a pleasure to shovel

It is snowing in Chicago-land and I am delighted to be able to say that I do not care. I have everything I need and I’ve sealed the vault for the weekend.

Woke up to 3″ of nice snow here in the western Oregon Cascade foothills. Mostly melted during the day

My delightful Valentine’s Day was watching the Iggles Victory Parade up Broad and the Parkway to the Art Museum, because when you’re recovering from a miserable head cold being a couch potato is about the limit. I smiled, because our son-in-law is a lifelong Philly resident/Eagles fan. He sent a picture from his view of the parade on South Broad.
MrsRev and I split a large veggie with meatballs pizza from the neighborhood joint. We could only eat half, so tomorrow night’s dinner is set.

I’ve added The Independent to my media list.

I made a yummy dinner for the BF and me – roasted salmon, tiny yellow potatoes, also roasted to that starting-to-brown and creamy-inside perfection, and sauteed zuchini.
All that after narrowly avoiding sliding our subie down a very icy hill in our mountain neighborhood this afternoon! I can claim some contributory negligence* to getting into that mess, but I also thoughtfully aimed the sliding car into a snowbank to avoid hitting two other cars that hit each other, bowling ball / bowling pin style.
And after carrying “auto socks” in the back for 10 winters, finally had a use for them. Put em on the front wheels — way easier than chains — and backed up the hill to the amazement of the town public works guy who clearly thought I was not too bright to have gotten myself where I’d been!
Quite a day.
*The town knows this hill is a likely disaster and used to close a gate when it was bad. Dunno why the gate is gone, nor why well into an obvious snowstorm they hadn’t put down any grit. Ah, well. We were just innocently tryna go to the local ski hill. Like one does in CO in a winter storm warning. :)

@MagdaInBlack: I can say the very same about the afternoon and evening here in small-town Iowa: pretty powdery snow, everything we need here in the house, and no reason or need to go outside. The very definition of cozy for the next few hours.

@RevRick
Still recovering from a scene in some odd program recently viewed in which a young man, looking to impress a girl he wanted to ask out, posed as a delivery guy bringing her favorite pizza – tuna fish and banana.
::shudder::

Rather than making a reservation for the singleton table facing the wall next to the kitchen, I finished up my taxes. Was pleasantly surprised to discover that CA’s short-term disability is considered tax-free* so I didn’t need to make the estimated tax payments that I did.
Which combined with a horrifying amount of medical expenses last year means I’ll be getting a big enough refund to keep me financially afloat for a bit if I can’t get SDI extended for a few more months until the shoulder finally heals enough to start working again. Assuming there’s actually any jobs for a trans woman of a certain age in Silicon Valley.
But one thing at a time…. At least that’s quieted one major source of stress for the moment. Albeit now I’m trying to not to worry about the Muskrats fucking up tax season and/or my return getting targeted for an audit because the medical expense deductions are so damn high.
*Except when it’s a replacement for unemployment insurance.

@NotMax: This may be a light thread, but at least it isn’t full of doom and gloom. Even good news for/from Sister Golden Bear. Congrats – at least it’s a start.
John Revolta
@NotMax: You earned yourself a time out for that pizza pronouncement. You just sit there and think about what you’ve done.

Don’t shoot the messenger. Only reporting what the writers chose to include in the script.

Mistakenly put downstairs.
Saturday, (10:15 p.m.?) on TCM – Cat Ballou. If you’ve never seen it and can access TCM, hie thee hither.
Might want to double check the time as the TCM web site has become wonky for those of us in Hawaii. Any confirmation or correction will be appreciated.

@RevRick: My delightful Valentines Day was a stop at our local grocery which has a florist in house. They had stocked up madly on roses, and apparently every young man in their twenties or thirties on our side of town was in there frantically buying flowers for their significant other. It was a madhouse, but so sweet.

@NotMax: We are old. Nobody younger would even get the pun.
ETA I appreciate puns and I have thought for years that you bring it to an art form.

@NotMax: that’s distasteful!

Working through a cold of some sort
Tired as phuck, but can’t get 💤 😴 💤

@rikyrah: I had a cold two weeks ago. First one in many years. Colds really suck.

Good morning early risers. I have to clear another 2-3 inches off the car this morning, looks like. But at 28° it’s already warmer than it got yesterday, when I cleared off the car in 10° temps. Plus, first coffee. Delicious cold brew concentrate from Grady’s. New Orleans style… heaven in a cup.

One hour ago, from open source reporter Niv Calderon:
If Phase One of the ceasefire continues as planned– which is not certain– three more hostages will be released on each of the next two Saturdays. According to Calderon, there are 73 Israeli hostages left in Gaza. That includes 44 known dead, killed October 7 or during the war, and 29 still alive “so far as is known.”

@sab: im often up until 4 am. Trying to reset to daytime hours, what a mess! It gets quiet on the blog this late..

@NotMax: Don’t make me sing “The Ballad of Cat Ballou.”
