The one thing that gives me solace on this Thanksgiving is that a bunch of MAGAts are learning that the owning the libs vs family estrangement tradeoff might not have been worth it.
I’m off to knit a cape of bacon to place over a turkey. This will be a first for me, so tots and pears are welcome.

counterpoint: eat shit, fascist.
Steve LaBonne
One of the biggest things I’m grateful for is not having any Trumper fascists in my family. (If there had been any they would long since have been dead to me.) I love that this motherfucker understands exactly why his daughters won’t speak to him but doesn’t give a fuck about the harm they and other women will suffer.
AM in NC
Fuck Around and Find Out, fascist assholes.
And I bet, if asked, this douchecanoe would say he’d do anything to protect his daughters. Including, apparently, voting for a serial sexual predator to head the Executive branch, in charge of enforcing laws. Good for the daughters letting dad know exactly what they think of him and how his actions affect their lives.
Unabogie
I love how he says he “let them vote how they wish”
My dude, you don’t get a say. And they are voting twice, here. Once, against Trump. And a second time, against their bigot father who fucked them over and can’t seem to admit it.
Baud
Fuck LBJ!
Melancholy Jaques
This guy’s thinking that the fact that he voted for Trump doesn’t reveal who he really is.

MERELY????????????

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I missed the early thread because I was at Jazzercize. I baked the German chocolate cake, when it cools I’ll frost it. We had blueberry pancake on a stick and fruit for breakfast. Now I’m doing the crossword and drinking my second cup of coffee. We’re going to my niece’s house for dinner at 4. Hopefully there will be no politics discussion because they’re not political. It’s the first Thanksgiving since my oldest niece’s husband died, so that’ll be tough for us
As for that dude’s tweet, it’s funny to me that he thinks they were “misled by propaganda “. Dude, you were outright lied to! That he calls their political beliefs a mental illness should be a clue for hom to why they’re avoiding him, but he’ll never get it.
WaterGirl
Wow, I had no idea. Is it kind of the lattice top for a pie, only with uncooked bacon?
Bex
@Unabogie: 100%.
cmorenc
@Steve LaBonne:
p.a.
And he uses as his icon US Grant? Should be hacked to display Nathan Bedford Forrest.
zhena gogolia
@Baud: I am responding with the picture of a person’s face. That person is laughing so hard that tears are splashing from their eyes on both sides.
WaterGirl
@Unabogie: Yes!
When I read that up top, my brain shrieked
LET THEM???
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl: His “one” vote. Get it? He only had one vote, so it doesn’t matter that it added up with millions of other votes to deprive his daughters of their rights.
Baud
@zhena gogolia:
Fingers curled, thumb pointing toward the sky.
zhena gogolia
@Soprano2: And it should be spelled “misled.”
Soprano2
@zhena gogolia: Thanks, I fixed it. Didn’t notice that.
WaterGirl
.
Soprano2
@WaterGirl: That does stand out, doesn’t it? I bet he’s a real peach. 🤣
Layer8Problem
@zhena gogolia: And pronounced “my-sld”.
MagdaInBlack
@zhena gogolia: I am responding to your comment with the very same face.
Butch
@WaterGirl: You beat me to it.
Peke Daddy
More victimization mewling. You voted to take your daughters’s rights away and you’re the one hurt?
Percysowner
Poor baby, he’s now at the Find Out stage. Couldn’t happen to a nice guy, or so it seems by this post.
scav
“I mean, those daughters should be rushing to my house, cooking a hella lotta shit and thanking me for allowing them to express their worthless little opinions while honoring mine that their lives are worth less than a pulsating blastocyst! Where’s my candied yam offspring?”
trollhattan
FOTY winner, right there. He’s “better than Trump” only because he didn’t manage to describe any of them as hot.
Layer8Problem
@Unabogie: “I could have drug them EACH into the voting booth and said ‘You’ll vote this way missy, and LIKE IT!’ But I didn’t, because I’m a loving indulgent parent. And this is the thanks I get.”
WaterGirl
@zhena gogolia: Maddening.
Nukular Biskits
Ms. Biskits is doing all the cooking and told me to stay the hell out of the kitchen so I cut the grass and cleaned the gutters.
Right now, just chilling a bit while heating the water for the (eventual) iced tea (the only Thanksgiving Day task I was given).
Nukular Biskits
@Baud:
Corrected. You’re welcome!
Steve LaBonne
@Percysowner: What these defective shitheads see as mental illness is caring about other people. Because it’s a concept they absolutely can’t fathom.
Soprano2
It’s so strange that my husband isn’t cooking the turkey. He did it for years until the past two. It was assumed he’d do it. He did a turducken one year, most of the family hated it! He thought it was a cool idea.
Chat Noir
Happy Thanksgiving, all! No traditional dinner for us this year. We’re having baked spaghetti (with sauce I made yesterday so it could have a day to get even better), salad, Prosecco, and key lime pie. The pie is Joe’s Stone Crab’s recipe from their restaurant in Miami Beach and it is awesome. (they charge $13.95 per slice and I made the whole pie for a WAY less than that)
scav
And then, sit down to their seasonal viewing of A Christmas Carol and fail to recognize themselves in the “Are there no workhouses? . . . surplus population.” speech. And, honestly, even Scrooge was seemingly willing to pay his taxes to fund the poorhouses, so he might be a step up from the current crop.
Jeffg166
What has it been, twenty- five years of Fox bashing liberals along with the various incarnations of the GQP? Turn it around and the pearl clutching goes off the richter scale.
ArchTeryx
@scav: A lot of them consider the early Scrooge the hero and what was done to him communist propaganda. The Victorians didn’t much like having their bullshit held up to a light, either.
Chief Oshkosh
It appears that he’s coming to grips with the understanding that he’s actually a powerless wanker. He’s posting to get affirmation from the other powerless wankers that they’re not actually powerless wankers.
So, he’s made a first step – he realizes that he’s no longer calling the shots. Will he further self-actualize in time to beat the grim reaper?
Eight-ball says…Outlook not so good.
scav
@ArchTeryx: I don’t think the current crop pass the mirror test for self-recognition The Victorians might have — they still clung to some wisps of respect for logic, education and engineering.
Gretchen
Van Buren
His message is perfectly aligned with Trump’s Thanksgiving screed.
zhena gogolia
@Soprano2: It’s his mistake, not yours!
p.a.
@scav: Dying friendless and alone as Scrooge was warned of isn’t enough of a punishment for what they’re doing to the US (and the idea of the US), but it’s a start. Uhhh ending…
zhena gogolia
@Layer8Problem: Absolutely!
Ben Cisco
@Baud: Darmok, his thumb raised upward. 👍🏾
Soprano2
@zhena gogolia: I corrected it anyway. 😀
pluky
What he doesn’t seem to realize is that his vote was almost certainly not a single factor in his ostracism. More likely, it was the last straw on a pile of acts and statements that put him beyond the pale.
Layer8Problem
@pluky: ”Why am I in this nursing home and why is no one visiting me?”
Sure Lurkalot
@Soprano2:
Bad enough that Terrible Father is unconcerned about the effect Dobbs could have on his own children but he also apparently believes that the news stories about women dying having been refused care are lies.
What a scumbag. I hope his daughters live their very best lives far away from him forever.
Shakti
If I ran the media and had to write a dumb “we get together around Thanksgiving because we’re a family and we don’t talk
about politicsBruno”* and “how to do this family dinner” every yearI’d do parallels with follow-ups:
*Disney films really anvil adults over their heads with the therapy they refuse to get.
Eunicecycle
@Unabogie: yeah really, he “let” them??? JFC, they “get” to vote because they are citizens of this country! They don’t need his permission.
munira
I”m really lucky – no trumpies in my family and none for friends. My sympathies to those who have to either endure or stay away.
gene108
I am totally curious about what this father thinks is the propaganda that misled his daughters. I really would like a peak into what information Trump supporters are seeing and how they are processing.

@Jeffg166:
Turn it around and the pearl clutching goes off the richter scale.
Children actually can, and often do grow up. And more often than many might imagine they do not grow up in the manner that they were taught at home. Some parents refuse to see that their children actually have minds and rights and can often have differing life views. I’ve known kids that left home at the first opportunity because of this. It might be possible I’m one of them.

Be warned: the bacon isn’t likely to be the bacon of your dreams. Barding – covering turkey with fatty meats – is an old fashioned technique to avoid needing to baste, and bacon works well, but, woven bacon might be too think to cook properly, assuming you’re using properly sliced bacon.
If you’re using bacon-flavored meat product, shaved from cured pork belly in slices so thin, it belongs on a fast food burger that claims it comes “with bacon”, but is actually the result of an atomic process where real bacon molecules (there are TOO bacon molecules!) are split at the atomic level (molecules can split at the atomic level, we usually just don’t embarrass the splitting atoms by mentioning they were previously molecular), causing it to become a non-bacon isotope of some other food.
Um. Some people call “properly sliced bacon” thick sliced, and some call the following paragraph’s description of a meat product “bacon”, but I disagree with them.

I’ve never understood why parents think their kids owe them anything. If anything, it’s the other way around.
If he’s upset that they don’t want to spend time with him, maybe he should look inward?
rationalman
BUT the MAGAts are NOT learning what you think.
They believe it is worth it, even estrangement.
In their mind they are the victim of the mean libs.
MAGAts believe civil rights & real morality should be by popular vote when they are the deciders.
Citizen Alan
@scav: Conservatives watch A Christmas Carol and see it as a nightmarish horror story, in which a successful man of business is terrorized by four evil spirits into becoming a Socialist.
NobodySpecial
@rationalman: Yep, everyone hopes these folks have a come to Jesus moment, but in reality they’ll just get more and more bitter, twisted, and ingrown with hatred, and they will spread it and never change.
TBone
@SomeRandomGuy: there is a special type of “net” that is used:
https://www.thespruceeats.com/what-is-caul-fat-995601
But not for turkey, to my knowledge.
Ryan
You want your daughters back? You might try some introspection and ask why’d they disown you.
Kayla Rudbek
@Ryan: “the missing missing reasons” according to issendai and the Reddit raised by narcissists forum
SomeRandomGuy
@TBone: That sounds like a specific type of barding – if that’s what they’d call it. Barding is not something that’s common today, because the turkey on the table isn’t wild (which saves some decent bourbon from accidental shootings), it’s farmed, so there’s lots of fat in it – relative to a wild bird, so, no complaining about the dry breast meat to *me*, talk to your maker!
Um. If you don’t have a person addicted to the whole “maker/builder” craze… never mind, bad bun.
Here’s a link to Spruce Eats which defines it, and has a *great* picture of spit-over-fire meat barded, and discusses larding.

@WaterGirl: Thanks for all the hard work and please please please can we get a photo of the bacon cape? I’ve been a server for the last couple of years and when I offer bacon as an option, I usually say, “Bacon makes everything better… including bacon!”
