      I received a wonderful email from President Biden (I know he didn’t write it personally but I still love it) on White House letterhead in response to mine about pushing for the ERA.  I was able to thank him for everything in that email after using a short script provided at below link last week. It’s a cherished memento now.

      And it’s not like it’s recycled the way we were told it was. They are doing the job others lied about.

      Here’s my hot take: Anyone claiming to be able to discern why Harris lost and “what the Dems need to do!1!” is fighting the wrong battle and wasting time. This election’s conditions were unique–all elections’ conditions are unique, of course, but this one had so many variables that ordering and parsing them isn’t useful, given that the next election is going to present a whole new set of variables. Our time is better spent building and strengthening the things we can build and strengthen to defend the principles and the people we support. That has the added effect of putting us on offense rather than defense: we stand for these people/principles, and this latest horror show by TCFG violates those principles and harms these people.

      And now I’m moving on to planning out the bread-baking and dessert-making for tomorrow. :-

      ETA: good on Joe for continuing the good work rather than sitting back, even though that evil asshole is going to take credit for Joe’s good works.

      @Tazj: I think I am going to have to stop watching or reading news for the next 4 years. It’s not healthy for me, for the level of fury I feel just seeing stories like that, or speculating he could get the Nobel Peace Prize. I can’t take the normalization of his utterances or see his ugly face. Ugh.

      @zhena gogolia: I didn’t expect him to ever go to jail, but I hoped he would slink away into irrelevance. And he has so pissed off the world he won’t get the Nobel, especially if he takes us out of NATO. But just seeing anyone speculate about such things raises my blood pressure SO HIGH.

      One of the main failures of Democrats, and Biden in particular, is we are too damned modest about our accomplishments. Example 1– Trump insisted on having his signature on all the stimulus checks to families under the CARES Act. Biden should have done likewise with the American Rescue Plan. Example 2 – Every single bridge built, road paved under the Infrastructure Act should be branded Brought to You by the Biden Administration. Ditto for every factory built under the Science and Chips Act.
      The general public is clueless as to how government works and who deserves credit for what. Just telling them it’s their federal dollars at work fails to give them the necessary information.

      We need to pay more attention to marketing.

      Years ago, we were told “all politics is local.” So that is where my energy will go for the next few years. We need to focus on nipping these school voucher efforts in the bud, and getting legislatures out of making medical decisions for patients and doctors. Fundamental freedoms are under attack, and we can have a more positive and (hopefully) lasting impact in our own communities.

      @Eunicecycle: These are the responses by Trump supporters or bots on social media to the news stories. They are also responding to tariff articles by saying they would be happy to pay more to stop illegal immigration and fentanyl.

      If these are real people that think that, it’s cultish and foolish on their part.

      I think it’s always a good idea to cut Trump out of your life as much as possible for your mental health. I try to, and was reading my sports social media when I young guy I follow posted things criticizing Harris and her campaign.

      They were blaming her for Trump’s election and it made me very angry.
      Democratic strategists will have to find a way to convince more people to vote for Democrats in future elections. In the meantime, I get to laugh at the stupidity of electing Trump and yes blame voters for their idiocy.

      You’re right. But in order to do effective marketing, Democrats need to stop trying to please so many people with their messaging. You can’t be all things to all people, and it’s folly to even try.

      Identify the brand lovers (aka “the base”), and make them deliriously happy. That’s the only way to be successful.

      Former Clark County Sheriff and longtime Republican operative Jamey Noel could spend upwards of a decade in prison after a judge accepted his guilty pleas to more than a dozen felony charges in court Monday. The plea deal brings a close to Noel’s portion of the case — dubbed the largest in agency history by state police — but other investigations are ongoing.

      Noel was originally charged with 31 felonies for allegedly misusing money from the fire and EMS departments which he oversaw. He pleaded guilty to 27 of those in August.

      Special Judge Larry Medlock, of Washington County, officially accepted Noel’s plea following two hours of victim testimony in open court on Monday. Twenty-one statements were provided, including from members of law enforcement who formerly worked with or under Noel, and by Hoosiers in Clark County and neighboring communities whose lives have been “upended” by the former sheriff’s actions.

      Incredible story. Noel was a reality tv star and Right wing nut. 100% corrupt. He terrorized people in SW Indiana for a decade and the whole GOP state establishment protected him.
      You would have heard of him had he been a Black, urban, liberal political leader. The NYTimes would have a whole team covering him.
      I think every arrest he participated in should be reviewed. Hopefully criminal defense will act.
      Has anything good ever come out of reality tv? It is just an absolute disaster – the worst of the country. The Duggars had a 10 year run on reality tv- they’re fundie Christian pedophiles and rapists. It’s like absolute scumbags.

      I don’t know the details so maybe my ire is misplaced, but as a Jew I say, Fuck you Israel, you could have done that last month for the sake of Harris’ electoral chances.

      “The same thing is going to follow Harris for the rest of her career. She cannot be trusted with the money, and the donors are going to be, like, ‘Where is this money?’”
      In July, Morgan told Cuomo that he’s a “Joe Biden-Democrat,” that he now sees himself as an independent, and that he wouldn’t raise any money for the Harris campaign.

      @Ohio Mom: The ceasefire went into effect at 4am this morning and is to be implemented over 60 days. The Lebanese Army will deploy south from the Litani River to the border as Hezbollah withdraws north of the Litani and the IDF pulls back across the border. This basically fulfills Security Council Resolution 2601, which was part of the settlement of the 2006 Israeli/Hezbollah war but never enforced.

      It appears that the fighting has ended, hopefully in the near and the long term. The lead story on CBS radio’s 9am news was that southbound traffic is bumper to bumper in Southern Lebanon as Lebanon’s civilians are finally going home. So it’s a good story for them even though it’s frustrating in ways for us.

      Now that Israel has defanged Hezbollah they can focus all their US supplied military might to finish the genocide and new Nakba of the Palestinians.

      Maybe, based on Chicago voters low turnout. City still went strongly for Harris, though less than Clinton or Biden, or I think Pritzker in his two elections. In the past, low turnout like that risked flipping Illinois to the GOP, but the Chicago suburbs have become at least purple, if not blue.

      @tam1MI: IInflation was a definite headwind and mocking it does no damned good. It hit a lot of households hard. If I had been in charge of White House communication, as soon as the American Rescue plan passed, I would have noted that whenever the economy endured a shock like COVID inflation was coming.

      @prostratedragon: from CNN: Another way to look at Trump’s narrow edge in the popular vote is that he got the vote of about a third of the citizen voting-age population. A slightly smaller portion backed Harris.

      Another third DID NOT VOTE AT ALL.
