Sometimes being an only child sucks. I’ve got 2 parents and a stepparent, and two aunts and two uncles who didn’t have kids all hitting the heavy medical challenges age and I’m not sure I can be POA to 7 people spread across 5 states. Not there yet, but added another today and I can see all but one of the rest is close. Starting to appreciate the pragmatism of the ice floe.

I was my father’s legal guardian for two years, but never got a POA/Medical POA because he was lucid when a doctor talked to him (he “only” had no short term memory at all).
He was in Florida and I in Washington state. We were not close, never had been, but he had alienated everyone else in the family.
After 2+ years, flying to Florida two, three times a year, with no real authority, I just couldn’t do it anymore and signed him over to a professional guardianship organization.
It’s something you might want to look into. See, in particular, how much oversight/input you would still have; if, for example, you would still be able to make the final decisions but could rely on them for implementation.
