This from the current Democratic Governor of Colorado, who is a self-styled Libertarian :
Next in personal choice: those white lines in the middle of the road, do we really need to stay on one side?
He’s up for election in 2026 and since I’ll be moving to Colorado, I’ll relish voting for his primary opponent.

BBC describing RFK Jr as “Vaccine skeptic.”
Uh, guys, you cannot use skeptic to describe someone who serially calls vaccines “a holocaust.” This is not acceptable, ever.

Polis should just stop talking, he’s already done the damage with the first xheet.
If RFK actually gets confirmed, it’ll actually be easy to know what to do in the face of a public health crisis – The exact opposite of anything he says.

I’m sorry, but how will this idiot hold the HHS secretary to any standard? Specifically, what will he do?

As horrified as I am, if not surprised, by all his picks so far Trump has yet to choose Interior and EPA.

I’m a Denver resident, and fortunately, Polis is on his second term as governor here and, due to term limits, can’t run in 2026.

Even assuming the premise of Polis’s tweet, that some of RFK’s views are “good,” the idea that he will not abandon his good principles to conform to Trump’s agenda is ludicrous.

I am honestly anxious about ever masking again, though I’m hardly in the worst area for that. Yes it’s a reality-show cast, but it’s a deliberately chaotic one, and pretty much every one of them is a lightning rod.
The media and the Senate will tie themselves in knots trying to figure out who’s In and who’s Out, the rubes will howl with laughter and — as Johnson said in a different context — not notice their pockets are being picked, and the grifting and corruption will proceed unabated and almost unnoticed. (I suspect the hand of Reichsführer Miller in at least some of this.)
That it results in MAJOR damage to governing institutions across the board is, for the Orange Thing and his frankly idiotic supporters, a feature not a bug. The latter will howl when it inevitably stings them, but loyalty goes only one way in that relationship, and they’ll almost certainly blame the wrong people anyway.

bbleh
@Jay: @MagdaInBlack: but seriously, I DON’T think so, and this may be why he HASN’T yet nominated anybody. And for the same reason I think there actually may be some pushback against the Pedophile for AG. Treasury and Justice — parts of it, at least — matter to the MONEY boys. The “rule of law” is a foundation of PROPERTY OWNERSHIP, and T-bills are arguably THE primary vehicle of the dollar as the world’s “reserve currency.” Even Putin might get nervous if the Orange Idiot starts tinkering with the stability of Treasury or the parts of Justice that have to do with property rights. (Civil rights, of course, are another matter.)
So the Pedophile may be a step too far. And some RFK-like whackaloon at Treasury I think definitely would be. The rest of the idiots — Dirty Hands Fox Guy, Tulsi the Unmoored, and of course Pandemic Bro himself — could well be approved. And then everybody gets a little of what they want. Classic.

Go with a suspension lift, and taller tires. Way cheaper than what you will get for a trade in and the cost of a new(er) truck.
Canopies are tricky. They aren’t water proof. They can be modded to be a bit more waterproof, but that does not last offroad.
When I had my ’84 Toyota P/U, I built a fiberglass and foam insulation liner for the bed, sealed it to the canopy with more fiberglass, then insulated the canopy.
It was okay for one guy and a dog, 365.
The truck was good off road, but got a lot better when I added a 3″ lift, lockers, 38″ tires, winches, etc.
And of course, a proper camper shell would have been more comfortable.
There is a reason why almost all “Expedition” vehicles are built, not bought.

You can set up a bank of maintenance free AGM Deep Cycle batteries in your garage or basement, (they don’t off gas), have an electrician set up either a manual switch or an autoswitch, a charge controller. so that the battery bank get’s filled first before power goes to the grid, and when the power is out, the solar goes to the battery bank, not the grid, and your house draws power from the batteries.

Thanks for this info. Much appreciated. Oddly, the Bluebook is still more on this 2019 AWD Toyota Sienna than I paid. Don’t know how long that will last. I bought it used in 2021 at a song. It’s now considered very low mileage.
I will keep my AWD Ford Escape for every day use until it dies. Love it more than that Subaru that I put 250,000 miles on.
The thing about the truck situation is where I live now. When my life changed, it really changed. I prefer to haul my own trash, recycling. Waste Management pickup is about $1200 a year. I can haul 5 miles for free recycling. Pay for tagged trash (under the counter stuff)…it works out to about $90 a year. $1200 vs $90….a no brainer for me.
The big thing is I am on 3 acres. Lots of tumbleweeds and brush to keep up with. Pack rat and critter nests that I have to stay ahead of. Between that and some other reasons, having a truck just would work better.
I always love getting opinions and help. This community has always been great for that. Not being dismissive of your thoughts. I’m working my way thru it. I haven’t ruled out the lift in Prescott. Just not convinced it solves my problems. I don’t want to have to keep dealing with borrowing a small trailer and hooking it up every time I have to haul brush.
Some would say, “get a yard service.” But, I like physical labor…it’s my release…I like doing that kind of stuff as long as I can. Not a gym or yoga person. I get out and work in the dust and dirt, cutting and moving stuff.

New, $400 to $2000, here registration and insurance is $50 a year. Used is even cheaper. When I worked at the Orange, our used industrial 8′ rental trailers would go at auction for $350 to $600, and they were built to last.
Trailers are a lot easier to load and unload of “stuff” than a ground clearance P/U box bed. Makes your back happier, even though it is an evil design trying to cripple you, unlike knees.

Death statistics are public records in almost every developed country, and hard to manipulate.
So excess deaths are straightforward to estimate. This was done regularly for Russia by e.g. Moscow Times; the Russian state statistics service (Rosstat) continued to publish accurate death statistics, even though the Russian government was publishing COVID-19 death numbers about 1/3 to 1/4 the excess deaths. (This was to reduce the possibility of international travel restrictions for wealthy Russians.)
Moscow Times would publish both the official numbers and excess deaths numbers, frequently, for the first year (or two?) of the pandemic.
Oh, and Russia had pretty much the worst pandemic response of any large developed country. Close to twice as bad as the USA.

I’ve met a variety of self-described libertarians in my life, but I haven’t met any who were not assholes. Back in the day when I was supervisor of a mainframe operating system support group, one of the guys who I pretended to supervise would bend your ear for hours with his Ayn Rand bullshit. He turned out to be one of the laziest and most dishonest technical people that I’d ever met. I got rid of him as soon as I could.

There has been speculation that a POTUS Trump would abuse the power to declare recess of both Houses of Congress if they disagree on recess details, potentially for his full term in office though lack of a budget of any sort might be an issue. Would need to hastily repeat after the midterms.
Just idly wondering if this is what Kurt Gödel spotted:
The Supreme Court could be an issue, but killing (ETA or imprisoning or etc) any SCOTUS members giving him trouble as an official act, then self-pardoning, would neatly take care of that.

I’m really late to this but just want to point out that our glibertarian tech bro of a governor also pushes the same deregulatory, trickle-down housing policy bullshit originally funded by fellow tech bro Theil and subsequently pushed by other entitled, white people on this blog.
Tech bros will be the death of us all.

I saw that Polis twit posted somewhere else and I couldn’t fucking believe it. Thought it had to be parody.
