    I just got a call from India, my dad has had a heart attack. He is in the hospital and they are going to do an angiogram tomorrow to find the extent of the blockage. Please keep him your thoughts.

    Yesterday morning a tiny fuse blew in the motherboard controlling our boiler, so no house heat. New boiler installed last September in order to give us reliable heat this winter. Oops. Should have limped along with the old one. Called the contractor and they are still waiting for the replacement fuse to be delivered by Amazon. Huh. Found one at our local Ace hardware but “no, it’s a specialty fuse so we have to wait.”  But they sent their guy to Autozone and he coulsn’t find one. I bet when the fuses finally arrive they will be the same ( brand and everything) as the ones I bought at Ace.

    The contractor did drop off a couple of very nice little space heaters, so we are keeping the temperature stable, although colder than usual.

    The cats are pissed. Their basement is usually 70° and right now it is only 62° with an obnoxious (to them) space heater.

    We turned on the Christmas tree upstairs and that blew a circuit, taking out everything in the living room and also a room in the basement. So now it’s like Green Acres, keeping watch on what we can plug in when the space heater is running. Query: why does our new boiler keep blowing fuses?

    The good part is that the new cats are stomping around upstairs meowing that they have issues. So they feel comfortable enough to speak up.

    We installed a  new boiler[the old one was due to be replaced], but our primary heat is mini-split heat pumps.  So the boiler only turns on very rarely. so far all good.

    I was too late to Kroger to get a standing rib roast so we’re having standing strip steak. I had them cut it two inches thick and it’s standing on edge, fat side up, ready for the broiler.

    @schrodingers_cat: when my friend had a heart attack, they wheeled him into the cath lab first thing the next morning. 3 stents , 95% blocked, and a second cath lab the next day for the other artery, and a few days later he went home. Two years later, he’s walking his land, weeding the brush, calling me to identify flowers, living his best life.
    here’s hoping your dad has a similar good recovery.

    @comrade scotts agenda of rage: it’s still there. Makes the whole thing much more palatable. I love the lights, and sparkle. It’s dark out, we need some kind of celebration of light.

    The local pagans go to Red rocks, drum up the sun. I am happy to report they succeeded, and the year’s wheel will turn. It was a good feeling, when I used to go. Incredible view of the sunrise.

    I do deface the carols with new words, though.

    @sab: There’s an issue there somewhere. Most have a schematic pasted to them somewhere, and you can disconnect some stuff, to try to isolate what’s blowing the fuses.

    Merry Christmas to all and may your new year be memorable for all the right reasons! Calendar arrived yesterday and the critters are beautiful to see! We’re at four cats and two kittens here due to being suckers for a stray mom cat in need. Lots of kitten hijinks to smile at!
