On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good turnout today—here are some of the sights from Longmont. Cheers to all jackals doing what they can.

Respect to the real kings.

Looks like the weather gods will not smile on us in DC.

Reportedly 15,000 protesters—double what organizers had hoped for—lining a 7-mile route from Palo Alto south to Sunnyvale, here in the Bay Area. Including this feisty 98-year-old grannie:
Tens of thousands in SF, and thousands in both Oakland and Santa Cruz, along with numerous other smaller protests around the Bay.
Hundreds formed a human “No King” banner at Ocean Beach in SF (no paywall).

@Sister Golden Bear: My people in Oakland confirm!

My bride just sent this video of Athens. The speaker is Micheal Thurmond, Athens native and accomplished Civil Rights Attorney.

@Baud: There are some thunderstorms to the west, but the persistent DC high is fighting them off at the moment. Maybe they’ll arrive in time to wash-out the fireworks (starting at 9:45 PM EDT).
Best wishes,
Scott.

Protestors as far as the eye can see in SoCal. Both sides of the street for blocks and blocks. My favorite moment so far was when a guy driving a flat bed tow truck blew his horn repeatedly and gave us a big thumbs up. A thousand cheers and laughter. On the back of his tow truck was a broken down Cybertruck.

@Another Scott:
Based on the forecast, that’s looking likely. Thunderstorms forecast from 8 pm to 11 pm. 100% chance at 9 pm and 99% at 10 pm

Great signs.
I had Franklin’s “A Republic, if you can keep it” on my sign.
I just came across this little story about Franklin on Dick Nixon’s bsky thing:
History turns on seemingly little things, things that include personalities and personal ideas of honor and fairness.
(I recently was reminded that most of the “founding fathers” were young men. (I haven’t checked these numbers myself, but they satisfy my truthiness sensor:)
I think and believe that there were attendees today who will take what they saw and heard and experienced today about truth and fairness and respect and self-government and turn it into a lifelong calling.
Forward!!
Best wishes,
Scott.

@WaterGirl: The Elvises were awesome. Someone shared a little video from Main Street here: https://imgur.com/a/no-kings-longmont-colorado-qhj5YzA
I appreciate all the reports from everyone today!

@Burrowing Owl: Nice video!

Good rally in our little town of Erie. First time I’ve ever seen a rally here, actually, and we were having a good time despite the 95F heat. Flag-waving, thumbs-up motorists honking, chants of “No Kings!”, and lots of friendly folks.

I just got home from the San Francisco march. On the way there, all the Muni underground trains were packed with people going to the protest, holding signs or wearing anti-trump shirts; several of us had to take trains inbound several stops to find a train back outbound that we could squeeze onto. At Dolores Park, where the march began, I started to be disappointed at the crowd size — until I looked up and down Dolores Street. THAT’s where the crowd was, and it extended at least 4 blocks in both directions along Dolores Street which is four lanes wide. I could not see where the crowd ended — I’m short, and I was in the middle and could not see much beyond my immediate surroundings. There were so many people that the walk from Dolores Park to the Civic Center Plaza, which is usually about half an hour, took an hour and a half. I was too far away in the park to hear any speeches, and the Civic Center Plaza was full by the time I got there, so if there were speakers there, I missed them.
The crowd was — estimate only — about 2/3 white people and 1/3 Hispanics, with a few African-Americans . Wide range of ages — young people, families with children, and olds like me (I’m 69). There were several elderlies using walkers and canes, and I saw at least 5 people in wheelchairs.
I did not see any violence from anyone. There were some police around, but they were just watching and also blocking off side streets.
I did see a lot of people with high-quality cameras taking pictures. Don’t know who they were but whenever I passed a camera, or any police, I waved my little American flag, smiled, and took off my sunglasses. I’m an American citizen, I have a right to protest, and — apparently unlike some ICE personnel — I’m not afraid for people to see my face when I’m doing it.
The weather was kind to us — clear, sunny but cool, good walking weather.
