I didn’t know the origin of the “No, I haven’t seen the cat” photo, but someone found it – most likely Another Scott – and the whole website is delightful.
I dare you to go look through the photos at Hessel en Hannes and not feel 10x more calm than when you started.
Below is just a small teaser of what you’ll see if you click the link above.
I love my guys more than anything, but how do you ever leave the house or hold down a job when you have these adorable guys to distract you all day?

Absolutely delightful!!

Love the pictures!

That’s my kind of interwebs. Thank you WaterGirl, much appreciated.

Even my jaded ass can love some loving. Cats and dogs together? YES.
Thanks.

One of the best things about working remotely 3/5 days is being home with my kitteh. He’s 17 and I really appreciate thr time I have to spend with him—even when I’m on a Zoom call and he’s all “MOM! Pay attention to MEEEE!”

Our dog would rather DIE than cuddle the cat. Or perhaps the cat would rather DIE than cuddle the dog. That said, there’s a workable truce between them that leads to mostly relative calm, with occasional flurries. ;-)

So cute!

@Darkrose:
The only time my non-affectionate cat pays attention to me, other than when she’s hungry, is when I’m speaking on the phone.
It’s uncanny.

I tested your hypothesis. Watergirl. I am calm. And smiling.

I had a lovely walk in the sunshine today. Spotted this Northern Pygmy Owl that had caught a fat vole nearly as big as it’s small self.

We have a pair of cats who have absolutely no use for me. Well, that’s putting it too strongly. I’m allowed to clean their litter box and put out food and water, as long as it’s understood that hissing will be involved.
It’s kinda my fault. We got them as kittens when they were almost all the way to feral, and I didn’t work very hard to win them over; mr h did that. In my defense, the sight of a very cute tiny kitten growling and hissing at me like they did was horror-movie material.
Another Scott
Glad to help!
There are amazing tools out there to find images. TinEye and Google Image Search are my go-tos (though the latter seems to have changed a little recently). And Google Lens is very good at identifying stuff in a picture.
Amazing times for trying to find stuff that’s buried out there!
I did recently stump both of them with the image here. I couldn’t find it anywhere else; maybe he personally used some AI thingy to create it.
Hang in there, everyone.
Best wishes,
Scott.

@hitchhiker: a reminder that SCAB (some cats are bastards)

@Darkrose: I am mostly retired except for three months during tax season.
My cats are quite upset that I am now gone eight hours most days when they were used to me always being home. I thought they mostly ignored me, but it turns out sltting around or just sleeping near me is important to them.
ArchTeryx
As the joke goes in my household, what color is the dog cuddle toy?
(The answer is nearly always, “orange” or “diet orange” because of the aphorism that All Orange Cats Share One Brain Cell. And this is absolutely no exception).

My favorite cat is sleeping right now up against his pitbull. Other cats would like to be sleeping there, but Dobby has dibs because he is her favorite cat.

@Jay:
I saw that flights at Miami and Fort Lauderdale were affected. Why is the US allowing this asshole to disrupt air travel for vanity bullshit antics?
Jay
@eclare:
You know.
sab
@Jay: She is in Tennessee. I am in Ohio which has a very large Ukrainian immigrant population going back several generations. We took in many thousands of Ukraine refugees this war, mostly wives and children of men still over there fighting.
And Trump today decided to revoke their temporary refugee status and deport them all. To please Putin and to dis Biden. And just to get attention by being an asshole.
And our clunky government is so disfunctional now that one asshole elected by a tiny majority can just do this.
Jay
@sab:
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is on it and has been for months.
There are places here for them. if they can avoid ICE.
sab
@Jay: I hope you are right. I am beyond stunned, shocked, outraged, ashamed and embarrassed. I hope you guys can protect them because we certainly couldn’t be bothered. Worse than that, we set them up for betrayal.
I am beyond ashamed of my country, but in the global scheme of things nobody else cares. We are what we do. I just hope their countries are saving our victims.
eclare
@sab:
I am there with you, ashamed. And back in 2008 I was so proud, watching the Obama family walk out in Chicago.
Times have fucking changed.
sab
@Jay: Was Chrystia Freeland in Finance or Foreign Service? She is gone now so I don’t suppose she has any influence. Being American I suppose I am missing all sorts of nuance.
My Chinese American nephews and in-laws have been in shock since November.
We used to be friendly to the world and now possiby they are pariahs by presidential fiat. Nothing specific has come down but everyone is edgy.

@eclare: Did you ever even imagine that we could sink so low so fast?

We moved last summer to a house on railroad tracks. All the neighbors tell us you can judge the economy by the level of train traffic.
Before Christmas we had ten or more trains a day. After Christmas it slowed down to about four.
It got a bit frantic just before the tariffs kicked in. Now we are lucky to have two.
Our railroad is Wheeling and Lake Erie. They ship mostly from W Va up through Ohio to the great lakes and Canada and back again.
These tariffs are going to clobber us.
eclare
@sab:
No. Failure of imagination, and failure to listen to other people, on my part.
eclare
@sab:
Interesting. Memphis has a huge train industry, five lines run through it.
Now that you mention it, I haven’t heard a distant train whistle in a while. Used to hear them nightly.
Jay
@sab:
Both,
But while she is a Ukraine “hawk”, she has baggage.
Her Grandad was a Nazi supporter, of sorts. It’s complex.
She is a Lauffer Curve, economist.
Personally , don’t care.
I vote ABC, any body but the “Conservative”. I pick the candidate in my riding most likely to pick off the Con and vote for them.
It’s been a thing since Joe Clark.
sab
@Jay: I did know about the Nazi grandfather, but only recently. I did not know she was a Laffer curve economist. That is not really an economist at all. Sigh.
eclare
@sab:
Ugh. Laffer curve. How is that still a thing?

Classic.
Jay
@sab:
He ran one of the last Ukrainian Nationalist newspapers, at the time, under the Nazi’s. Her brother wrote his doctorate about it.
It would have been a no biggie, if not for the denial.
Gun to your head, watcha gonna write, and it’s not a figurative gun.
Lauffer Curve, not so much a big deal. Bullshit embedded in a generation that is hard to dig out, despite empirical evidence.
sab
@Jay: Can I say how relieved I am that you are still willing to post here? Canada is a cypher to us that we don’t even know that we don’t understand.
Jay
@sab:
I survived the 9/11 shit with multiple bans by the blogmister, so,……………………………………………………
I know that Canada isn’t in most American’s radar, or Mexico
But we are done with you,

This could be me & Noah. I woke up to him taking up most of my pillow again, with a paw cradling my cheek. Such a gift of comfort. With hubby stretched out on the couch, Noah snuggles up alongside and under an arm, and tilts his head back and gazes adoringly into hubby’s face…
Blessed comfort and gentle peace to all.
sab
@Jay: Is this goodby or just venting?
My two stepsons ( who voted Harris) are about to lose their jobs because their companies trade with Canada for parts. Back and forth across the border for almost everything. Some made here. Some made there. Some made from parts on either side, assembled on the other then shipped wherever.
This is our economy. I didn’t give a fuck about what goes on in NY real estate, but now their assholes are about to bring down two healthy North American economies.
sab
@TBone: I am so glad to see/ hear Noah is improved.
( What is the appropriate verb here?)
sab
@Jay: My dad tried to move us to BC in 1966. He even had a job lined up. over. My Ohio mom with Canadian cousins said No!. Apparently the weather was a factor.
I loved my mom, but that was a very bad choice.

@sab:
To be perfectly accurate.
NutmegAgain
Fantastic! I seem to be spending more time looking at animal stuff online these days. Wonder why?

@sab:
This dumb shit in office thinks that we will make billions off of the tariffs. Or more along the line that he will. He has zero understanding of how anything works. Possibly I am over crediting him. Quite possibly.
And the reality is that this possibly lowers the effective price on shitforbrains II vehicles. Except of course I believe a fair number of parts come from other countries and so shitforbrains II is quite likely screwing himself as well. Not that this is going to make any difference. And how many other countries are going to impose a 25% tariff on US goods coming into their country? Did I hear ALL OF THEM?
Yea, this is a swell idea………
