Every year Bergdorf Goodman transforms one of its upper floors into a Christmas extravaganza of decorations, pretend gingerbread houses, and mini Santas. The prices are, of course, quite silly*, but if you just want to browse and overdose on holiday stuff, Bergdorf Goodman is the place for you.
*$3,195 for a gingerbread house, >$300 for a tree ornament
(sorry, didn’t have time to upload any clips so just pictures)

That took a lot of time! Love the peacocks. Thanks!

Housing costs really are insane.

@Baud:
The rent is too damn high.

The best thing about not decorating for Christmas is I don’t have to take it down and put it away.
Fair Economist
@Jeffg166: My father would go on a rampage the 26th to put away all the Christmas decorations – of which we had a lot, due to my mother. It took the whole day.
Me, I’m with you. Why put up something you’re just going to take back down?
J.
A picture is worth a thousand dollars. I will have to check out the displays next Christmastime, when we are back up north.

Wow, I have never seen anything like it. I never knew a gingerbread house could be ostentatious. Thanks for sharing!
SkyBluePink
What fun to see such spectacle!
Enjoyed the pics!

We haven’t decorated for over 25 years due to mice getting into the decorations and ruining them all. I tossed the lot and never replaced them.

I have heard of Christmas trees on roller stands and people who dedicated a specific closet for the tree. They simply rolled it away each year. Not sure what I think of that since hanging the decorations is part of the family fun….but the lights were always tedious. I have been to quite a few estate sales of all income levels where one spare bedroom had become the holiday decoration storage room with significant decorations for all holidays, halloween and Easter as well as Christmas. Not as many thanksgiving for some reason. Lots of Forth of July too. Some people really like house dress up? It’s like a costume for the house. Some do entertaining too, but most just have the house decorations.

@Gvg: I just told my husband about the tree closet, and he knew about those! Saw them as a floor installer, it’s a rich person thing. He said most of those folks had 3 or 4 trees.
I shudder to think of decorating 3 or 4 trees, but rich people probably hire someone to do that.

Thank you all!

Good morning, All. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
I don’t know if Kay is hanging around these parts today, but I saw this post on the wellness industry, which Kay has been saying is larger than Big Pharma. She’s right. According to the post, the wellness industry is a $5.6 trillion industry, whereas pharmceuticals are $1.48 trillion. And the wellness industry doesn’t have to pay for R&D or go through the complex FDA approval process.

Wow, lotta glitz and glitter there. Now that’s a New York Christmas display! :)

Love their window displays, best in NYC, but have never been inside. I need to fix that next year!!

@Gvg: i have a friend who lives alone, and for many years, after Christmas, he would just remove all the breakable ornaments and then physically pick up the entire tree (artificial, of course) and put it in a corner of his garage until the next christmas season.
