Nah. Going to bed and reading about it in the morning.

Real nail-biter of an NBA game going on.

Nope. I’m getting tiiiiiired and will not be staying up.
The way circadian rhythms change as we age is so weird.
Dorothy A. Winsor
My trivia team won tonight! We were shocked.

Could be a while. I understand that the results have to be delivered to parliament by a Royal Mountie riding on the back of a moose while singing Ahead By a Century and stopping at every Tim Horton’s along the way to ring their ceremonial election bell.
NotMax
@Dorothy A. Winsor
Huzzah! Will be raising a glass to toast your victory tonight.
mrmoshpotato
@Gin & Tonic: (checks score) LOL!
mrmoshpotato
@SpaceUnit:
And buying some Timbits!

@Dorothy A. Winsor: In the words of Bruce from Finding Nemo, “GOOD ON YA, MATE!”
SpaceUnit
@mrmoshpotato:
At least once in the past both the mountie and election results were eaten by a bear and they had to do the whole election over again.
mrmoshpotato
@SpaceUnit: I don’t know if you’re lying.
prostratedragon
@Dorothy A. Winsor: Yaaay!
Steve
The polls are already closed in Ontario and Quebec, and we often know the general result an hour after they close. Then when the polls close here in BC, we find out what happened.
Even if Poilevre wins, Trump’s noisemaking has forced him to commit to never being the 51st state.
Jay
@mrmoshpotato:
It wasn’t a Bear, it was a Cougar. The Mounties should never have sent out an Officer under 30 years of age.

JC, not sure if you are en route or home, crap, home. I was checked out of media and commentary for outrage fatigue. I am treating the symptoms. I appreciated your post on mental health and self care and wanted to say it.
May the wind be swift at your back if you are not already back at the house in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia!
We will expect a full garden, squirrel, bird’s nest, willow and mustard report soon.

@mrmoshpotato
Best donut tuneage.
;)
@SpaceUnit
Did someone say Royal Mounties?
;)
WTFGhost
@SpaceUnit: Election results are delivered faster, now that the election bell is no longer at an establishment that serves beer, though the moose are getting a bit stronger, because who can resist a refill of timbits, and even a moose has carrying limits!
WTFGhost
@SpaceUnit: Twice. The first time, the mountie was eaten by the bear, but the election results couldn’t be trusted, after the election official got bitten by the critter, and were thereby caught out bear-assed, and… well, anyway, then the second time, the election results were eaten, which is strange, it’s almost like they were soaked in bear attractant.
SpaceUnit
@NotMax:
Okay, I only listened for about thirty seconds.
Terrified of what that’s going to do to my YouTube algorithm.
Princess
Quebec seems to be pulling through.
NotMax
@WTFGhost
Kind of a shame that Canadian car and truck engines aren’t rated in moosepower.
:)

@Pennsylvanian: great comment! I believe he is still in AZ, leaving in a few days.

These poor, backwards, third world countries.
Glad I live in the USA where election results are quickly tabulated by state-of-the-art computer technology and then disputed with bloody, violent riots at our nation’s capitol.
hitchhiker
@Princess: I don’t know what that means. What was expected from Quebec?
Jay
Current results, Liberals, 129, Cons, 90, BQ, 16, NDP, 2.
Leading.
Princess
@hitchhiker: sorry! Quebec seems to be going hard for the Liberals. Bloc is doing as badly as expected and I think Cons are doing there worse too.
Trivia Man
@Dorothy A. Winsor: congrats
Today i finished writing 10 questions for our next team meeting at work. Apparently they enjoyed the last one so im back.
Princess
CBC just called it – Liberal government. At least a minority.
Jay
@hitchhiker:
Bloc is standing up for Canada. Con areas are going Liberal.
Chetan Murthy
@Jay: Are you saying that in Con areas, BQ are voting Liberal — tactical voting ? If so, that’s great!
Jay
@Chetan Murthy:
Looks that way.
mrmoshpotato
DAMN SON! The Cavs WANG CHUNGED the Heat in the face!
DAAAAAMN!
hitchhiker
@Princess: Thanks. And thanks, Canada, for a hopeful election night.
Eric S.
@Gin & Tonic: LOLOLOL
Eric S.
@Dorothy A. Winsor: Congrats! You’re in the Chicago area if I’m not mistaken. Where do you play. I played at D’Agastino’s near Wrigley for a long time.
NotMax
@Jay
Not quite a blowout along the lines of the election under PM Kim Campbell, which (IIRC) whittled down the Conservatives from 169 seats to a grand total of 2.
mrmoshpotato
@Eric S.: Oh man. Great restaurant. Finally went there last August after years of passing it.
Jay
@NotMax:
Between Wexit, Covid, Truckers, social media, never going to see that again.
Keep in mind, the Con’s were attacked by Reeeeeeform! and Kim Campbell was a girl, (woman).
Eric S.
@mrmoshpotato: I’ll pass that along to Mr. D’Agastino. A good friend of mine married Mrs. D’Agastino’s BFF from HS.
Seriously, I’m glad you liked it. It’s a long time staple and they are good neighbors.

Why is a convicted felon hosting a show with Chef Saint Andrés?
NotMax
@NotMax
Addendum in that election Campbell was voted out of Parliament in her district.
Jay
@mrmoshpotato: Snark tag is missing.
PsiFighter37
Probably the best possible outcome from a schadenfreude perspective. Pierre Poilievre has been a career politician (literally – from his early 20s); he has less than zero understanding of how anything in the real world gets done. I hope that France takes a lesson from this and does not elect a similar young person (Jordan Bardella) who has demonstrated zero talent in doing a real job, and the understanding that comes with it, when the French presidential elections roll around in a couple of years.
mrmoshpotato
@Jay: No. She’s a convicted felon, and he’s a humanitarian saint.

Eolirin
@mrmoshpotato: Not knowing who you’re talking about, being a convicted felon, past tense, shouldn’t cast a shadow over your entire life going forward. And humanitarian saints are more likely to recognize this.
WTFGhost
@mrmoshpotato: Crud. I wish I’d been watching. Ever since the song, I’ve wondered how, precisely, one “wang chunged” tonight (or any night, really), but it was very hard to find a precise answer, and if you ask it in a charmlessly awkward manner, it sometimes leads to restraining orders, and very embarrassing conversations about the foolishness of discussing pop music lyrics to a young woman with such a charming, and, shall we say, very well CONNECTED Godfather, but, since it ended up being educational (she kept repeating “who knew?” over and over, in a dreamy voice, so I assumed I’d taught her a thing or two), I was let go with a warning, and the need to surrender my extensive “Best of the 80s” collections. I suspect there’s an awkward would-be mafioso in his 50s about to start wondering how, in fact, one might “wang chung” and with whom one might do it, and, apparently, why a basketball team would do it to another team, in the face. But that’s pure speculation, since (ahem) I very GRATEFULLY surrendered it for no dollars cash in hand, and one very valuable consideration, which is to say, I sure did consider them not damaging me to be valuable.
Man. Anyone hoping for Canadian election results might think they’ve hit the twilight zone if I don’t cut this out.
Hm…

@hilts:
BBC has reasonable coverage as well https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cr5d13e4r2rt
Seems 3rd party votes are down – people wanted their vote to count. I find it great that the Liberals won – but frighting as to the influence of trump on the world scene. He is probably going to give Labor (LW) the win in Australia as well when 3 months ago the conservatives had the win at their feet.
Jay
@Eolirin:
Martha Stewart.

@WTFGhost:
Wang chunging is something you do when you really, really want a zig-a-zig-hah.
Jane2
CBC has called it – Liberal victory for the guy Trump calls Prime Minister. Now to see if it’s a minority or majority.
WHEW.
Eolirin
@Jay: Okay, so yeah, extra what I said. That was a clearly politically motivated charge.
Eolirin
@Jane2: Hopefully they can pull out a majority government.
Splitting Image
@Eolirin:
It isn’t looking likely, although I’m hoping that the Liberal vote plus the NDP equals a majority. I don’t trust the Bloc enough to be part of a governing coalition, although drastic situations call for drastic measures.
I’m expecting Poilievre to be memory-holed faster than you can say Michael Dukakis, especially if he loses his seat.
Eolirin
@Splitting Image: Seems like Ontario is fucking stuff up.
Splitting Image
@Eolirin:
Southwestern Ontario has a lot in common with the U.S. states that border it: Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Including the way it votes.
You can’t reason with them, only outvote them.
Pennsylvanian
@WaterGirl: Thank you. I am grateful for the update.
This means hijinks and shenanigans ahead!
Again, best wishes for swift and safe travel. There has been some crazytown storm/tornado/giant hail goings-on in the plains and the Southern US in general. Take heed.

Glad to see the liberals have won.
That will piss Trump off. I suspect Pam Boondi will say that arresting Canadian politicians if they interfere with ICE will also be on the table.
Socolofi
Liberals won, almost certainly a minority (will be some time to sort out the super close ridings). For this blog, doesn’t matter that much – it means Carney has a mandate to stand up to Trump. And he will.
If the gods smile, Poilievre loses his seat in addition to his shot at being a PM. Calls up Dukakis for some advice on what to do after you fuck up this badly.
NDP will likely go *poof* – below 10 seats so not an official party, and Singh likely to lose his seat. Maybe this means Canada can formally go to 2… maybe 3 in Quebec, parties and/or get to ranked choice voting – a bunch of seats in Ontario likely went Conservative because of vote splitting between Liberal and NDP.
Generally speaking, a good day for Canada, and frankly, the world. FDT and #GoOilers!

I love the term ridings. Sounds so much better than districts.
A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan)
@Eolirin: Martha Stewart was convinced and served a prison sentence for (I think) insider trading.
Eolirin
@A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan): I know what happened with Martha Stewart, what I didn’t know was who was being talked about.
A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan)
@Eolirin: It was Martha Stewart who was being talked about. She and Chef Andres have a new show coming on Bravo called “Yes Chef”. I have seen ads for it while watching this season of Top Chef.
Gloria DryGarden
@A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan): yes, insider trading. And why isn’t that accusation being leveled at numerous congress persons and trumpy buddies? Jeepers. The tariff rollercoaster has made some folks a lot of money, while wreaking havoc on markets and international trust…
Steve Finlay
WTF is wrong with Jamil Jiwani? That shit don’t work up here.
eclare
@A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan):
She was convicted of lying to the FBI, obstruction, and conspiracy. The securities fraud charge was dismissed.
Never lie to the FBI. They don’t ask any question that they don’t already know the answer to.
