There’s an Ohio Meet-up in the works!

Planning for the long-awaited all-Ohio meet-up is underway. Columbus Queen and Ohio Mom are planning at a midday meeting in Columbus on Saturday, May 17.  (Midday can be loosely thought of as lunchtime-ish)

Columbus Queen is looking at Plank’s Bier Garden at the corner of Whittier & South High Streets in German Village south of downtown.

It’s easy to find, offers drinks as well as food, and has a covered patio and decent-sized parking lot.

Ohio Jackals, please let us know if you’ll be able to join us. If too many of you have prior commitments for that day, we can consider an alternate date.

    Is Plank’s the restaurant with the cream puffs the size of your head? I haven’t lived in Columbus since the early 90s but I still remember the cream puffs fondly.

    I kind of don’t want spousal unit to come. He is a sweet guy but very argumentative on his opinions. We shriek at each other every night over trivia where we are basically on the same side. Normal people might be offput. Also too he has a very bad back and we often have to leave early because he is in such pain. Bitchy of me but if he came and we had to leave early I would be very very angry. Told him that. But he wants to come. He reads the blog but not the comments, so I don’t know if he qualifies as a lurker.

    This might be amazing. Ohio is a big state, the size of European countries. So meet-ups are hard because we are all many hours away from each other. Cleveland to Akron is almost an hour. Akron to Columbus is two hours.  Akron to Cincinnati is a lot, well over three hours.

    My daughter lived in German Village when she went to grad school at a large university in the area. Because of this, I know it’s a 14 hour drive, so I have to decline.

    @sab: He feels like and I agree that BJ is the other woman. People I talk to that he doesn’t know about. But him not knowing about is his choice. Everything BJ is online. Worried what he thought was okay might not be. I know him and this is a stupid concern, but as a long time wife one never knows

    ETA Just saying he wants to come but I have my doubts. I always have doubts and they never pan out, Family laughs at me.

    @sab I don’t think we’ve set a start time yet but come after the meet-up has been in swing for an hour. That way, if you do have to leave early, you’ve been there at the meet-up’s high point.

    And I wouldn’t worry about a contrary spouse, none of us are exactly shrinking violets.

    Have been to 3 or 4  BJ get togethers over the years and if you haven’t they are fun and different.

    Always pick a place that can hold at least a few people and which will let you stay for a bit of time because they are never short time events. And they are fun because you get to see the faces behind the names at the top/front of a comment. And vocal is different than typing. HAVE FUN

    And Ohio is a hoot, I worked in Columbus and lived in Gahanna for a decade a while ago.

    Darn just read about this in an active thread so went looking. I NEVER have anything to do on Saturdays but that day is a graduation party for a great nephew AND it’s my SIL’s birthday. I’m considering just sending my husband to the grad party (it’s at noon of course!). So maybe?
