On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
It would be super helpful to have a few individual OTR submissions come in this week. For the next few weeks i have some short series, and I could use some singles to go along with them. 3 + Albatrossity means I need another one for the week, and all I have are sets that I don’t want to break up.

What a difference a year makes (in more ways than one)! Gone are the morose mannequins in skimpy outfits (OTR post), replaced with the symphony of color and diaphanous orchids of the Mexican Modernism exhibit (38:13 min) .
If you are in the city, definitely go, it will be worth it. For an hour or so you’ll be able to escape reality and be reminded that beauty and joy still exist.

My daughter just went and said it was great! I’m going with a florist friend in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait!

I’ve been trying to figure out how to convert HEIC into .jpg now that I’m in an all Apple environment, as I’ve got a stack of Milan, Malta during Carnival, Melbourne, Tahiti, Sydney, Fiji, Provence and Heron Island (a nature preserve in the Great Barrier Reef) just all in the last year, but I’m struggling on the technical side.

Lovely lovely lovely! Thank you, ema!

@Deputinize America:
Open the pic. From the top click File then Export. Then click Format and choose JPEG, choose location where you want the pic and click Save.

Thank you all!

@ema: This.
Though I would add that this is using Preview (which I think is the default on every Apple device, at least on Macs and iPads, not sure about iPhone). There may be other desktop apps where the instructions would be slightly different.

Beautiful pix. Makes me sad that we had to cancel our trip to Mexico City. We’ll get there eventually for sure, but the fire and relocating to Taos etc., meant we had to put the trip on hiatus until we are more settled. One of the things we miss about SoCal is the flowers. Huntington Gardens was a regular hang out of ours and even at our little home (RIP) we had some lovely rose bushes, a camellia tree and dahlias. New Mexico is its’ own kind of beautiful but flowers are much harder to find and don’t permeate the landscape like they do in the home of the Rose Parade.

That’s a truly amazing set of wildly colorful and wildly expressive flowers. Thank you!
In other news, there’s a meet-up post from yesterday (Duarte’s Tavern) if you’re in the Silicon Valley area on 6 April.

ema, I remember the one from last year – that one with the mannequins was really something else!
Cannot believe it’s been a year.
So much beauty and color in this one! I really appreciate that you bring NYC to us here on Balloon Juice.

Just spectacular. Thanks so much. Beauty still exists.

@Deputinize America: If you email an iPhone HEIC to yourself it turns into a JPG you can save to your hard drive. Or to the Photos in your phone, although I’ve never tried it.
Also, there’s a shareware program called IrfanView that changes file types plus dozens of other things like changing file size, which is what I use it for.
HEIC. Another way Apple makes my life more difficult by improving things.

Most (those?) people think of Mexico as a back-water. That’s on them
More thriving middle-class than we and … culture: we don’t have culture
But hey! That’s on them, less they know the better …
