Wisconsin elections are on April 1, so we have 30 days to make a difference.

What’s at stake?

  • Balance of power on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and more.
  • Musk is pouring millions of dollars into this race.
  • Let’s send a message – his money can’t buy everything, not if we’re united.
  • Momentum!

“For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.” – Hosea 8:7

Trump, Musk, and the entire GOP keep sowing the wind.

The whirlwind is here. 🧵

The fight starts here.

Howls of protest are rising from every corner of Wisconsin, and of the country. And we’ve got the first statewide test coming up in 32 days: Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race. Help us beat Brad Schimel and Elon Musk—by chipping in to elect Susan Crawford:

I linked this in a thread last weekend since there are 2 statewide races for the April election – therecombobulationarea.news/p/could-brittany-kinser-win-the-race

Brittany Kinser — an education consultant and former executive at a charter school, who also was the CEO (and a lobbyist) for pro-charter nonprofit City Forward Collective — advanced to the head-to-head general election after advancing in the primary, coming in second behind Underly. Underly ended up with 38% of the vote, Kinser with 35% and Jeff Wright, superintendent of Sauk Prairie Schools, was the odd man out with just over 27%.

There are a couple different ways you could read these results. One is that the two Democratic-aligned candidates, Underly (who was endorsed by WisDems) and Wright (a self-described Democrat) combined for more than 65% of the vote, suggesting that this race might not be all that close, after all.

But on the other hand, an incumbent candidate getting only 38% of the vote in a primary could be seen as a bit of a red flag for her re-election campaign.

… Underly has drawn the ire of Republicans on a number of issues, including the oversight of the ongoing disaster that is the administration in charge at Milwaukee Public Schools (and curious timing in DPI’s reveal of the financial reporting crisis at the state’s largest school district), as well as on new testing standards — a decision Republican state legislators aimed to reverse in a bill passed in the Assembly just last week.

… The contest between Underly and Kinser isn’t going to draw the headlines, attention or funding that the Wisconsin Supreme Court race will, but this is a very important and genuinely unique race for State Superintendent.

Underly is still the favorite, but this could be the most competitive election for this office that we’ve seen in the 21st Century, and in uncertain times, you can’t rule out an upset. Don’t sleep on this race.

I got my bonus yesterday. Smaller than usual, and then a decent chunk goes to taxes. But I’ll see if I can do some angel matching too.

Thanks for the Wisconsin support, y’all!

I’m really hoping we can get to $15k for Wisconsin by Friday.

Then we can start funding for the two House seats in FL – they are long shots, but still totally worth going for. One or both can tip the House to an even closer margin and potentially stop a whole lot of bad shit.

Thanks to yesterday, anyone who isn’t hardcore MAGA and (foolishly didn’t know what they were voting for) could potentially vote Dem or stay home to show their displeasure at throwing away US standing in foreign policy.

Speaking of which, I am at a community center here in Beaverton and helping launch Eric McGuire who is running for Beaverton school board district 2.

Political action starts at the grassroots and local level. This is how we fight 💪

I’m doing all the AV work haha.

Maybe we could do a series on front paging candidates running for office here ? They could use all the exposure they can get.

It’s time to leverage the millions of people who read this blog. We will be there new media.

ETA Eric’s opponent and current board member is a black woman who supports a superintendent who is Hispanic and is horrible and definitely supports the white patriarchy.

My wife voiced her support and that gave people permission to voice their support. My wife is very politically connected more than she thought to her surprise and her support created shockwaves.

  24. 24.

    WaterGirl

    March 1, 2025 at 2:53 pm

@schrodingers_cat: I would say there’s no way to know.

This year is unlike anything we’ve seen before, and predictions are based on an assumption that this situation is like that situation, etc.

We are out to see with the dragons, and I would say anything is possible, in any direction.

Even very low probably with the possibility of really high reward (closer House, with very few votes to spare) I think it’s worth it.

@Tenar Arha: If we had one angel match going and then hadn’t started the next yet, but started it soon after, I would say yes.

But in this situation, I sadly have to say no.  We really need this additional $7,500, and we don’t have any matches lined up after this one, so I think this one needs to be a strict match.

We are $15 shy of $500, so we are halfway to this angel match.

I am about to be in the Elle Reeve zoom, so I won’t be watching this again until the zoom is over.

But we do have a new $1k Angel match from Mousebumples as soon as we complete this one, so you guys won’t have to worry about whether this match has already been completed before you donate. :-)

And of course as soon as the new match starts, everyone is eligible to be matched to $50.

Also, if you want to write postcards in the next couple of weeks and are short on stamp money, we have options.  So send me an email if you resemble that remark.

    Okay, off to the zoom.

    @schrodingers_cat:
    @WaterGirl:

Not in Florida but have looked at some relevant data.
Context: In Iowa a month ago a Democrat flipped a long shot district (Presidential vote D%-R%)  -13 (2020), -21 (2024 rough estimates)
That data for the special elections in US House districts:
    NY-21 NY North Country (Stefanik) -16, -20
    FL-06 Daytona Beach (Waltz) -24, -28
    FL-01 Pensacola (Gaetz)  -32, -37
FL: April 1 elections, NY-21 not scheduled yet.
The D special election candidates on bluesky
    NY-21 Blake Gendebien: blakegendebien.bsky.social
    FL-06 Josh Weil: joshweil.bsky.social
    FL-01 Gay Valimont: Gayforcongress.bsky.social

On the ballot in FL-06 in addition to D Josh Weil
    R Randy Fine:
    a libertarian,
    anti-abortion extremist Randall Terry, and
another Republican running as an independent.
The latter 3 could draw quite a few votes away from the Republican from folks who will never vote for a Democrat, thereby bringing the contest closer for Weil.
Some things that could cost Fine votes: He’s

a carpetbagger – lives in a different district, different county, 75 miles south.
a multimillionaire ($28 M self-reported net worth; Casinos); Harvard BA, MBA.

In the FL Senate he has sponsored bills to ban flying flags expressing views he doesn’t like in public buildings and to lower the FL age to purchase weapons to 18.

So too rich to care about trying to lower grocery prices or deal with the Florida home insurance crisis.

Not being local I don’t know if that will resonate, or
if people in Daytona Beach, a (the most?) famous spring break destination, are less enthusiastic than an outsider like Fine about making it easier for drunk kids to bring guns to their parties, contests, and arguments.
if the Tates arriving in Florida will be a local issue that will disgust some people who have til now not objected  to rapey Rapeublicans
if Fine being from Melbourne Beach makes him more of an outsider/snob than if from elsewhere outside the district.
There are a few blue areas in the district where Weil needs to really boost turnout: Daytona Beach, DeLand, Palatka, but these are small cities.

2025 special election Democratic candidate in FL-01
Gay Valimont ran against Gaetz, lost by 32 points.
Reports raising $3.4 Million in February (twice what she raised for the 2024 general election – a lot for such a long shot district!)
