Looks like Mr. Bemused Senior and HinTN are up to no good are tentatively planning a meetup inn Pescadero!
Hey, Silicon Valley B-J peeps (from Santa Cruz to San Francisco and points east). Mr Bemused Senior and HinTN are contemplating a meet-up at Duarte’s Tavern in Pescadero on Sunday, 6 April, at 3 P.M.
Looks like my kind of place! Alas, 2000 miles is too far for me for a meetup
Who’s up for this meetup? It’s coming up fast. Chime in below!
Mr. Bemused Senior
Thanks for posting this.
[ETA next Sunday. This Sunday is 3/30.]

Simple, every one of places have a more competent leader. Trump’s history of failure in business and his personal life is extraordinary. If he wasn’t the world’s greatest narcissist, I’m sure he’d collapsed in on himself with shame long ago like some kind of failure singularity.

Sigh. Wrong post to reply to.

I’d be interested.
But.
It’s NorCAL and I’m SoCAL and have ZERO desire to drive, ride the train or fly 400 miles. And back.
I flew all around the country for work for ten years in professional sports. That’s on the road for 6 days a week for 8 months a year. Only state I haven’t been to is Alaska. I flew so much that the check in folks at LAX knew me on sight.

Duarte’s Tavern is great. Not much for vegetarians sadly. A bit of a drive to get there, but can be gorgeous on the coast.
I can’t make it, driving to Death Valley that day

I usually am swimming at that time. Could make it late – it’s about a half hour drive for me.

I’d go, but I’ll be out of town. Fabulous pie at Duarte’s. It’s also got a fairly rare on/off ABC license, where it acts as the local liquor store, or you can get lunch and take a bottle of booze to go. I go down there with friends every year on the day before Thanksgiving to pick up some pies.

My god I miss that stretch of coast so much.
If I can make one menu recommendation, it’s the green chili creme soup. Duarte’s is famous for their artichoke soup, but the green chili is better in my opinion.
Okay, second recommendation is the deep-fried smelt. But all those crunchy little bones are maybe not to everyone’s tastes…
HinTN
@Craig: YES! The ollalaberry pie is amazing. I go for the half and half (green chili and artichoke) soup.
Come one come all.

I am out-of-town that weekend. Have fun!

Great restaurant, though on a pleasant Sunday afternoon there might be quite a wait to be seated.
Don’t miss the nearby Harley Farms goat dairy, which I suspect is overrun with recent baby goats at this time of year.

I’m going to be out of town (coming home on the evening of the 6th) but if anyone in the East Bay wants to meet up some other time I’d be up for it.
Sister Golden Bear
I’m in.
HinTN
@Jacel: Even when there’s a line out front the bar is always walk-in. We’ll play by ear.

@Jacel: The goat farm was closed the day we were there. In fact, the whole town, such as it is, seemed to be out to lunch elsewhere. Was it a Tuesday? I forget.
Nevertheless, Pescadero was such a sleepy little place. We were visiting from NYS, and it was nice to have spring instead of snow.

A possible in from me. It should be a fun drive in my ancient Miata but I’m not sure that I’ll be fully free that afternoon.

If I’m in town, I’ll be there.

I’ll have to let you know in a week or so, as I’ll be in the north Bay next Saturday, and that’s 2 long drives for those days.
And I’m so old I’ve been going there since the 70’s, when the original generation was still around, and when locally-caught abalone steak, abalone sandwiches, and cioppino were staples to order when we had family celebrations (I like the green chili soup, too). The Arcangeli Grocery store down the same street as Duarte’s has its own good food goodies, including a usual and unusual selection of breads, like artichoke, which you can purchase there or send to others out of town. Good also for picnic foods for oceanside picnics or to hike or camp in the nearby hills.

Count me in. Looking forward to a first meetup.

Alas, my family needs me to stay close to home today. I won’t make it after all. Have fun scheming, compatriots.
