Anybody have plans for this weekend?
Everything feels like too much today, so I’ve got nothing productive to say, except that evil is evil. But someone earlier today asked for a post to share ideas for signs for Saturday, and I can do that, at least.
So this is a place where you can do that or talk about anything else.
In case just one sweet image is not enough.
Totally open thread.

Supposed to be in the 80s, so I’ll be fighting the existential dread from my patio.

It’s supposed to rain, so indoor activities. I’m going to decorate wooden Easter eggs. Still haven’t seen eggs at the store in a while.
Old Dan and Little Ann
I’m going to enjoy some possible snow showers and contemplate the 1st practice of a softball coach if spring arrives at some point.
Mr. Bemused Senior
Meet up on Sunday 3:00 PM PDT at Duarte’s Tavern (Pescadero, CA). I’m looking forward to it.

Protest at the capitol on Saturday.

We’ve had an unseasonably cold and wet spring so far but we are expecting normal temps and plenty of sunshine this weekend. So my plans are to hit the plant nursery to buy veggies to plant in my garden. Then the rest of the weekend I will be digging in the dirt, planting veggies and melons and (finally) enjoying the sunshine and temps in the 70s.
And also too, I will be doing my best to try to avoid all the bad news.

Rain here too. Plus the protest is planned for a tiny plot of land outside a strip mall. I’ve seen groups there before, maybe twenty people. I wish they’d schedule it for downtown near the National Civil Rights Museum (Memphis).
I need to hit up the nursery for some mint plants, I brew my iced tea with mint.

BBQ with a bunch of my biker friends on Saturday. We don’t have any ‘Bikers for Trump’ in this crew but they skew conservative. A lot of them are retired…going to be some interesting conversations that evening.

What’re we gonna do this weekend, Brain?
Why, the same thing we do every weekend, Pinky! Take over the world!

Between the weather forecast and the status of my knee, I don’t think I’ll be doing much outside. But hey, today was the first pickup day for the spring CSA, so warmth will come fairly soon.

Our triathlon club is hosting a season kickoff party. After not being able to race last year because of plantar fasciitis and smoldering multiple myeloma treatment, I’m hoping to get some races in this year.
Took the tri bike out today for the first time this year and boy was it nice to be back on the road with it.

Oldest daughter and I are planning on protesting Saturday. On the 12th the Democrats in our area are holding a town hall which the R rep will not attend and I want to go to that so I can meet like minded people and become more involved. Other than that I have a large cross stitch project that I am almost done with so I’ll work on it. Shrimp and grits for dinner Saturday night. Need to pull a bunch of weeds in the cutting gardens and my peony bed. Old lady stuff.

Bunch of errands Saturday. Farmers market is well into the spring crops, so should be some good stuff on offer. Sunday, absolutely nothing if I can manage it.

MrsRev mentioned HandsOff rallies on Saturday as something to do. Sunday, we’ll worship at St. John’s UCC. We’ll also get in our steps and MrsRev will read the book for her bookclub. Tomorrow would have been my dad’s 105th birthday. He’s been gone 24 years.

Will be meeting with friends this Saturday.
I also got an air fryer from Costco this week. It heats up frozen french fries and Kirkland egg bites a treat. Still learning what else I can make in it.

Day off tomorrow: niece is in town and we’ll do whatever her tween heart desires during the day, followed by candlepin bowling and pizza that evening. Hands Off rally/march on Saturday, a stop at the Civics Day event at City Hall in the afternoon, and one of my favorite local bands is playing a double set at a nearby pub Saturday night.

the brown conventionally farmed eggs at the frou-frou non-WF chain here are from a regional egg producer. they are $3 less per 18 than the generic white eggs at the big box store

Going to a quilt show in Lynnwood, Washington tomorrow hosted by my local quilt guild. We have 295 members and host a show every other year; this year we have over 200 entries. There was a show in Monroe, WA at the fairgrounds two weeks ago, and that guild has more than 400 members. It was a big show. Not everyone submits a quilt but most enter at least 2.
There are quilt guilds all over the US, something I didn’t know before I joined this one, Stray Threads.
The weather is supposed to be very nice here tomorrow, so the afternoon will find us working in the garden, attacking the berry vines, digging out buttercup, and maybe even planting some dahlias that were a birthday gift.
mvr
@GB in the HC: That should be a good show!

Dog-sit! Plus gardening. Managed to finish the dogwood prune today (there are 10 though) so drat! nothing but weeding left.

Protesting in Salt Lake City, and hoping to drag some friends along, too. I’m still trying to think about what to put on my sign, though.
I was thinking having “Do Not Obey In Advance” on one side, and a “Hands Off” and a list (Social Safety Net, Tariffs, Trans People, LGBTQ People, Immigrants, Books, Schools, Museums, Libraries). But the list is so freaking long already… Not sure it’ll fit well on the poster board I got.
My mom and aunt are going to protest in Amarillo. They figure that they’ll be tens of people strong, but they need to show people that you can protest

Saturday noon is the County Dem Party elections, at which we will attempt not to volunteer for anything…
2pm is the HandsOff rally in Knoxville, followed by a meetup in a bar.
Sunday is recuperating, probably. Hopefully not going down into middle TN to assist ex-step-daughter-in-law with her driveway, which washed away yesterday.

@Ceci7: Not sure anyone outside New England knows what candlepin bowling is.

Protest rally on the Capitol grounds on Saturday, meeting MM there.
Then working on guitars and other gear in support of Girls Rock Denver on Sunday. Me and my wife are the new gear people. Covid almost killed this group in terms of being able to put on camp each year and the gear situation is a mess.

Seeds i started indoors are sprouting, when im back in town ill check what they are and decide if i need to thin. I think they are snapdragons.

On Saturday I’m going to a Hands Off protest at 11 a.m. located near a county government center about 15 minutes from my house. I live in a very red county, so I was extra happy to know there is an event in my area. The local organizer send an email this morning saying, among other things, that at least 300 people have signed up. I heard from a friend that the protest in St. Petersburg (about an hour south of me) expects huge attendance.
There is also an event in the east side of my county. For a county that is deeply red, that is good.
There is another protest about 35 minutes south of me at 4 pm, and I might go to that also.
Sunday is the first session of a year-long online QiGong course by Robert Peng. I’ve signed up for one of his other courses, but I never followed through. I’m terrible at independent study! But I really want to try to follow through on this one. I know about QiGong, but I don’t do it, and I want to change that situation.
I’m also going to get 6-12 addresses for Postcards for Erick Allen in Cobb County, GA. I put 6 in the mail today, and I am going to do one or two more batches of 6 this weekend.
I enjoyed reading what others are doing. Thanks, everyone, for all the replies to this post.

Made my Hands Off sign(s) today. Pro tip, don’t make signs when you’re angry, leads to angry typos. Correct ink for a 2×4 piece of foamboard, permanent markers. Correct whiteout, white house paint from the garage.
Planning to meet with other like-minded people to protest at City Hall on Saturday. Then fish-n-chips, promised to be in the British style. Yum.

@Timill: You have to be present at some organizations in order to not be nominated by someone else. I made the mistake of answering the phone recently, and now I’m the Communications Director. Doesn’t start until May, and I’m a little panicky because I don’t know how this works yet but I have the phone number of someone who does know how it works.

Native plant convention and…..my air conditioner isn’t working. This weekend supposed to be in the 90’s. My car air has also quit. Leak detector kit on the way. I was trying to get thing ready for a trip next weekend to see wildflowers that my sister planned and trying to get my mothers weeding done before it gets too hot. The previous weekends had been helping my aunt who can’t bend over any more. Each early spring I try to get both their gardens in shape weeded and mulched before the heat hits. I also have a sleep study scheduled….too much is happening.

I’ll be attending the protest to be held from 12 to 2 at the Capitol in Harrisburg. Not much for making signs, so I’ll be carrying a small Ukrainian flag.

There are protests all across the country. Show up. It’s fun. It’s better than watching the stock trends. Really.

I just checked, the protest here has been moved to April 12 due to severe weather. Unfortunately my cousin and his wife are in town from Chattanooga that day.

Fairly serious hike in foothills park to meet up with a dozen folks for geocaching. We’re going to have the kind of adult adventures which don’t involve 1) intoxication 2) sex 3) risk of death or permanent injury; but which do involve 1) bushwhacking 2) finding “treasure” 3) lots of smiles. And sunny weather. Perfect!

I’ll be gardening in the morning, protest starts at 5 here in central Oregon. I have a graphic arts pro who volunteered to make signs for my husband and I.

Hands Off protest in my town on Saturday afternoon of course. Will be making sesame noodles for a plant-based potluck at church on Sunday in honor of Earth Day. Beyond the weekend, we will be going to Apollo’s Fire’s performance of the Bach B minor mass at the wonderful Gothic Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland on Tuesday. Good few days, respite from the madness.

Found a protest that is closer (walking distance) and not downtown. I won’t have any signs, but I will likely show up. And I need to make a whole lot of beans to replenish my stores. Maybe bake something (crackers and granola with sourdough discard).

This weekend I’ll be getting soaking wet at Saturday’s protest — I have a raincoat but I’m expecting my feet to be water logged after two hours of rallying — and spending Sunday chugging ibuprofen because that is too much consecutive standing for my back.
And I’ll be feeling nostalgic for the anti-Trump rally four years ago in the same park. I went to that one with a friend who is now in memory care.
Sandia Blanca
We’re going to the Hands Off rally Saturday at the Texas Capitol. My sign slogans are: 1. Hands Off Our Rights!, and 2. The power of the people is greater than the people in power. The second one is from Cory Booker’s speech. We’re supposed to get storms tomorrow night through Saturday morning, so I hope they’re done before the rally starts at 2 p.m.

I’d be going to Saturday protests but I’m off to a cancer conference that day, plus my stamina is shot now with a new fun disease. Getting old sucks if you don’t have your health.

A high school classmate that I re-connected with on FB has a terminal diagnosis and is visiting our hometown. I only live 100 miles away and other classmates have organized a breakfast to get together, so there I go.
On Sunday I am going to run one of the dogs in a local agility trial run by a toy breed club. My guys are not toys, but make the size cut. All the obstacles are shrunk, so it should be interesting and fun.

Late to the party, but gigging with the country band tonight (Philly Brewing Co, 8-10 if you’re in Philly), practice with the rock band Friday, recording with the country band Sunday, and getting a 6 mile run in there somewhere…

Spending Saturday driving around CT to family then a Celebration of Life for a former colleague. Since I’ll be towing my son around i won’t be able to participate in any of the protests we’ll pass. Honking in solidarity, I guess. Sunday is try to keep the child busy and active before Special Olympics.
The big challenge is keeping my sanity as we go through the weekend with my son unmedicated. His old adhd medication is unavailable at present. We’ve driven around CT, to Mass, RI, and NY since September and now it’s gone with a vague “maybe by the middle of the year” availability date. Found for preauthorization for 3 weeks on a new drug and won the 2nd appeal yesterday. Now we wait and pray for the pharmacy to get it in. Convincing insurance company that the kid can’t swallow an oral medication, really and for true, was the biggest fight. Not looking forward to him being without his patch, or any patch, for likely 4 days!

Saturday protest (local, not trekking to DC), fence painting (weather permitting) and lasagne making. On Sunday our choir is has three pieces prepared – a Brahms, a Bruckner, and a modern spiritual – with the theme of going home. There’s also an afternoon service of reconciliation for the times, but I may miss that because it’s #2 grandson’s birthday.
I can’t avoid the headlines because I’m living them. I am allegedly on leave this week, but I’ve had to do work to prepare for unnecessary contract cuts. Colleagues have been texting and sending message of concern. I’m still employed, but they’ve torn the heart of our infrastructure at the NIH, as well as eliminating programs and key leaders. I was asked if I wanted to speak at our local rally but don’t want to be too visible; now I’m wondering if what they say about allowing free speech is true. LOL

I’ll be on a bus tomorrow morning with a bunch of Calvert County Democrats on our way into DC. Rumor is something’s going on there.
Today I’ll be making signs.

This weekend involves preparations to leave the Free World and return to the United States. I probably won’t be in a condition to attend protests while I’m there, but my heart will be there in spirit.
Now I just have to wonder what to do if my passage through passport control and customs brings me across the path of the Script-Kiddie Stasi.

I’m leading a hike for Nashville Hiking Meetup to a very scenic spot on the Obed Wild and Scenic Rivers in Lancing, TN.
And then we go 1/4 to Lilly Pad Hopyard and Brewery–the coolest brewery in the world.
Sadly, there is also a Banana Pudding Festival but I’ve done this hike every year for 15 years and the place where we will have a post-hike supper will have banana pudding. Woohoo.

Younger daughter and her fiance are coming in for an open house (not a shower) and then bridesmaid and mother of the bride dress shopping on Sunday because both girls are getting married this year and are maids of honor for each other. Then she works in the DC office of her firm during the week and Passover the following weekend. I’m psyched

Hands-Off protest, although my sign design failed review for clarity… because I tried to make the message cover multiple topics. I’ll probably just paint a pair of hands with a red slash through them.
