Looks like the House Ethics Committee report on Matt Gaetz will be released.  Let’s hear from America’s biggest man baby, the subject of said report:

[some whining redacted] House Ethics will reportedly post a report online that I have no opportunity to debate or rebut as a former member of the body.

In my single days, I often sent funds to women I dated – even some I never dated but who asked. I dated several of these women for years. I NEVER had sexual contact with someone under 18. Any claim that I have would be destroyed in court – which is why no such claim was ever made in court.

My 30’s were an era of working very hard – and playing hard too. [some bullshit redacted]

I was expecting “she sure didn’t look 17” but I guess the tactic of never admitting anything is the hill he’s going to die on.

Since we’re on the subject of alleged and convicted molesters who don’t live in the basement of a pizza restaurant, let’s check in with the Diocese of New Orleans, where a 93-year-old priest was sentenced to life in prison for raping a 16 year-old boy in 1975.  The priest decided not to apologize to his victims after his guilty plea.  His attorney explained that “his client had expressed remorse for his actions through his guilty plea.”  I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, the Catholic Church is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Republican Party.

Moving to Texas, here’s a long Washington Post story about a small-town police chief who worked at 8 Texas police departments in 11 years and was repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct.

A Post investigation identified 47 heads of law enforcement agencies who were charged with crimes involving child sexual abuse from 2005 through 2022. Three-quarters of them worked in departments with less than 10 cops.

I would also wager a fair amount that every cop in these little Texas towns voted for Trump and every other Republican on the ballot.

None of them drag queens, not a single one.

    Just a note about the WaPo link.  I cancelled my subscription, but since it’s prepaid until sometime next year, I included a gift link to the story, which is more-or-less a good one.

    But I will say this about it:  the headline and teasers annoy me because they say this guy was the “perfect” predator.  No he wasn’t.  He was like the 93-year-old priest and almost every other molester.  He took advantage of weak institutions to rape children.  People fucking knew and they did nothing.

    I think you have it wrong. The Republican Party is a whole subsidiary of Catholic Church. With six Supreme Court justices and a catholic vice president just a heartbeat away from being president. They seem well positioned.

    Personally I believe that it has been for my entire life – 3/4 of a century. I was sent to an all boys catholic high school for freshman year. I refused to go back. It was next to a seminary, the vast majority of the school staff was a priest or brother (studying for the priesthood) One of the fathers was an actual human being, who actually respected the students – rather than looking at them as someone to continuing to put money in the money dish handed around. Some of them were – or should have been, on the list of humans to be shot to the moon, strapped to the outside of the rocket. You might notice that I wasn’t amused.

    I’d say today is a far better time than when I was a child. Sure I, and many, many others lived through one of the periods of history where the culture had to be and was changed. I believe we are going through that now. And there exists a too large percentage of humans that want to go backasswards with our culture to that time frame. Maybe not quite for the same concept of living but for the concept that a lot of money makes people smart. Education AND cognition of humanity and reality is what makes people smart about living/life, NOT power, money and hate of anyone in any way different.

    @@mistermix.bsky.social: A number of years ago I read about “purity balls” by some of the women who attended; they said in some families the father took on the role of “father/husband” over daughters and it included having sex and some teen pregnancies.
    If you watch one of the balls that has been broadcast you get this creepy feeling that fathers and daughters are getting “married” no matter how they dress it up as being pure.

    There was a lot more space for these people when pretty much the entire Catholic population of the United States was persona non grata among the better classes.  (Although even there the church was often still reactionary as fuck).

    Regarding the Texas police chief who worked in 8 different departments in 11 years.  That is a huge red flag; that boy ain’t right.

    I had a principal ask me to help him go through applications for a science teacher (the new person would be working with me).  As I looked at them, I noticed one guy had been teaching for 10 or 11 years, which is good, but he changed schools every year which is not so good.   That application was dropped into the trash can.  I told my boss that guy was bad news, and the boss agreed.

    I guess Texas has a hard time finding applicants for their police departments.

    I notice with Hegseth, his defenders want to focus on the sexual misconduct but have nothing to say  about how he ran his organizations into the ground financially and how one set of big donors hired forensic accountants to see where the money was going. They have no offered defense to that. Or why a supposedly innocent man would pay to ensure silence of,  in their world view,  lying liars who lie about things women are known to lie about. I’d want to know out of whose pocket this money for the NDA came out of.   Or why he’s actually qualified for this cabinet position.
