Update: I mixed up the images from another protest. Click below for the No Kings post with the correct images from AM in NC.
AM in NC – NO KINGS – Durham, NC (with the Durham Images this time!)
Here are some photos from Durham, NC.
Crowd estimates I saw put the number of people around 5,000!
It was a happy, joyful day full of solidarity and protesters of all ages.

Who would Jesus deport? Love that sign!

I don’t know if it was CBS or ABC I was listening to but they said there were 5 million No Kings protesters throughout the country. I’ve seen extrapolations of around 7 million. I’ve seen estimates of 11 million. I honestly think 11 million would be closer to the real number. There were several small towns in Arizona that had decent turnouts. That’s in addition to big turnouts in several metro Phoenix spots and Tucson. NYC, LA, Chicago and Philly should easily be a million. There were decent sized crowds in Fairbanks and Anchorage for crying out loud.

@Mai Naem mobile: my wife and I think that any count will be undercounted . To whit, in our little NK event in Williamsville NY, there were a substantial number of cars driving by that were very supportive. OK, the cars weren’t, but their drivers and passengers were. How are these drive-bys accounted for?

“No FU – KING”. Nice.
I’ve seen some Indivisible threads say they hit 11 million but what they’re basing that on, no clue. They were shooting for 12 million (that I didn’t know nor can confirm).

Interesting I went to the No Kings protest in downtown Durham, where was this one?

@Baud: You are so right!

Where in Durham are these photos? I went to the downtown rally and then march to our so called Central Park area.

And it was really hot and humid in Durham.

@Mai Naem mobile: The 3.5% threshold from Erica Chenoweth is 11 million for the US population, and 8 3/4 million for the voting age (>18) population. These estimates are close. We need to sustain it and get a few of our supporters out of their cars!

I was there too. My lame last minute sign said “Pro-Science, Anti-Kings”. Got to sing some.
The crowd was HUGE. Anita Earls was VERY impressive.
Dunno how many they got in Chapel Hill.
Suzanne
@Mai Naem mobile: I saw that Chandler had one! WTG ostriches! LOL!!!

Good sign

OT. This gave me a good chuckle.

Thanks for all the pictures. It’s quite inspiring.
I’m seeing more stories appearing in news sites I monitor. Here’s the latest from the VirginiaMercury.com
The first photo – The presidential seal is over-the-top huge. Just comically so.
Grr…
The soldiers on the right seem to be intentionally not doing their rest stuff properly (especially compared to most of the guys on the left).
I enjoyed the various digs (as I read it) in the text:
This short training video shows that those arguing that the Army likely was expressing displeasure with having to be at 47’s stupid politicized Dear Leader birthday parade may be on to something. They know how to stand and march and do the other things.
Best wishes,
Scott.

Who marched better, the US Army at the Parade, or Pikachu’s?

Best wishes,

My ex-coasty husband thinks they haven’t marched since basic training. I think that’s nuts. I am a believer in malicious compliance.

@Steve Holmes: I think WaterGirl posted the wrong photos under my nym.
Next Durham protest, we should to a Balloon Juice meet up-looks like there’s at least a handful of us who went!

@Steve Holmes: @dc:
You guys are correct, these images weren’t from Durham – mixed up the images from another No Kings event. Posting the correct images here.
