If you haven’t already, please send me an email message if you want to be part of the Balloon Juice zoom tonight – and I’ll reply with the zoom link.
I’m sure this will be like the calendar threads, almost no comments but lots of email messages will arrive, so I’ll know that someone read it. :-)

I’m commenting so there will be one comment (smiling face emoji). I can’t do a zoom meeting, but I’m glad everyone will have the opportunity (winking and smiling emoji).
Ohio Mom
Yeah, I’ll be entertaining Ohio Dad’s extended family. Right now, they are waiting patiently for the turkey to finish
Which it would have been if Ohio Dad hadn’t set the oven at 320 degrees.
Eventually I noticed and turned the temperature up.
Joy in FL
I read the post.
See you tonight on Zoom : )
WaterGirl
@Ohio Mom: The turkey will just be that much more tender. She said hopefully.
Melancholy Jaques
Is that email your nym at balloon-juice dot com?
WaterGirl
@Melancholy Jaques: Yes!
Nukular Biskits
Emailed ya.
And Cole is a dick. LOL!
SomeRandomGuy
@WaterGirl: Do it long enough and you’ll get a gelatinous goo, which is emphatically tender, but the texture has received complaints. Not from the guests, who gave up and had a nice Christmas dinner instead.
WaterGirl
@SomeRandomGuy: That sounds disgusting! ugh.
Baud
I feel like Tony Jay hasn’t posted in a long time.
Timill
@Baud: Not since our election, I think.
Sure Lurkalot
I’ve noticed Tony J’s absence too. I hope he’s well.
I haven’t made a turkey in decades but still remember the tricky timing making sure all the sides and gravy were warmed up and the turkey rested.
For way many years, we went to friends’ house on Friday…huge Irish catholic family and friends, a crowd of 50 or more…they made 5 or 6 turkeys, a lot of the trimmings with others making dishes and amazing pies. After some 40 years, they gave it up…exhausted. I was happy to hear this year they have family feasts to attend today and tomorrow, they deserve it!
WaterGirl
@Baud:
I dropped Tony Jay a note saying I hope he hasn’t bailed on us because the US electorate is, well, insert your own descriptor here.
zhena gogolia
@Timill: Yes, I don’t recall seeing him since the election. Sad.
Mr. Bemused Senior
I’m sure he wouldn’t do that [cockeyed optimist that I am.]
Ben Cisco
Hoping I can take part, so I sent an email.

I’ll try to join the Zoom. Oddly we don’t do Thanksgiving down here but by God we do Black Friday sales in a big way. It’s already Friday morning here. The Aussies have adopted Halloween in the last 15 years ago but some folks here resent the American cultural invasion. I’ve made Thanksgiving dinner here in the past and introduced the Aussies to pumpkin pie. Pumpkin here is usually a vegetable roasted with potatoes. Turkey is very expensive and has to be ordered in advance.

@Pete Downunder:
Mmmmmmm, even though I’m more of a pecan potato.
Montanareddog
@zhena gogolia: After LFC’s gangbusters start to the 24-25 season (top of the Premiership by 8 points; top of the Champions League with 100% record; 17 matches in all competitions, 15 wins, one draw, one loss; defeated their nemesis Real Madrid yesterday), he is probably too hungover to comment.
SomeRandomGuy
@WaterGirl: Well, if you don’t *want* to drive your guests away, you could alter the recipe, greatly reducing the cooking time. But, yeah, tender is as tender mush.
JoyceH
I was a maybe on the Zoom but think I’ll pass. So far COVID has just been mild cold symptoms and lots of naps but right now I’m feeling another nap coming on.
Kayla Rudbek
I missed everyone as we were just leaving my mother in law’s house around that time. Catch you all next time, maybe.
Ruckus
Just got home from my thanks dinner at a friend of friends over 50 miles away. I not really sure who was who but it was a really interesting dinner. Now the other side of that is that my immediate family has all left me holding the family bag. Last family member other than me passed early this year, all the aunts uncles are gone and a younger cousin passed as well and the closest remaining cousin is about 150 miles away. I am the oldest person in the extended family. I was youngest in my family. Life goes on, had an interesting thanks dinner, had a good time with the folks I met so all is well in the world. Had hoped to be on the zoom but timing just didn’t work out today, Next time!
