On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
WG, Largely gonna plagiarize what I posted on Bluesky here. I’ll defer to your editorial judgment as to how they should be presented and how (or if) to distribute the commentary. IOW, you have full editorial control! LOL!
I don’t have a good pic to show crowd size as I was doing a lot of talking to folks and my sign was rather large, making it difficult to hold and snap photos.
One more thing: I didn’t include a photo of myself wearing the “Trump Ra_ist (with a young girl of color swapping out the letters “C” and “P”) T-shirt (Cole has one as well) nor a photo of my sign. I figured this was about the protests, the crowds and the energy, not about a grumpy old man. If you’d rather use that in place of the drone photo (which I’m not sure adds that much to the story), lemme know & I’ll email it to you.

[For the “Crowd# photos]:
I attended/participated in the No Kings protest in Gulfport, MS, yesterday. Ours was held from 0900-1100, which was a good call on the part of organizers as it got hellishly hot (temps running around 95 when I left, which meant the heat index was probably somewhere in the triple-digits). Plus, thunderstorms started rolling in after lunch.
Great event. LOTS of people from all walks of life: Old. Young. White. Black. Brown. Purple (just kidding), straight, LGBTQ+, etc.
The point here is that there are a LOT of pissed off Mississippians … and the Republicans in this state are either too far up Trump’s ass to admit it or they just plain are too arrogant to listen to the people.
Rally was held at Federal Courthouse grounds in Gulfport. Afterwards, walked to bridge over Hwy 90 and then onto Jones Park and Hwy 90 itself.
LOTSA honking & waving from drivers/passengers driving by.
[For the drone photo]:
Someone had a drone flying overhead … not sure if it was local media or the fucking losers (more on that in a second) across the street.
It never crossed the street to my knowledge.
[For the losers photo]:
And now the fucking losers.
There were a few assholes who drove by (in trucks, of course) and flipped us off.
MAGA had four representatives there on the other side of the street. Every I couldn’t hear them most of the time because they were drowned out by chants of “NO KINGS!”
[For the small-penis guy photo]:
The asshat in yellow-green shirt was packing heat.
Most of the protesters heeded the advice of organizers to not engage. A few crossed over to the assholes’ side of the street standing to either side of the brave MAGAs. The asshole w/ the gun threatened to pull his gun out. Several protesters notified the law enforcement who were nearby.
[For the po-po visit photo]:
Gulfport’s finest came and had a talk with the brave MAGA patriot … and he was strangely quiet after that. <snicker>

Photo of drone … not sure to whom it belonged.

Trump losers. No further description required.

Trump supporter compensating for small penis.

Law enforcement has nice chat with Trump supporters about threatening protesters.

On the bridge overlooking Hwy 90.

That’s always been my reaction to these open-carry idiots walking into a grocery store with an AR-15 slung over their shoulders or something — Why would you want to telegraph to the whole world that you have deep-seated anxieties about your genital dimensions?

@jonas:
Something else I didn’t think to mention in either my Bluesky posts or in what I sent to Watergirl:
When the ammosexual was asked why he felt it necessary to bring a firearm to the protest, he claimed it was to help protect the cops.
Disclosure: I did not personally hear him say that but several of the protesters who were originally on his side of the street attested to it.

Scenes from No Kings day in Lansing, Michigan.
I case anybody missed it in the earlier thread.

Great pics.

Thank you for posting these. I am in Meridian and have been seeing the pictures on the Mississippi subreddit for the different protests in the state. While I was unable to attend, I appreciate everyone who did. Again, thanks from a long time lurker.
Betty Cracker
Good turnout! Our town’s protest was from 9 to 11 AM too. Smart!

@zhena gogolia:
Thanks. Wish I had walked around and taken more.
Most of the time I was there, I was facing the street talking to folks and waving at cars.

@Swindor:
Meridian, my hometown, had one as well?
DAYUM!

Made me laugh!

@jonas:

@Nukular Biskits: How very delusional.
Swindor
@Nukular Biskits: I don’t think Meridian had one. But I saw photos for the Jackson, Hattiesburg, and Hernando protests as well as Gulfport. I didn’t mean to imply there was one in Meridian; I was unable to travel to one yesterday. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Nukular Biskits
@Swindor:
Thanks for the clarification.
I would not have been surprised if there was not one, given how far backwards that part of the state is.

Looking at all rhese old guys at the protests and my husband, I don’t see how even facial recognition software can tells these guys apart. Yet my husband won’t let his photo be taken.

Flint Michigan. Estimated thousand or so of us lined a thoroughfare, and about the same few number of MAGArats. While we were getting deafened by the horns blowing support.
Kayla Rudbek
@Nukular Biskits: he’s wearing safety yellow and carrying a gun? Pick a lane (either you wear safety yellow and don’t draw attention to yourself otherwise, or you wear the gun and camouflage)
