Sure, positivity & uplift are important, but the poo-flinging primate portions of our genome can really appreciate some communal abuse on a nice Spring day…
Join the #TeslaTakedown Mass Call this Wednesday at 8:30PM ET/ 5:30 PT! It's a great way to be part of the movement if you aren't able to get out into the street and a night of solidarity for those who have! With special guests!

And, after his years of sounding the Tesla alarms, I don’t blame Ed Niedermeyer for being in heaven over it!
Today at the Portland #teslatakedown with @niedermeyer.online & the crew. Getting out to these every Saturday has been really nice. I've made new friends & convinced some old ones to join in! Ed's Shakespeare "Ides of March" theme went hard!

The Ides of March wasn't A Good Thing That Should Happen Again (it only delayed what it sought to prevent) but it's an important part of the historical traditions our country was built on. It's a remind of what happens when democratic representation is lost, and politics regress toward violence.

Thanks for these early morning and late night posts AL! They bookend my (frequent) nights of not enough sleep. When you’re old you need at least eight hours. As if!
ETA Hah! Frist!

@NotMax: Pretty much! I have friends who make up the difference taking naps. The one day or so every two weeks that I try that is nice but mostly I don’t sleep during naps either and end up reading Still More Balloon Juice!

I’ve seen a lot of nicknames for Musk since he went Nazi (Elmo, Onle Skum, etc.), but considering the state of Tesla these days, I’m surprised that Lemon Musk didn’t become more popular.
It also keeps to the fruity theme that the Tangerine started.

Not sure if this has been posted before, I missed it when the change 1st came out. Tracks w/ the times:

Eight hours? How the hell do you manage that?

@NotMax: I’m in a state where my body wakes up after maybe six hours and then punishes me all day because I didn’t get at least seven hours.

I think this has been mentioned in prior threads, but here is an article the BBC w/ more details:
By designating any kind of organization as “terrorists”, & critics as against human rights abuse as “supporters of terrorism”, & exploiting the vulnerabilities of the legal status of non-citizens, outsourcing the incarceration to other countries, & wanton disregard for judicial checks, the reactionaries have now developed the basic framework to suppress dissent & intimidate would be opposition, in the manner akin to a hard authoritarian state. They are leveraging ancient & by now obscure legal codes for the flimsiest of fig leaves. All that remains is a process for “denaturalization” & revoking birthrigh citizenship on “natsec” grounds.
The alleged gang members have been sent to a foreign country w/o any due process, incarcerated in a facility well known for rampant abuse. Suppressing criminal syndicates should be a law enforcement issue, & so should be combating domestic terrorism.
All of this is downstream of the 2 decades of GWOT, all of the undermining of civil rights in the name of “natsec”, the pushing of boundaries against Constitutional & institutional constraints, & the violations (from the GWB terms) that went unpunished, which have conditioned much of the American general public to see such things as “normal”. Turns out, the civil liberties absolutists were right, it is a slippery slope.

From the beginning of Brazil (1985). In the comments to this clip, many seemed to believe that this scene was the fruit of some dystopian fantasy, and that life was just lately starting to imitate art. Actually, Gilliam incorporated a lot of research on what some governments were up to at that moment, complete with such evil banalities as “information retrieval charges,” into that scene and others toward the end of the movie. Director’s cut, which even TCM won’t show, is essential. If anyone sees it streaming somewhere, I’d sure like to know, though I have the discs.

@Baud: France “leaving” NATO (more complicated than that of course) looking better & better for France & Europe. French nuclear deterrent actually independent. UK is now “uhhh, you mean we can’t launch without US/Putin’s OK!?!”
Not that anyone’s looking forward to that, but if one can no longer trust the US nuclear umbrella…🤷🏻♂️

@YY_Sima Qian: That’s what gets me about this business – we’re not supposed to care about shipping hundreds of people to a horrific gulag because oh, they’re all violent gang members? Really? Says who? Same folks who decided to cancel funding for dog food for the TSA’s bomb-detector dogs?
judging by this administration’s track record, if we ever get an accurate accounting of who got shipped, the number of them who are gang members will be half or less. Some will be refugees from government abuse and some will be various other nationalities with perhaps the same or similar name to someone they have a warrant for. At least one and probably more will be US citizens. And before this sorry episode is over, at least one person will die from lack of necessary medication they’ve been trying to tell people about ever since they were detained.
“Move fast and break things.” How jaunty, how insouciant.

BTW, tonight I saw CNN’s Enron episode of their scandal program and it really resonated. Back then, Jeffrey Skilling was the nation’s much admired “visionary genius”. Guys, next time we hear that someone is a visionary genius let’s go ahead and just lock them up and save time and a whole lot of money.
I recall from the early days of the Enron scandal, reporters talking about how the whole business world was conned by Enron. When asked how they make their money, Skilling would say something like, “I’d explain it but you wouldn’t understand.”
YY_Sima Qian
@p.a.: Unfortunately, no one can really trust the French (or British) nuclear umbrella, which is why Germany & Poland are talking about acquiring their own nuclear deterrent. The U.S.’ (& the USSR’s) umbrellas has/had credibility because they are/were superpowers whose world positions are/were dependent on their alliances, & are/were continent sized nations that could “absorb” a limited exchange. Neither France nor the UK have superpower ambitions, & just a few nukes to Paris or London & a few other cities would be debilitating their survivals as nation states.
There will always be doubt whether France is willing to trade Paris for defense of Vilnius/Talinn/Riga, perhaps not even Warsaw/Bucharest/Sofia. In fact, the credibility of even the U.S.’ nuclear umbrella was doubted in European capitals during the Cold War, which was why France insisted on obtaining its own deterrent.

What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?
I talked to my parents last night. They live in Grand Rapids, MI. Nearby, just to the West in Ottawa County is Republican rep Peter Huizinga’s congressional district. They said his offices have been besieged by protesters non-stop. When people in West Michigan are pissed off enough to protest like that people must be pretty damn pissed off. West Michigan is not a bastion of left wing politics to say the least and far from prone to visible political action, especially against Republicans.

I’ll always believe that Musk made Teslas on purpose such that if they catch on fire you can’t get out and die, trapped inside. The man is a sociopath who giggles when he hears about people suffering. He used Auschwitz as a photo op.

I hope you all have seen Mark Kelly’s response to being called a traitor by Musk. In the first video he posted, he says he is getting rid of his Tesla. In the second one he is showing off his new vehicle made by UAW workers in the US.

With Trump declaring “violence” against Tesla dealerships domestic terrorism, the Tesla mass call registration sounds like a honey trap. /paranoia

To paraphrase an old Russian proverb. The visionary genius may seem a good fellow but it is better to hang him.
