I went looking for my favorite photo of Miss Willow, but I couldn’t find it. I did find this one of baby Henry, though!
This must have been from the first two weeks because we still had the tarp on the hardwood floor. Pretty sure he weighted 4.5 pounds then!
I found my favorite photo of Miss Willow when I was changing the wallpaper on my iPhone, and now I can’t find that photo of her, so the best I can do is a screen capture from my phone.
Does anyone know if there’s a way to get information about the photo that’s your wallpaper? Normally I would just poke around, but I don’t want to risk losing this photo, even as wallpaper, since I can’t seem to find it anywhere. But it has to be on my phone in order to be the wallpaper.
The good news is that after 3 weeks of stress and worry, I got a call from the vet about Willow this afternoon. Backstory: they had found a tumor on her neck when she went in to have her teeth cleaned. So she had surgery last Thursday to remove the tumor, and today we got the results back. This is not something that spreads, and the vet got the whole tumor and good margins, so she said there’s nothing to worry about now.
Whew! My brain knows it’s great news, but it hasn’t quite sunk in yet; still totally wound up and shaky.
Anyway, yippee!
I know Josie got some great news today, but I’ll let her share that.
How about good news in some of the other backyards?
Baud
Glad to hear about Miss Willow. Poor baby.
Scout211
If the photo of Willow is currently your wallpaper on your phone, I think you can go to wallpaper in systems settings and it should show the photo there from your library
Edit: Nope, that is on the mac. It’s not the same on the iPhone. Sorry.

Our cat Martti had a fibrosarcoma removed from his hip about 8 years ago. Took two tries to get clean margins. These usually recur but we’ve gotten very lucky so far. Subliminally we’re always waiting for the other shoe to drop though.
dmsilev
Looks like a current iPhone, so: The wallpaper (including lock-screen) images should be found under System Settings->Wallpaper. I think if you’re using an image from your photo library (rather than one of the stock pictures that Apple includes) there’s link there to the library, but not completely sure.

I did a snow hike with my pup. Up above Pinecrest CA where Route 108 closes for the winter. Very nice. Only needed the snowshoes for about 2 miles. The dog loved it. Yesterday they informed me that they were going to be working on the electric lines in my neighborhood and power would be off 8-3. So off I went this AM.
Nukular Biskits
Does “good news” include getting a bunch of flowers planted?
Scout211
This works:
From the Lock Screen
Touch and hold the current wallpaper
Tap Customize
Tap the Lock Screen wallpaper
Tap the ••• button in the bottom right corner
Tap Show Photo in Library
You can do the same thing in Systems Settings by long touch on the current wallpaper photo. It worked better for me System Settings: Wallpaper
When you long touch, it goes to your current lock screen photo and then you tap the … and then tap Show Photo in Library.

I’m an old and I’ve lived with doggos and kitties forever, so I know about tumors and great margins. Yay for Willow! And you.
My Ty is going to be 4 this year and he’s a super healthy little guy. So damned grateful.
narya
My brother’s cancer was downgraded to Stage 2, likely because all the lymph nodes were clear. I’m gonna get to see him tomorrow.
and yay Miss Willow!
Albatrossity
Yay! That is good news. Please give Miss Willow an extra belly rub to celebrate!
zhena gogolia
Great news about Willow.
WaterGirl
@Scout211: Hopefully someone will know!
WaterGirl
@Nukular Biskits: Yes!
Where do you live that you can plant flowers already? North Carolina? I should probably know but I don’t recall.
edit: I bet I remember tomorrow.
WaterGirl
@Albatrossity: She is a tummy girl, so she will greatly appreciate that!
Ramalama
I wish I weren’t allergic to cats because I love them differently than I love dogs, which is a hug3 love, dogs. Baby Henry was adorable.
I was mainly a big dog person, but I inherited a small dog from my mom. My new Small dog was a non-barking dog, almost unheard of. But he carried himself like a big dog. His best friends were all big dogs.
At some point I will become a dog owner again, but in the meantime I walk my neighbors’ dogs because to walk solo is the loneliest feeling in the world.
big squeeze to Henry.
Joy in FL
I’m so glad for the good news about Miss Willow. What a sweetie she is. I have a photo of a previous Tabby cat on my iPhone home screen– great minds : )
and of course, Henry is adorable a every stage of his life.
schrodingers_cat
Good news about Miss Willow. She looks a lot like my boy kitty.
WaterGirl
@Joy in FL: I’m not sure if eclare will find that there is proof of ears in this photo, or not.
Suzanne
@narya: Oooooh that is great news! Wishing him further good luck and health!
Joy in FL
@WaterGirl: ha ha. I think I see ears there in the fluff.

Battening down the hatches right now, though, heavy storms about to roll through.

After 7 years, I’ve driven out the ninjas that were collecting slugs for their shuriken, mostly by sprinkling salt on their tails (and on the slugs).
Hm? Oh, “sprinkling salt on their tails” is the polite way of saying “packing their bum full of salt, before threatening them with the *shotgun* full of salt, and soon, the ninja learn to stay away. Yep. Now the goddamn pirates, they’re getting to be a problem. Is the ninja-pirate balance a force of nature, like the absolute speed of light in a vacuum, or that “bring balance to the force” prophecy?
What, you asked for good news on back yards, I’ve gotten the ninja out. I suppose you just wanted reasonably *realistic* news. Hmf.
Josie
Thanks, WaterGirl. I reported my news this morning, but some may not have seen it. Thanks to President Biden and the Fairness Act, I found extra money in my bank account this morning. I have been approved to start receiving survivor’s benefits from my late husband’s social security account. I was not approved for many years due to an offset passed under Reagan that denied me the benefits due to my teacher retirement money. It was such a joke because Texas retired teachers are certainly not getting rich on those payments. The new money will practically double my monthly income and make life for me and mine much more pleasant.
ETA: That picture of Henry is adorable. He looks like a toy you would want to hold and squeeze. Glad to hear about Miss Willow.
Gretchen
@WaterGirl: pretty sure he’s in Mississippi. He’s been trying to get his senator Hyde-Smith to answer calls.
RaflW
Glad Miss Willow has good news!
We got a fantastic dump of fresh snow in the CO high country last night & today. The first few runs of the day were sublime. So silky soft and buttery!
And, the better part is, the regional snowpack is back at and above 100% of normal season-to-date. Peak snowpack doesn’t come till April, but any time nature wants to refresh the stockpile is good progress. The past week was too warm :/, the snowpack actually declined for a few days.
Gretchen
@Josie: Good news! I’m happy for you!
Josie
@narya:
Such good news!

@Suzanne:
@Dorothy A. Winsor:
the only uncertainty is whether the tumor breached the wall—maybe just? Maybe not? He’s seeing an oncologist, and I suspect intensive monitoring is in his future. But yes, it’s good! I’m bringing a bunch of books for him.
narya
@Josie: and yours as well!
WaterGirl
@Nukular Biskits:
I knew that! Ugh.
MagdaInBlack
@WTFGhost: Probably while you were busy focusing on battling the ninjas, the pirates took that time to adjust their strategy and build their ranks.
Maybe?
Congratulations on evicting the ninjas, btw.
WTFGhost
@Ramalama: apropos of nothing but your nym – did you ever read Zippy the Pinhead comics? They were an indie comic, very strange, and… well, the author went all
“Obama (Dali) Lama Ding Dong(W)”
…on occasion, showing, obviously Barack Obama, Dali Lama, and George W with each appropriate sound.
@narya: Thanks for sharing (cautiously optimistic) joy!
@Nukular Biskits: You murdered flowers? Oh – wait, you’re not connected to the mob. “Planting” probably means… um… wow, this is awkward!

Great news!

@MagdaInBlack:
Sadly, yes, a lot more, the beans come from Columbia, travel through the US, (25%) get roasted and head back down, (another 25%).
They were on sale yesterday at Safeway, so I bought 8 kilos at $8.99 Cdn each.
MagdaInBlack
@Jay: I stocked up too.

@Josie: so. happy

@RaflW: Shhhhh…don’t tell JDavenport.

@Josie: Good to hear.
And I hope Ronnie is in Hell.

@kindness: Lovely! If there’s good weather, as predicted, this weekend, I’m headed up there myself. Plus a trip over to Bear Valley. No snowshoes, but hoping I can do the short hike from the road closure to Lake Alpine.
Sister Golden Bear
Great news about Miss Willow. And baby Henry was one adorable floof.
mrmoshpotato
@WTFGhost: Trash pandas?

So glad to hear about Miss Willow, and baby Henry is adorbs!
eclare
@narya:
Yay for your brother! And you!
Scout211
WaterGirl, did you try the instructions at #7 to find the photo of Willow?
eclare
@WaterGirl:
I assume there are ears under all of the floof, but I would have to check to be sure!
Ramalama
@WTFGhost: yes I read zippy the pinhead but only in the late 1980s. And then Zippy stopped appearing in alt newspapers or… alt newspapers were dying out then. I don’t recall anything more Obama forward. My nym is based on my total Jonesing for chocolate at all times. Even though, now that I think about it, ding dongs were never my first choice.
I must have been hungry when I first commented. Also it’s a stupid nym so must have made me laugh and now I’m just stuck with it.
Geminid
There is a beehive in my backyard. It’s my friend Debbie’s, and she came out this morning to treat the hive for varoa mites. It was still cold so the bees weren’t stirring, but they’d drunk up the two quart bottles of sugar water blend Debbie put out last week. So that was good news.
WaterGirl
@Scout211: My phone was almost out of gas, so I have been charging it. Looking forward to trying that first thing in the morning.
thank you!

@narya: excellent news !
WaterGirl
@eclare: I’m not even sure! But he still had ears when he got older, so they must have been there.

@narya: Yay for your good news about your brother!

No thread on the Kin Don J logorrhea?

@WTFGhost: The Zippy The Pinhead strip is still going, created by Bill Griffith. In recent years he’s created several graphic novels.
Nancy
@Nukular Biskits:
Absolutely.
Wish I could do that. Two to three more months to go before reliable planting weather will arrive here. Enjoy your gardening.

So happy for miss Willow, and all who love her.

Yay for all the good news!

@Spanky: She was raised in a cult. She is now working around extremely intelligent women. She might learn. The plus side of the Supreme Court comity is that they do learn from each other. And Alito is clueless on comity. And our guys are good at it
ETA and OT: so glad to hear/read good news about Miss Willow. She is the spitting image of Echo that I got from satby rescue. Mackeral tabby with gorgeous green eyes.

@sab: They do learn from each other, most of them, unless, like Thomas, they are bribed not to. That’s why Thomas’s corruption matters.
