Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Let there be snark.

So Rep Gerry Connolly succumbed to cancer today. Who is going to take his place on his committee now?

@Ramona: From what I’ve read it will likely be Rep. Patrick Lynch of Massachusetts who replaces Connolly as Ranking member. A lot of people want Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett though.

I’m not sure it makes much difference with the Republicans in the majority, since they set the agenda. But the Ranking Member job has acquired a certain amount of symbolic value so we’ll probably hear a lot about this contest.

I’m not clear when this cut to Medicare and food stamps is set to begin.

Should it pass in the full House (iffy at present with the ultra slim GOP majority) it’s most probably DOA in the Senate, who will amend it and kick it back to the House. If (and it’s a BIG if ) something similar then passes both chambers and is signed into law, budget year begins Oct. 1st.

Trump’s recipe for stone soup would definitely rule out any of those socialistic “contributed” additions of vegetables, etc.  Granite with un-fluorinated un-treated water; that’s it.  The stone will cost you; free market pricing to protect you from the woke.

That’s boiled potatoes, isn’t it? With the likelihood of mashed potatoes. Though I guess this new paeleoshittic diet of The Pustule’s would rule out expensive luxuries like salt, butter and, of course, olive oil.

Real patriots could just not wash, of course, and collect their own natural oils in hessian sacks. Plenty of salt in there. And it’s both organic and locally sourced! Checkmate, Libs.

If they are trying to ‘hang on’ after the normal retirement age for working stiffs, they need to be dynamited out. Christ almighty, elected Office isn’t a ‘right’, it’s a privilege granted by the voters supporting the Party that person represents.

No one, and I mean no one, is ‘owed’ the right to continue in elected Office for as long as they feel like running. For a start, such attitudes clog up what should be a pipeline of young and hungry wannabes.

David Hogg was foolish and wrong to run his campaign from a position in the official Democratic Party apparatus. That was/is reprehensible, in my opinion.

But his goals were correct. It is precisely those elected in ‘safe’ seats that need to be turned over. Unless and until a way is found to ensure that there are younger, more capable people willing to step up, elected members being carried out in wheelchairs and pine boxes will continue.

It is positively unseemly to see a political Party in that position, particularly the only US political Party actually committed to liberal democracy.

Sparked memory of the #10 cans of peas in the pantry at the summer camp where I worked. Very large print, in bold, in a box outlined in red on the label reading “Peas do not meet minimum FDA standards.”

Below it in much smaller print was a paragraph reading “Above legend mandatory. Peas actually high quality.”

Coming around to the idea tha 90% of our problem is people these days will believe anything they see on the internet. Couple that with a lot of right wing online influencers while the Dems seem to still want to base campaigns around messaging through traditional media and we have a situation where right wing messaging is 24/7 defining Democrats as only caring about esoteric special interests (trans people, illegal immigrants, etc) and we have a problem.

The Dems are letting the opposition define them except for like 10 months every four years. People are too dumb or distracted to sort the truth from spin about… healthy diets, cooking, medical care and treatment and of course politics.

On the topic of cheap-ass cooking, I sometimes wonder why we associate certain foods with breakfast but not dinner. I do intermittent fasting, and thus don’t do breakfast, but I love breakfast food. I eat oatmeal for dinner a lot. Cook up a couple of cups of steel-cut oats, and it’s at least five meals. Mix with some chopped-up apple or spices or nuts or yogurt….. so good, and cheap AF.
