep timbre singing “Silver and Gold” at the drop of a hat.
Mai Naem mobile ¹
Drive safe JC. You could color your hair. My almost 80 yr old uncle colors his hair and honestly it looks bad and weird especially since my younger than him uncles are all grey/white.
Andrya
You’re looking good, Cole. Bon voyage.
Aziz, light!
Stay frosty and don’t listen to AM radio on the way. The stupid, it burns.
Sister Golden Bear
@Starfish: Seconded.
Safe travels, John.
Suzanne
@mrmoshpotato: Knee is a little scraped up and swollen, but NBD. Surprised me a bit, though!
EZSmirkzz
I’m in my early seventies and still have a lot of brown hair. Scottish fur I suppose. Nice to see you have a comb John. Drive careful across the bridges. You know that already, but it’s winter so pack some cat liter and candles and vacuum packed groceries. I’m sure you still loves you some MREs.
Actually you look like a college professor who doesn’t want to hear any of that “Where there’s a will there’s a A” stuff. I won’t call anyone any names while you’re gone. Be sweet.
Dr. Regina Phalange
Safe travels! Love the posts on Bluesky and looking forward to connecting with peeps form here over there!

a touch of grey kind of suits you anyway

(if ever there was a fall into the picture procedural endless loop GIF of Cole into the reflections of his sunglasses displaying the photo image on the phone/camera, zooming in, only to discover one is back at frame one and … Well this is it, but I’ll wisely leave this task up to Baud’s secret North Korean CGI team.)
I always found the Allman’s and Feat to be pretty good travelin’ music, but you’re mileage may vary.
Peace,

My husband is having problems with satby’s cats. We have had the same problems before, like with Dobby the Demon cat who hated and feared husband and now follows him around like a puppy. Dobby heels without a leash. I have never trained a dog into a good heel.
Husband is loud. He thinks he is a cat whisperer because our cats like him, but he cannot actually whisper. His volume scares the new cats.
When shown where a new cat is hiding he sticks his face up and loudly chats at them. They don’t like that. Happened today with Solomon in Solly’s new cubbyhole. Solly trotted out and trotted into the next room and a new hideyhole.
This will work out. Dobby used to hate and fear him, and now watches tv in his lap.
Might take longer for the dog. She does not understand why the new cats can’t even say hi
ETA Shadow our former feral sleeps on top of husband every night, I wish she would sleep elsewhere.
RaflW
That’s a good haircut, John. Hope you get a good night’s sleep, too.

@Aziz, light!: I miss long road trips out west with AM radio in the olden days. AAA baseball (Albuquerque Dukes!), local talk from LA and SC and SF, Coast to Coast with Art Bell, unexpected pockets of niche music (polka! Mariachi! Opera! Sousa marches! Could be anything!).
About 10 years I was briefly commuting at about 5 AM in Wisconsin and entertained myself trying to pick up distant stations. Even printed a cheat sheet of 50,000 watt stations to help. Bonus points for figuring out the city with traffic and weather reports without hearing the major city name.
Denver was so strong I even called into the talk station more than once. Dallas, New Orleans (or something in the neck of the woods), Boston, NYC, Iowa, Detroit, Pittsburgh… amazing clarity off and on.

When my beard turned gray, I got a beard trimmer and now I have a mustache and goatee, which I keep closely trimmed. I look a lot younger as a result. One young guy recently thought I was in like my 50s, which made me laugh.
Yesterday, I was gagging on gauze to staunch the bleeding from where my bicuspid used to be. Today, I have a suture coming loose, which my tongue is obsessed with. So far, the meds have kept me pain free.
We all have roads to travel. Some are shorter than others. Safe journey Cole.

A reminder: CaseyL and I will be meeting at the Rusty Pelican tomorrow at 12:30. No pressure, but it would be nice to be with peeps at this time.

@Trivia Man
A feature of the Imperial automobiles of the late 1950s and early 1960s was an AM radio with not only preset buttons but also one marked LOC and one marked DIST, supposedly to configure the power antenna and electronic internals to better pick up local stations or distant ones.

@Yutsano
Fingers crossed other jackals elect to come.

@Dr. Regina Phalange:
Love your nym!

My husband has never actually seen the whole Echo the cat, and she continues to tease him today. Snuggles in my lap then flees when she hears him. Maybe he shouldn’t be so loud. I am very quiet around cats.
thruppence
My ever increasing forehead does not seem to be a sign of ever increasing wisdom, unfortunately.
JustRuss
Given what they had to work with, I’d say your stylist did pretty well. Seriously though, you’re looking good, and grey happens to most of us, if we’re lucky to live long enough.
Thor Heyerdahl
Insert witty road trip comment here and wishing you safe travels.
Jackie
Looking spiffy, JC! Love the trim!
Safe and uneventful travels!
Jackie
@EZSmirkzz: 😂
JC’s traveling with two cats. Cat litter will be involved 😁
MCat
John, you look great. Have a safe trip.
Greg Ferguson
Please have a good road trip – we look forward to you being AZ again, and the season has finally become seasonal. If you & Joelle have any reason to visit Tucson, give us a heads up. 👍👍❤️❤️🌵🌵🤠
mrmoshpotato
SNL, you chickenshit pussies! Shove this intro!
NotMax
Brr. Temperature dropped like 15 degrees in the last half hour. Supposed to dip into the high 50s overnight. Plus it’s raining on and off.
(That’s degrees F for you foreign sticklers.)

The Grammy nominees are out.
Chacal Charles Calthrop
Safe travels & keep checking in. I think it’s a good suggestion to not let the critters drive.
Yutsano
@prostratedragon: I had no idea Wayne Brady was doing The Wiz revival! I bet that must be some great fun for him.
thalarctosMaritimus
@Yutsano: Edmonds? I might be able to get there from the Kingston ferry. The other locations are too far away.
If it’s Edmonds, I’ll see whether I can get coverage for my patient and get there for a couple of hours.
CaseyL
You’re lookin’ good, JC. Real good. Safe travels! May you and the critters arrive happy and sane at the Arizona house. Looking forward to your next remodel/interior redesign, and to more Joelle!
Echoing Yutsano: we hope to see Seattle jackals at brunch/lunch tomorrow!

@NotMax: Time to reintroduce yourself to your furnace.
MagdaInBlack
@NotMax: Interesting we have similar weather. Chicago-land low “50’s and raining. I was thinking what great sleeping weather this is 😊
thalarctosMaritimus
@CaseyL: which location? I hope it’s Edmonds.
mrmoshpotato
@MagdaInBlack: Time to break out a heavier bedspread.
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@mrmoshpotato:
What did they do?
mrmoshpotato
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): Sucked Dump’s asshole.

They’re being sarcastic and it’s tongue in cheek, but I still don’t find it funny

@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): I would’ve preferred a humorous intro about how were going to fight the fat, orange, fascist shitstain.
Or maybe Maya could’ve played a song. Remember how Kate McKinnon was holding back tears in 2016?
mrmoshpotato
@NotMax: Hehe. Space heaters in paradise?
NotMax
Wow. Co-leader of Scotland’s Greens didn’t hold back.
Yutsano
@thalarctosMaritimus: Did I forget to say it’s the Edmonds location? Yes it’s Edmonds.
EDIT: Yes I’m a dolt and forgot the location! Sorry about that. We’re meeting at the Edmonds location.

@mrmoshpotato: I was just thinking of Kate playing and singing Hallelujah tonight. Back when we thought that election was the worst that could happen.

A thoughtful piece.
Hang in there, everyone. It’s going to be a slog.
Best wishes,

Safe travels, Cole! And the new haircut is really quite good.
As far as stuff to listen to on the road goes, there’s Spotify or Sirius XM, or if you’re still into CDs, you can fit dozens of albums on a thumb drive if your radio has a USB port, and just hit Mix.
@zhena gogolia:
Yeah, the MSM are going to be worse than worthless until this reign of error ends, in whatever decade that turns out to be.
Somebody needs to tell the WaPo that “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is a succinct post-mortem.
donnah
Looking good. People always say, “Drive carefully” when you leave on a road trip, as if you will just go and drive into a ditch or a parked car for the fun of it. I always tell people to drive like a madman but keep an eye out for the highway patrol.
Nancy
I’m older than you and grayer than you. I’ve decided that gray hair looks good.
About the big head syndrome: That means more room for brains. You must be really smart.
Happy travels.
way2blue
Much better! And can I ask: ‘What about the pets?’. Are they okay?
Kayla Rudbek
@Mai Naem mobile ¹: or he could try purple shampoo and conditioner to brighten up his white hair (the gentian violet cancels out brass tones). I’ve been playing around with it and it’s fun to try. Once it gets all white and I retire, I may start playing with blue and purple dyes, in a 1980s color palette.
The Unmitigated Gaul
@thruppence: Hahaha! (I’m using that)

Looking good John! I’m 61 and bald what hair I do have left is salt and pepper (mostly salt at this point)! Aside from that my health is better than average for my age. I’m in the gym 5-6 days a week during the later Fall and Winter, and do a good bit of running and biking the rest of the year.
