Update:  Ask and we shall receive.  Wowser, big thanks to the person who fixed this!

h/t BlueGuitarist for the video which had this organize image on a protest sign!

I did the best capture I could, t’s a bit crooked, so if any of you geniuses out there could fix that, I would appreciate it!

Sorry I kind of fell off the map for couple of days; big project for one of my clients this week.

Happy to say that we have a DOUBLE external match for the next $12,500 in donations.  And right now we have the second half of PatrickG’s Angel Match.  And right after that we have one more $1k Angel match waiting in the wings.

So for the next $1,500 in donations up to $50 per person, it’s a 6x match.  PatrickG Angel match is complete.

So for the next $1,000 in donations up to $50 per person, it’s a 6x match.

I’ll do the math so you don’t have to!

$50 donation ($50) + Angel match ($50) = $100.   Add external match #1 ($100) + external match #2 ($100) = $300!

Step right up!

Remember, the fine print.  Angel matches reset each time there’s a new Angel match, so for those who can afford it, if you give $50 to the PatrickG Angel match and another $50 to the upcoming Anonymous Angel match, your $100 turns into $600!  Pretty hard to beat that, if you have the disposable income, which not all of us do! :-)

Exciting New Effort, With An Eye Toward the PA Supreme Court Retention Election In November

With the Angel match and the external double match,  $50 becomes $300.  (6x)

With just the external double match (without the Angel match) $50 becomes $150.  (3x)

To be Angel matched, tell us about your donation in the comments or by email to me.

Let’s get this done before while ActBlue is still here

*If any attorneys – or anyone else more knowledgable about this than I am – can weigh in on how Trump can possibly shut down ActBlue, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Heading out to run an errand, back soon.

edit: Well, that was fast. Go about 1.5 miles from home and had to turn around. The Illinois Marathon is happening this morning, and they have a ton of streets closed off. It’s pretty cold, 47 degrees this morning, but maybe that’s good if you’re running a marathon?

The PA Supreme Court needs as many NEW DEMS as possible.  I could, and someday will, elaborate, but retention just for the sake of retention might not be in the best interests of those who believe in the natural goals of justice. Each judge needs to be considered individually, beyond their label.

      Thanks for the matchy, matchy.

Voter registration is so very important.  And the state courts are obviously essential to fighting the monsters.

      Forward!

@BellyCat: In this case, I believe that even one of these judges not being retained would shift the balance.

A retention election isn’t one where a “better” democrat runs against an existing one.

In my opinion, that’s just a risk not worth taking for a purity test or to get rid of a Democratic Justice that we might not care for or don’t agree with.

And it’s PA, which is not reliably Democratic.  Now is not the time to risk a Republican SC in PA

Just my considered opinion.  Please feel free to explain why you think I’m wrong.

@WaterGirl: You’re not “wrong”, per se. I held my nose last time this issue arose and voted for retention.

But…. There are some deep structural problems with the PA judicial system. I may share some insights on this with you (via email) if/when I get a chance. As a teaser, the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) has a list of 16 duties which are in the public interests. Here is #15: “To provide to personnel of the system legal services and, when appropriate, representation by legal counsel.”

An attorney I know, who clerked for SCOPA for five years, said that this is a clear conflict of interest, at odds with public interests. Guess which of the 15 duties the AOPC takes most serious?

More  later (maybe). I will possibly (likely) have a matter before SCOPA in the next few months, so I need to reflect on public disclosure right now. But very troubling judicial issues are involved and, oddly, they involve due process issues, writ large.

ETA: The ONLY way to report an operational concern about a Court of Common Pleas (which is overseen by the AOPC) is to report the concern to the AOPC. You can probably do the math about “who guards the guards”…
