So We Did a Podcast

DougJ, Mistermix, and I had talked for a while about a podcast, so we went out and made one. Obligatory:

At any rate, for some bizarre reason, they decided I should be the face and voice of things, I was only allowed to do about fifteen minutes of research on wikipedia of the guest so that I would be asking questions that everyone would understand and not people talking about the audience (which, considering how stupid I can be would be quite a feat).

At any rate, here is the inaugural podcast with a really interesting guy named Nick Carmody, JD, MS Psych, who you can find on bluesky at @nick-carmody.bsky.social, at his patreon (no paywall) https://patreon.com/NickCarmody, and at his substack (no paywall) https://nickcarmody.substack.com/.

BTW, the name of the podcast is Personality Disorder Crisis which DougJ swears is not a personal attack on me and allegedly about the topics we discuss, but I am not sure I believe him. At any rate, here is the first edition, which we did this morning (for me at 7 am, the bastards):

We’ll get better at this as we do more of them. Enjoy.

“BTW, the name of the podcast is Personality Disorder….”

    Or maybe “Personality Crisis”?

But confusion about names is pretty much what you’d expect from someone having a personality crisis/disorder.

I still think, despite it being a “podcast,” that you should rig up a set just like the one they had for Fernwood Tonight. Who knows, Happy Kine and the Mirth Makers may need a new gig, what with egg prices and all going up.

Also, consider inviting Driftglass and Bluegal for an episode- they’re OG bloggers keeping it real.

Here is a good quote to go along with this:

If there is a sharp dividing line in America now, this is it. It is the line between joyful people and miserable people; between those who live open-handed toward the world and those whose fists are balled up tightly; between people who are compelled by compassion and those fueled by anger; between people who want a bigger table—and those feel the table is their birthright.

    O/T A Putin style “investigation?”

The Pentagon’s acting inspector general announced Thursday that he would review Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of the Signal messaging app to convey plans for a military strike against Houthi militants in Yemen,” the AP reports.

“The review will also look at other defense officials’ use of the publicly available encrypted app, which is not able to handle classified material and is not part of the Defense Department’s secure communications network.”

Isn’t the acting defense inspector general a FFOTUS appointee? This will be a paid by tax payers sham investigation.

With the population growth and the advent of far better communications we have, like what we are doing here, now, one thing is the context of manhood. It is more difficult for those that feel the need to stand out among the masses, to stand out as the top rung of everyone becomes far more difficult because there are far more rungs to climb. For normal people it just feels a bit more crowded – because they don’t really feel that need to climb to the top to be NOTICED, recognized as the top of the heap.

In regard to djt (in my book shitforbrains…) he is one of the type that NEEDS to be the top of the heap. That need he is of course unable to full fill without a supplied podium or stage as a recognized leader – he is incapable of getting there any other way, as in on his own.

Great name–when I was in high school (early to mid ’70s) the NY Dolls used to come up to Boston and play at a few clubs in the area. Family member’s boyfriend was in a band that usually opened for them, so I and all my friends went to nearly all the shows. Being a messed up teenager already, I can’t say all that led me in a good direction. But I can absolutely say that Johansen was a really nice person. Kane was a weirdo zombie, and Jerry & Johnny were junkies. ETA Syl was also a very nice guy. Ah, those were the days.

    @lamh47:

Just for those who don’t click on the links:

At least one Republican changed their mind on Oz this week. Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, who had publicly opposed Oz’s nomination, said Monday that he would back the doctor after being reassured that Oz “now disavows his previous support for trans surgeries” and “walks back past criticism of state pro-life laws.”
Oz, a physician who gained national fame as a daytime TV show host with a history of promoting dubious health claims, had a largely rancor-free confirmation hearing last month. He did, however, decline to say that he opposed cuts to Medicaid, which Republicans have eyed for steep cuts. Like other Trump Cabinet nominees, Oz also refused to say whether he would follow a hypothetical unlawful order from President Donald Trump if he were to be confirmed.
Oz assumes the role as administrator of the CMS with little to no experience in government health policy. The agency, which is under the purview of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has a budget of about $1.5 trillion and provides health insurance to roughly 160 million Americans.

    A swell guy

The Senate confirmed Oz on a party-line vote of 53-45.

@Ruckus: Apropos of nothing, but the best characterization of non-toxic masculinity I think of in media was Waymond in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

But Trump needs to be top of the heap not because of toxic masculinity but because his dad convinced his psyche that he’s deep down a loser, and Trump is in this lifelong struggle to prove to himself that he’s not, and no matter what he achieves in life, even when he looks at himself in the White House mirror he can’t help but see a loser, so he goes out and cranks the wheel a little further the next day trying to overcome it. Remember kids, untreated mental illness affects everyone around you.

I like history. You Tube et al keep shoving Nazi apologists into my feeds, and CT cranks.

I am old enough, experienced enough to ID bullshit.

    Many young people aren’t.

I did an experiment once, a couple of years ago, where I followed the You Tube recommendations. 10 clicks to a Genocide Denial vid with a scattering of PragerU , Tate Brothers and Jordan Peterson tossed in.

One suggestion from the peanut gallery.

If seeking a wider audience, nix the casual use of swear words.

@lamh47: I’m a financial analyst for DOH Medicaid. We work with CMS to make up the difference between Medicaid and Medicare charges to keep our hospitals afloat.

    Or did.

@Jay: I can recommend freetube and newpipe as YouTube clients that allow one to control what is pushed to you, as well as remove ads.

Don’t know. I watch Animarchy History, Lazerpig, Hardthrasher , et al, and in almost all their vids and podcasts, they open with “I am going to recount for you, some of the most horrific things that people have done to people, but some of you are upset that I use swear words”.

Really enjoyed the podcast, John. Lots in there for me to chew on, especially the insights into addictive behavior.  Looking forward to the next episode.

@catclub: Right, but social media puts everyone into that space without people having the intuitive understanding of the dynamic. I as a trained academic can look at that and say ‘oh, that’s an outlier, I can’t reasonaly compare myself to them’ (I don’t always catch myself, but when I do, I can reason through it pretty easily). But most humans are linear thinkers in a world that is decidedly non-linear, and approaching exponential. It’s no wonder we regularly go through these crises.

I don’t have a problem curating my feeds, and I kinda like seeing what garbage they are trying to sell, from ads to recommendations.

@Jay: thats a choice, one I wouldn’t make, but i think it’s important for folks to be aware that there are choices, including ones that don’t run up view counts of fascists.

Also I have a child in my home so there’s no fucking way I’d use yt without some kind of protection.

    @sentient ai from the future:

I understand and respect your choices.

In the last not quite decade, I worked with many young males of the target demo, who swallowed the BS, hook line and sinker.

Knowing what was “out there” armed me to shut down their BS quickly and redirect them.

All some learned, was “not to engage”, some learned, “I saw this thing,…..”.

A scant few. Do appreciate when the people on them maintain an awareness they’re speaking in front of an audience and not just chatting amongst themselves, however.

I liked the podcast too, although I am so tired of analyzing the CF, but now I understand  why his tactics of fear are so effective. Just wish it would all go away.

I listened to the podcast this evening. I really liked it, learned a lot, got a more clear idea of my experience with 2 narcissistic people in my life. That helped.

John, your questions were helpful, especially the one where you asked Nick to explain what he was describing for people who didn’t already understand about the personality disorders. His explanation was really helpful.

I look forward to more episodes.
