The Vought nomination was a 53-47 affair, and with Fetterman being a no on RFK the lesser and Asset Gabbard, I think he’s finally come to his senses.
Like every other Senator, he looks in the mirror and sees a future President, but I don’t think it’s going to happen for him or anyone else who voted for some Trump nominees. The yea votes on Trump nominees are like the votes for the Iraq War on steroids. They are disqualifying for a large swath of the Democratic base.
That all said, the main point of this post isn’t to talk about the 2028 election, but rather to say that I think the Senate-Brain and splitter Dems have caught up with the base, after a jillion phone calls, a bunch of dunking on social media, and a government takeover by King Musk. They’ve realized that normal rules no longer apply. King Musk wants to dismantle our democracy. We need to fight him, and Trump, with everything we have.
Pritzker gets it, btw. Ridicule, oppose, inform, fight:

Just now, those of us who went to Bennett and Hick’s offices on Tuesday learned that basically everything we “asked” of Hick, he’s gonna do:
https://senatorhickenlooper.substack.com/p/its-time-to-use-every-tool-at-our?r=tdrer&utm_medium=ios&triedRedirect=true
Okay, Hick caveats the statement “that poses a genuine threat” but hey, this is a pretty great reaction from somebody like Hick.
And yes, I called his office here in Denver to thank the staff for meeting us and for him putting out that statement.

I empathize.

I have been wondering why the Congressional GOPers have been so supine about T—-p and M—k stripping away their spending power.
Then it occurred to me: this is like the Catfood Commission, but with actual teeth. All of their least favorite programs will be thrown in the trash bin, but in a way that they don’t have to take responsibility. From their point of view, it’s win-win!

That’s me. I’ve been a registered Democrat since my 18th birthday. I still carry a grudge against the Dems who voted for the Iraq War (type: Dems who get power and then act like assholes with it).
But, as someone who called Fetterman’s office three times last week…. I’ll lay off criticizing him a bit for a while.
PsiFighter37
@suzanne: I won’t. He’s a self-serving prick who has earned himself a serious primary challenge in 2028.
What really struck me was the pictures of the USAID office letters coming off. Like…it is not even set in stone that the agency can go away, and they are already physically removing evidence of its existence. Just awful.

I did not think it was possible, but my hatred of Musk exceeds hatred of Trump by at least a factor of 10. My friend has already planned a Elon is dead party for the day this guy dies (hopefully in a public square outside a Tesla dealership)

That’s dumb. The entire party is going to get grabbed. It’s not something they can easily gaslight especially after 40 years of messaging about who democrats are.

Apparently even Ro Khanna has gotten the no more musk memo, according to a friend who lives in his district, and visited his office yesterday.

Trump claims he has ‘fired’ the board chair of the Kennedy Center (said chair is also I guess the head of a $450 billion dollar investment fund, so being extremely rich isn’t an automatic hedge against Trump’s insane/inane maneuvers). Guess who the new chair will be? Yep. DJT.
The NYT helpfully says “Trump’s authority to make the changes was not clear”. Alrighty then. Maybe do some digging around? Yes, I said it. I expect NYT journos to do work.

Reached out to the drum shop that I bought my kit from back in the early 90’s to see about a possible discount if I buy another kit from him. And the guy was like “yeah, sorry but my margins are too low.” This really pissed me off to an irrational level. I’ve been probably one of only a handful of drummers on the West Coast using his drums and always enjoyed promoting his business anytime someone asked “what kind of kit is that?” at a gig. It was a kit custom-made for me, it’s the kit I recorded every band I’ve been in and served as the kit on some of my biggest gigs. It is the instrument I have owned/played longer than any other (by far!). My therapist assured me that I had every right to feel pissed.
Oh well, fuck him. I’m gonna spend my $3-5K at Sweetwater instead because their owner has been super cool and said “of course” he’d offer a discount on account of the fire. Now I just gotta get past my hesitation about making a big purchase and pull the trigger on the Sonor kit that I really love.
RaflW
@NotMax: This ranks fairly low on my list of ways that the Trump Admin and Republicans in general are working as hard as they can to hand China — and to some extent India — every global advantage they can. We’ll just become moribund in terms of making products anyone wants outside our backwater borders. Dumb!

Talking about any future election is premature.
I’m not sure the United States will be able to have a free and fair election in two years, let alone four, after they’re done and the party with power seems okay with betraying the Constitution and the law.

Tragically ironic that this administration intends (pretends) it will ‘make America christian again’; yet is relishing its cruelty and planning to continue with the most uncharitable acts toward everyone it considers lesser.
I actually think this should be called out by Dems. There’s a divide between christians like that bishop who spoke of merciful treatment of the needy vs christian nationalists who want to use the state for punishment. It could be exploited.
Matt McIrvin
@New Deal democrat: Congress mostly can’t legislate because years ago, the Republicans in the Senate turned the filibuster rule into a de facto supermajority requirement. And even in the House, it’s difficult for either party to pass anything. They couldn’t eliminate all these programs they hate with legislation.
But now, they effectively do have power: they can rip up all these programs by just letting Trump and Musk destroy the implementation of them and doing nothing to stop them. They can’t act but they can prevent action. That’s power.
Old Man Shadow
@comrade scotts agenda of rage: Depends on how and when the Regime falls. If it ends in blood, he’ll be one of the first lined up against the wall.

@rk: It is kind of crazy how Elon torched the massive amount of goodwill he had with left-leaning folks over the past several years. Tesla registrations are going to plunge, and the felon’s base is too poor / lives in areas where there are no chargers to replace demand. Tesla is now also considered a company that has terrible customer service. X/Twitter is a cesspool that will never attract back the big corporations. SpaceX is the only venture that has a sustainable future, mainly because NASA decided to privatize much of the space program (as well as the United Launch Alliance being terrible – I blame Boeing). But nobody gives a shit about going to Mars or riding a Tesla in space.
At some point, someone is going to realize that the only thing that Elon Musk has is money, and that money doesn’t make him inevitable or invinceable.

Dear neighbor,
This past week, my office has received many calls from constituents outraged about unconstitutional and illegal actions from the Trump Administration. Leader Hakeem Jeffries has laid out a ten-point plan for how House Democrats will fight back against this insanity. The three tenets of our strategy are 1) Legislation, 2) Litigation, and 3) Mobilization.
Just yesterday, I joined my Democratic colleagues to support the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, which is designed to stop Elon Musk and his minions from accessing the American people’s Social Security numbers, bank account information, and essential benefits like Medicare.
On Tuesday, I will be hosting a telephone town hall to talk to my constituents about what has been happening in Washington and what we are doing about it. If you’re interested in joining, visit my website to sign up.

There will be. Check out what happened last time around when this president assaulted us. His administration demanded voter information from every state’s Secretary of State. No Secretary of State gave him anything. Alabama’s told this andministration off. It was a reminder that we have a federal system.
Some states elections will, no doubt, steal the election for the GOP grift-a-thon with gerrymandering and every other voter suppression measure. The GOP kneelers may even pass national voter suppression laws. Even if all of this happens, we can still win the midterms.
Never forget that this administration is working to destroy everything that makes this country thrive. People will notice that. The GOP owns this mess, too. Don’t you forget it.
