It used to be that I could check Weather Underground and maybe 1 time out of 10 or 20 there would be some sort of active weather WATCH. High winds, tornado, flooding, etc.
Now it seems like every other day. Today it’s a flood watch. Global warming, or the universe saying fuck it, everything else is fucked up, let’s do that with the weather, too?
The weather here does not look good for the protest events tomorrow.

Speaking of the Friday Night Music Thread that went up on Wednesday, I didn’t get to participate because, you know, wrong day and everything, but I really appreciated all the links and suggestions. Will be checking them out this weekend.

Good evenin’, y’all.

@WaterGirl:
I used to do something I called “Drunk Saturday Memes & Music” on the neighborhood WhatsApp group.
Posted links to whatever Youtube videos happened to tickle my fancy. Sometimes it followed a theme.
Most of the music was R&B, country, Top 40, pop, etc, from the 60s-90s. I figured most of the folks in my subdivision weren’t as musically eclectic as am I.
I stopped doing it after the election. Just kinda hard to be neighborly with folks I know (or have strong suspicions) voted for the current shit we’re dealing with.

Eh, welcome to April. That people have been showing up at all — and they have been! — is a clear indication of how much unrest there is. Show up, get counted, warmer weather is coming.
Still very unsettled in Philly. Rain, or not, or yeah, or maybe, or not, or a little, or maybe not, or …

We currently have river flood watches and a tornado watch in Memphis. I mentioned earlier that the protest was postponed to next week due to weather, and I saw on the local news that there was massive flooding just a few blocks away from the protest location, a place that I have never seen flood.
We have gotten 6.9 inches of rain since Wednesday night, 4-6 inches expected tomorrow.

@Nukular Biskits: I had not seen that quote. When was that from?

@Nukular Biskits: FYI, in case you’ve never seen Al Gore’s house in Belle Meade, it has a shitload of solar panels, so this was always a typical right wing lie.
ironically, he lived almost across the street from Bill Frist.
NB: the only time it is acceptable to type “Frist” on this blog is when making a substantive reference to the former senator.

Almost 90 degrees here in Durham. In April. I used to look in fleece. I still look OK in fleece. I can’t do more than 80 degrees in fleece. Cmon man, we only had 8 months of cool weather, we’re going to have to settle for 6 now?

We finally have warm sunny spring weather. It should be sunny and mid-70s for the Hands Off rallies and marches here in NorCal.
California was headed for a drought season when suddenly our typical cold and wet winter weather made a late appearance in February and March. Yeah, the climate, it is definitely changing.
But good news for us, Calif. snowpack hits milestone not seen in 25 years
That milestone is three consecutive years of average or above average snowpack.

Catching up on news: seems that both Erik and orange one slipped and posted that tariffs are open to negotiation. Erik said the be first and get a good deal, last is for losers; it wasn’t really about tariffs it was about being a mob style shakedown.
New Deal democrat
Giving the devil his due, how many people can say they singlehandedly caused a market crash (S&P 500 down over 10% in 2 days) and brought about a U.S. and probably global recession, huh?
Exactly 1: Donald J. Trump. World record baby!
(The S&P 500 is now down YoY. That plus a 10% or more increase in jobless claims has been a historically accurate indicator of a recession)

Interesting piece about how the tariffs don’t make Trump a working class hero.

Record rainfall in Outback Queensland. 150,000 head of livestock lost. In South Australia Lake Eyre (think Bonneville Salt Flats but way bigger) is flooded for first time 15 years. Iconic Gold Coast beaches ravaged by storm surges. Nothing to see here.

@New Deal democrat: I’ve been keeping track. If I hadn’t gotten out of stocks in December, I’d have lost $67K in my TSP account as of today. I can’t afford a Republican president, and I don’t think 99% of Americans can, either.

OT I finally figured out how to send pictures with texts on my flip phone. It was easy on the last one. More convoluted on this one but it can de done.
I have a picture of the satby rescue girl Echo standing on the top tier of her new cat tree and looking out the window.
I have a picture of the box the new cat tree came in after other cats carved a door in the box so they could see what was inside. (I kid you not. They actually clawed out a door. Not tore a hole, created a door instead. With a cardboard door flap.
ETA So finally, six months after the adoption, the daughter who contacted satby’s rescue to get these sweet little guys a new home will have some proof of life
ETA Echo loves her new cat tree by the window.

Perfect weather in Seattle on Saturday, 67° and sunny. The Jet Stream is out of whack. It’s currently heading due south along the west coast then east over Phoenix then north over the upper Midwest. This was predicted by global warming since the Arctic is warming faster than the mid latitudes so there’s less temperature difference and the Jet Stream weakens allowing Arctic air to go far to the south.

It used to be that I could check Weather Underground when I worked for a doggy daycare and they would be extremely accurate hour by hour about whether it was going to rain specifically where we were. It was that good. I seriously doubt that will be true going forward after all the underlying data they rely on was gutted.

I’m doing a two-fer rally tomorrow. Noon at the suburban South Bay rally within walking distance from my house – and then the much more raucous affair in downtown Los Angeles at 4:00. Insofar as I am somewhat old and somewhat of a chickenshit, I will leave the LA rally before dark.

@SpaceUnit: Laughing. You may have missed the post that went up on Wednesday titled Friday Night Music Thread.

Well, damnation.
Mom received an e-mail from Verizon that her router/modem will no longer be receiving tech support after mid-May and she should call an 800 number to arrange for a replacement being sent to swap.
Does not mean it will stop working, just that any support or updates will cease.
She has trouble dealing with stuff like this on the phone so asked me to call and go through the telephone tree dance to reach a live person.
Tech guy I spoke with couldn’t have been more polite, but eventually said the new router they’d send out would cost her (brace yourself) $399.99. Say what now? Thanks but no thanks.
Kee-rist on a cracker, you’re the ones making your own unit obsolete, a replacement ought to be had at no or absolute rock bottom charge.
If push comes to shove, when visiting this summer I’ll purchase a new compatible unit for her and install it myself.

@NotMax:
What!. Yeah aren’t new routers like maybe $50?

They Call Me Noni
Here in southern Indiana (about 15 miles from Louisville) we have had rain and thunderstorms since Sunday. We live in a rural area and there are two ways to get to main roads (that I know of) and both are under water so it doesn’t look like getting out to protest is possible for me as my car is pretty low to the ground. I bought supplies for making signs, which I haven’t made yet, so I will keep an eye out for the next opportunity.

It came along with the service. Whether there was an initial charge I don’t know.
In fact this current unit was a replacement upgrade to swap out sent her only a few years ago. Verizon at that time even included a prepaid UPS carton to send the original device back.

@eclare: That’s so much rain! We had big floods in Denver one year, when we got 11-12+ inches in 36 hours. The whole front range flooded, people’s houses in boulder, farms out east of Loveland. It’s rare here, it hardly ever rains, but we know what that is. Good luck! Holy moly.
