Hey everybody,
Let us know in the comments if you are interested in joining a Thanksgiving zoom.
If you are interested, what times might be best?
At most, we’ll have two, to accommodate various mealtimes and time zones.
And if you’re a YES or a maybe (depending on what time the zooms end up being) send me an email so I can send you the link.
SiubhanDuinne
I’m in! Any time afternoon or evening is fine with me (I’m a singleton, so I can eat any time).
PaulWartenberg
I am with family at my brother’s for Thanksgiving, so likely no-go.
If there’s a Black Friday or Sleep-in Saturday Zoom, I would attend.
Dr. Jakyll and Miss Deride
Would prefer afternoon (California time), but early evening might also work.
mali muso
Put me down as a maybe. Just hanging out with my tiny immediate family of 3, so things will be very chill.
Phylllis
I always enjoy these. An evening (EST) would be nice.
JoyceH
I’m a maybe. Got COVID so I might feel too snarly.
Rheinhard
I’d be interested in chatting with other … Balloons? Juicers? What the fuck is the collective name for commenters/adherents of this site, anyway??
I have rather few commitments over the next several days, as I’m teetering on the edge of being an “adult orphan”, as my only close living relative is my elder mother, whom I will be having a Thanksgiving lupper (lunch/supper) with tomorrow in her nursing home around noon Eastern. I’ll be free later in the afternoon and evening, and for most of the rest of the long weekend (save for another video call with an old college friend at 2pm Eastern on Saturday). So mark me down as potentially interested, save for those already committed time slots.
Kayla Rudbek
Put me down as a maybe depending on time (turkey trot run in AM, home to change, then about an hour’s drive to my mother in law’s house). Hopefully my annoying eldest brother in law will be home in Texas instead of here in Virginia. My father in law is moderately annoying as well but he’s completely deaf so we don’t have to talk/write notes to him that much, just tell him he’s being too loud as he can’t hear himself talk.
Scamp Dog
I’m interested! I enjoyed the Zoom last year, and want to do it again.
Old School
@Rheinhard:
Usually “jackals”. But I’ve seen “Juicers” used.
CaseyL
I’m having an orphan Thanksgiving with a neighbor at 1:00 West Coast time, so I might be available for an evening Zoom. Say, after 3:30 my time? Might be too late for everyone else, though…
Kelly
Remember to set your bathroom scales back 15 pounds tonight for Thanksgiving
Snarlymon
I could do any time as I’m doing the Hermit thing this T-day. Just to make it clear, I don’t have to have Covid to be snarly.
narya
I’m dining at 4:30 Central, so earlier works for me–but it looks like that’s a minority, so don’t worry about accommodating me. I’d be a strong maybe anyway, as I’ll be baking bread and preparing the creme brûlée and such.
WaterGirl
@CaseyL: I suck at time zones, so you’ll have to be more specific than that. :-)
WaterGirl
@Old School: @Rheinhard: I go with BJ peeps. Or Balloon Juice peeps.
Not a fan of “Juicers” though some people use that, too.
Mr. Bemused Senior
@Old School: @Rheinhard: @WaterGirl:
“Jackals” of course. I’m visiting Bemused Senior’s sister but I will take some time to join a Zoom.
Bruce K in ATH-GR
I can only really be with you all in spirit. Thursday is just another working day here in the woodworm-chewed cradle of democracy, and I’ve got evening plans with my family.
Ruckus
@WaterGirl:
That would be Pacific Time Zone. If it’s noon in the Eastern time zone it’s 9am Pacific time. A link us time zone map
I used to work in professional sports and have been to 49 of the states so I’m very used to time zone changes. (Traveled 8 months a year, didn’t travel maybe 2 weekends between March and November)
Good times…….. (This works as reality and snark in this instance)
Joy in FL
I’m interested.
I’m thinking of going to see the movie Wicked on Thursday. I haven’t decided on a time, although I’m leaning toward the 2:30 (eastern time) show. I would probably be back home by 5:30, so a BJ Zoom in the evening would be really nice.
WaterGirl
@Ruckus: I had missed this in CaseyL’s original comment:
I had only seen the reference to “my time” and I didn’t recall where CaseyL lives.
Yes, I know that CA is 2 hours earlier than me on Central time and 3 hours earlier than BJ time. I think Colorado is one hour earlier than me. I have those memorized.
WaterGirl
Okay, we’ll go with an evening zoom (Eastern time) but I’m not sure what time yet, so suggestions are welcome.
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl: John Cole keeps mentioning this in his posts, so maybe let him know.
I think I’ll still be at friends’ in the evening. I hope you all have fun!
NotMax
Saturday would be good. Anytime after 4 o’clock Eastern time (that;’s 11 a.m/ here).
Probably some concussion ball games this weekend to take into account when scheduling (don’t follow sports at all so just surmising).
Ruckus
@WaterGirl:
I figured something like that but as someone who traveled 49 of the states for work for 10 yrs I’ve run into people that never have traveled more than about 100 miles and have no idea about time zones. Some people really do live in a very, very small bit of life. Even with the world wide web and satellite TV they don’t get out very much or very far.
WaterGirl
@zhena gogolia: he never mentions it to me!
Sister Golden Bear
I’m in. Schedule is flexible.
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl: He brings it up in his evening posts.
kalakal
Evening tomorrow would be best ( I’m EST) . should be able to make it
WaterGirl
So for “evening” on Eastern time – are we thinking 6 pm? 7 pm? 8 pm?
Joy in FL
@WaterGirl: early evening is 6. Late evening would be 8. Night is 9 or later. That’s how it feels to my sense of time.
This is not intended to express a time preference for our Zoom; I’m happy with any time after 5:30 eastern until 10 pm or so.
Melancholy Jaques
I would like to be part of the zoom.
Chacal Charles Calthrop
I’m a maybe but can do anything in the east coast time time slot.
Dr Daniel Price
Likely to attend unless the meetup is too late of an evening; unlikely as we subscribe to MST here.
WaterGirl
@Joy in FL: I just searched for evening in this post. There was one “early evening” and the rest were all just “evening”.
If we go with 6, that’s middle of the afternoon on the west coast.
So I guess I’ll go with 8pm Eastern, which will be 5pm in CA, and 7pm in most of the midwest.
Chacal Charles Calthrop
@WaterGirl: Thks! 8pm EST is great
NotMax
@WaterGirl
That’ll be 3 in the afternoon here. Should be properly caffeinated by then.
;)
Joy in FL
@WaterGirl: 8 pm eastern sounds good!
WaterGirl
@Chacal Charles Calthrop: @Sister Golden Bear: @Scamp Dog: @Mr. Bemused Senior: @Melancholy Jaques:
Send me an email so I can send you the zoom link.
WaterGirl
@NotMax: Excellent!
Tenar Arha
Based on past Thanksgivings, I’ll be home by 6-7 PM EST, so I could maybe attend a zoom later in the day (if my food coma isn’t dire). Sure, please keep me in the loop.

@Dr Daniel Price:
Send me an email message if you think you might want to come, so I can send you the link.
WaterGirl
@Kelly: I don’t think my scale has that feature.
WaterGirl
@Bruce K in ATH-GR: Sorry you can’t make it!
WaterGirl
@Joy in FL: Send me an email so I can send you the zoom link. :-)
WaterGirl
@zhena gogolia: I asked Cole about it. He said it was on a need to know basis, and apparently the person who has the zoom account and does the zooms Did. Not. Need. Too. Know.
Oops. :-)
Good thing I was planning to do a zoom on my own, anyway!
pieceofpeace
I hope to attend too, in CA, so most times would work fine.
However, my son is cooking, so this will depend on his timeline, which he hasn’t yet chosen. That might not be until late into the evening, which is all right with me as I can clean up hours later, maybe a day later….
kalakal
8pm EST sounds good!
WaterGirl
@pieceofpeace: Send me an email message so I can reply with a link to the zoom.
brantl
@Rheinhard: we’re called jackals, with some justification.
Ruckus
I’ve got a 1pm (west coast…)(and 50 miles from home) till I know not when so not too early for me. I’d bet I’ll miss it if before 8pm eastern. Hope to make it.
WaterGirl
@Ruckus: Repeating from me at #35
Kayla Rudbek
@WaterGirl: I emailed you this afternoon so I have the details, thanks!
Gloria DryGarden
I’m in, I’ll send you an email. 8 pm est is 6 mountain time.
around 3 am in Athens Greece, noon ish in Australia. I wonder if YY gets up super early over there in China.
cool, thanks for setting this up.
arrieve
I’m late, but I’m in for 8pm. I sent an email for the link.
thanks for doing this, WaterGirl
