Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

My Second Favorite Thing About Easter

This is my second favorite thing about Easter – getting to listen to this again, as I do every year, and getting to laugh as if it were the first time.

This being Balloon Juice, I imagine there will be speculation about my favorite Easter thing.

I used to be allergic to eggs. Breaking out in hives allergic. I outgrew that, but I am still wary of eggs.

I grew up in Florida with Ohio parents. Gorgeous weather on Easter was an actual article of Faith to me (children think stupid things). When we moved to Ohio when I was twelve and it rained on our first Easter I was horrified.

I think I dodged a religious nutcase bullet when we moved back north.

@sab: I just decided I will not host Step-mother’s Day, which was a truncated Mother’s  Day for our adopted kid who’s actual mother is dead. She and the boys have different mothers. I am the step-mother. They wanna do something then do it. I will turn up if required but I will not organize.

Our family is complicated but the kids are okay so it mostly works out. I only wanted to do Mother’s Day for her, since I am the closest to a living mom that she has. If she wants to include her brothers then I am step-mom again. Honorable role so I am fine with that.

      @wmd: Good call.

Maybe 20 years ago, I got to see David Sedaris perform in Lawrence KS. Afterwards, he sat for hours meeting fans and signing books. He signed my copy of Me Talk Pretty One Day, complete with a rusty trombone because it was a joke in the performance. I will always treasure that moment. Jesus Shaves and Six to Eight Black Men should be holiday traditions.
