comrade scott’s agenda of rage has proposed a Denver meetup on Jan 3.

Denver BJ Meetup Proposal
Date: 3 Jan 2025 (Friday)
Time: 5-8pm
Where: My House

Why “My House”? I’m centrally located, just 5 blocks west of City Park right on the boundary of the Whittier and City Park West neighborhoods. Plenty of free parking.

We like to host. Two-plus decades of running a B&B beats that into you.

We’ll also provide food and beverages (Free Booze is a tried and true “pull”, just see “One Froggy Evening”).

Doing it this way is far better than trying to get people to a place, which is Denver so will be moronically loud and expensive. Think of it as a BJ dinner party except far more casual. Conversations can be had and heard plus I’ll show you what was buried in the crawl space in the house. And anybody remotely interested in historic renovation/restoration, our place is a case study.

Doing it on a Friday eliminates weekend conflicts and obvious weeknight hassles everybody would have across the metro region.

    My wife was born and raised in the neighborhood now referred to as Hale.  Back then, most of those neighborhoods didn’t have names.

    Date would only change by a week so I doubt we’d catch you.

    Now, we can always do a smaller grab-a-coffee thing at some point.

    @comrade scotts agenda of rage: Actually the 3rd is the 2nd day of driving – we leave Jan 2. If it’s a week later, I’d still be there. A week later and I’ll be back.

    I’ll keep an eye on this post in case it does change. Have a wonderful meetup if the date holds.

    I’m on Green Mountain, but I have jury duty in Lakewood that day.

    And I’m also a committed introvert.  After a day of jury duty I’m going to need to go straight home and curl up in a ball on the floor.  Not sure socializing will be an option.

    I live 500 miles away in Lincoln NE, but I am tempted to try to make it.  So that makes me a maybe as of today.

    I’ll mention that anyone between Denver and Chicago could make it an easy train trip, which the last time I did it  put you in Denver at 7AM.

    @SpaceUnit: maybe they’ll dismiss you early in the day, or kick you off a panel, or not need you, when you call in the night before. It’s often been a day to read a book or process paper work while waiting around.

    @zhena gogolia: the trick to downtown is to understand with the one ways, that around the block is several blocks. The other trick is to know before you go, how to get out of there, which street takes you east, which goes west, and how to connect to north or south directions. You need to in with written, explicit directions of how to get out of there.
    my first time downtown, I picked a direction and drove for half an hour until I recognized a street name. I do not recommend this.

    if you know about 17th, 18th, and 15th, maybe 20th, and how to get onto Speer blvd, you can succeed.

    (For locals only: Google maps isn’t even accurate anymore, so recently I had to call a friend and try a bunch of routes, but that was for a specific neighborhood up north on downing turning to Washington)
