When in France (the southwest) relax and have a glass of wine.

The backyard of a farmhouse in a tiny village in the southwest – the Perigord – of France.

So inviting!!!

The minimalism of the photo matches the minimalism of the post.
I like it.

Ahhh. Yes!

I’ve been going to this farmhouse (not shown) for more than 20 years. The contrast between where I live – Washington DC – and rural France is, of course, immense. Village life in France is to go back a hundred years or so and forget about horrific traffic and strip malls and waiting for Amazon to deliver junk from America and China (although they will). So, traveling doesn’t have to be just visiting museums and historic landmarks. Find a getaway place somewhere on the planet and just getaway!

We spent several days in the Sarlat area – stayed at Beynac – one year – loved it. It’s my favorite region of France…

Ahhh — I love reading the Bruno books and watching Madame Blanc Mysteries and Murder in Provence and Agathe Koltes and Astrid. Rural France (and Paris) are so inviting. How lovely to have a place you return to over and over. I live in a rural area but alas not in France.
Thank you for this photo.

Photo captures why the French are so snooty. Because they know what matters and how to live.

*A* glass of wine? Philistine!

Now, isn’t that lovely!

Beautiful photo. That’s my kind of outdoor setting.
My goal is to rent a place for a month in either southern France or NW Italy and wander the markets, cook, and eat.
Also use it as a base of operations to travel around The Continent.
