When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

When we show up, we win.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

These are from a protest that cckids attended a couple of weeks ago in Wenatchee, WA.

Yes, I am terribly behind on my email!

 

Here’s what cckids had to say about the protest.

It’s in central Washington—the apple capital of the world! I live on the west side, but I’m here pet sitting for my kids.

Wenatchee is pretty red, but had very decent turnout at Memorial Park-I would guesstimate around 250-300 people. I was there for just about two hours, and it was still going when I left.

I just wanted to share the good news that even in redder areas, people are finding each other and beginning the building of a resistance.

I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the reaction we were getting, lots and lots of supportive honks and cheers. One MAGAt had to yell “Get a job!”, which was rich, considering quite a few folks there were federal lands/agricultural employees who’d just gotten axed Friday.

There were some signs I loved, but their holders weren’t comfortable with pics, so to quote:

Elon Musk can oligargle my balls  (jackel worthy)

Stop firing people before you know what their job does

And one that hit me on a personal level, was being held by a young woman who was accompanying a little girl in a wheelchair:  “DEIA is the only reason I’m allowed in school”

My oldest son had several mental and physical handicaps, and yes – without laws like IDEA he wouldn’t have had any schooling.

And without Medicaid, he’d have died in his first year of life. God, these people suck.

      The US Secret Service shot a man outside the White House early on Sunday after an “armed confrontation”, the service said in a statement.
      It had earlier received a tip-off from local police about a “suicidal individual who may be travelling to Washington DC from Indiana”, it said.
      Its officers approached a man matching that description, “who brandished a firearm”, adding that shots were fired. The man is now in hospital in an “unknown” condition, it said.
      President Donald Trump was not in the White House at the time, as he is spending the weekend at his Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago.
      “As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the statement said.
      The incident is now under investigation by Washington’s Metropolitan Police, which investigates all law-enforcement shootings in the District of Columbia.

      The more the VA, Medicaid, Medicare, etc etc are gutted, the more likely this will become more common.

      Funny because there’s a story in yesterday’s Escanaba Daily Press newspaper about some folks here in the UP who got frustrated because Rep. Jack Bergman won’t hold a town hall and held one without him.  Bergman ranks very high on the scale of useless to worthless; the reporter who covered the event sent Bergman’s office a list of the main issues raised at the well-attended town hall.  They were answered by his press secretary, James Hogge, who immediately claimed that the town hall was a “political stunt” organized by radical left wing Democrats (good luck finding one of those in the UP). Most of his answers were snide, standard GOP talking points….

      How do we feel about this? 

      Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and Representative Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) introduced legislation that would immediately cap credit card interest rates at 10%. Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced companion legislation last month in the Senate.

      “Credit cards with high interest rates regularly trap working people in endless cycles of debt. At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet, we cannot allow big banks to shake down our communities for profit. During his campaign, President Trump pledged to cap credit card interest rates at 10%. We’re making that pledge more than a talking point by introducing legislation to protect working people from remaining trapped under mountains of debt,” said Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

      “I’m proud to be the bipartisan co-lead to this legislation. For too long, credit card companies have abused working class Americans with absurd interest rates, trapping them in an almost insurmountable amount of debt. We need a fair solution – and that means getting rid of the status quo and putting a reasonable cap on interest rates,” said Representative Anna Paulina Luna.

      I’ve personally never been afraid of the word “bipartisan” but I know others feel differently, perhaps depending on the issue.

      Fifty, sixty, seventy years ago, there were caps on interest rates: if you charged more than a certain percentage, it was legally considered usury.

      That worked until the prime rate went into double digits, and ultimately past 20%.  They had to repeal all those anti-usury laws, and they didn’t put anything in their place.  Which gets us to now.

      So that’s why I’m a bit leery about a cap on interest rates that’s just a fixed number.  If they want a cap like prime rate + 7%, I’d be cool with something like that.  But I don’t want a cap that reality could potentially blow right through.

      @Baud: I guess we’d have to read the fine print to be sure, but a 10% cap on credit card interest seems like a good thing.

      Especially since they are calling Trump’s bluff.

      I hope to see bills in the House and Senate soon taking the same track – free IVF!  Since he promised it during the campaign and all. :-)

      Government spending is not an ill, it most recently primed the best economic comeback from the Covid epidemic on the planet. And much of that spending was earmarked to repair and re-construct infrastructure that had been ignored for decades.

      Answer could have been “because Democrats believe in investing in their country and all its citizens over tax cuts to the rich.”

      I’ve got postcarding on my agenda this weekend. Went to a postcard event with some friends yesterday – huge turnout, so we splintered off and did Postcards to Voters (vs Postcards to Swing States). They had 800 addresses, and I just got us more addresses, for us.

      60 written. Need to get them addressed and stamped today. (well, I probably could do that tomorrow, but I’d like to get them in the mail first thing tomorrow)

      That assumes Slotkin actually picked up on the typical, lazy, media question using right-wing framing as the point of departure.

      It’s media engagements like that one that makes one really appreciate what Sec Pete brought to the table in situations like that.  He awta be teaching that to his fellow Dems.

      @Sure Lurkalot: You might have meant, Elissa Slotkin represents a purple state. Slotkin flipped a Republican-held House district in 2018, and was elected Senator from.Michigan last November. Slotkin replaced Senator Debbie Stabenow.

      @WaterGirl: I wasn’t trying justify Slotkin’s words, just pointing out that she represents a state and not a district.

      However, I think Michigan Democrats made the right decision when they chose Slotkin to run for that seat. They must have thought so too, because the primary wasn’t even close.

      States still have usury laws. As all state based laws, they vary across the 50 states. Some states, like South Dakota, allow higher interest rates, so all the credit card companies moved to those states.

      There’s a lot of people who like bipartisanship and politicians being calm, for lack of a better word, than publicly demonstrative types.

      The question we political junkies, who want a more aggressive Democratic Party, is are there more of us than there are normies.

      @comrade scotts agenda of rage: CNN’s news website is increasingly posting articles behind a $ubscription paywall.  After their coverage in the months running up to the 24 election, IMO they ought to be paying readers to visit the site, not charging them (especially since there are ads on even the freebee articles).

      @gene108: Not asking her to be an Elizabeth Warren. She could have pointed out that tax cuts are government spending to benefit the wealthy and Reagan’s, Bush’s and Trump’s tax cuts pretty much comprise our national debt.

      Instead, she followed Walker off a cliff. Government bad! Tax and spend Democrats! No wonder a lot of Americans’ sentiment about “Bidenomics” was negative.

      Many sites are doing this. Because even when I delivered newspapers as a kid (way too many years ago to say how long ago that was – believe me) the number of subscribers wasn’t increasing. And really today you can get all the news online without wasting that paper, ink, diesel fuel delivering rolls of newsprint – and then printed newspapers – that are pretty useless in less than 24 hrs. Unless you have a bird cage….
