No kings Seattle

No Kings Seattle -andor reference

WaterGirl
Great signs!
That third one made me cry.
eclare
Awesome. Estimate is 4k here in Memphis. We showed out.
WereBear
@WaterGirl: Yes. A keeper.
I got teary yesterday. Our town does Memorial Day with local vets pictures on the streetlights and I stationed myself under one of them.
Gesturing to them and my sign, because it was a lot of local traffic, too.

Many more photos I should have put up, but we were beat and peckish, so I was cooking at the same time.  The Seattle Times report there were MORE than 70k people, making it nearly the largest march ever for Seattle.  Also the smaller places in WA had large turnouts — Lopez Island had 350! which is like 10% of the island.
The BEST part of this day was that there was a huge turnout of YOUNG people, thank god.  I have been waiting to see them show.
Warblewarble
Shootings in Minnesota fit a pattern. Anna Politkovskya was murdered on 7th October, Putins birthday, the killings in Minnesota were a gift to tRUMP.
Chief Oshkosh
@Warblewarble: I wonder what other political assassinations have occurred on dictators’ birthdays.
WereBear
@Warblewarble: MAGA has to be pulled up by the roots.
And thrown to the private prisons they like so much.
WaterGirl
@randalms:
So good to hear that!
WaterGirl
@Warblewarble: That’s chilling.
munira
I just saw an estimate of 6,000 for Bellingham – seems about right to me.
BlueGuitarist
@WaterGirl:
thatâs a quote from Andor, season 2 episode 1

WaterGirl
@BlueGuitarist: I keep thinking I will watch Andor, but I haven’t yet. Â Thank you.
Hungry Joe
My estimate (30,000) for the San Diego march was WAY off: Police estimated 60,000. Police also issued a statement thanking organizers and participants for their cooperation and peaceful behavior.
Property damage â $0
Number of arrests â 0
As a volunteer Peacekeeper/Crowd Monitor, I had a perfect day: I did absolutely nothing.

G. Eliot Morris – Strength in Numbers -has an estimate for turnout
https://www.gelliottmorris.com/p/no-kings-day-protests-turn-out-millions
with crowd sourced and vetted numbers
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/158rlsPk0jxXwh3GIKl2YP1W84dPLC_2RXZnMjaG5bVw/edit?gid=0#gid=0
you can submit new info or corrections, with links
Theyâre not done, estimating 4-6 million participants based on info so far.
BlueGuitarist
@munira:
interesting – the Strength in Numbers estimate I mentioned above has only 1,000 for Bellingham. You can add a link and suggested correction
WaterGirl
@Hungry Joe: You still rock!
WaterGirl
@BlueGuitarist: Oh, I had seen an estimate of 7.2 million last night, but I don’t recall the original source, but it was link on balloon juice.
BlueGuitarist
@WaterGirl:
Alt National Parks (altnps) on bluesky said 7.2 million but I didnât see info for individual locations

@randalms:
The Seattle Times reports 150 turned out at Tukwila and ICE and the cops shot pepper balls, tear gas, and flash bangs at the crowd. They wanted them to leave but IIUC, used the tear gas behind them. Geniuses.

opiejeanne
@BlueGuitarist: I saw the protesters estimated at 11 million last night.
Another Scott
@BlueGuitarist: Thanks for that. Made me look.
For the one I was at in Alexandria, the spreadsheet points to here which says he estimated “between 1,000 and 2,000”. The spreadsheet shows 2001. Other reports (seemingly drawn from online) claim 1000-5000.
It’s an interesting exercise, but I don’t think there’s any way that an “accurate” number can be found, even if one tries really hard. Trees and canopies and the rest will hide people from drones, the number is going to vary a lot depending on when the image(s) are taken, etc., etc.
Keep it simple – “a bazillion people attended nationwide No Kings protests” is good enough for me. ;-)
Thanks.
Best wishes,
Scott.
WaterGirl
@Another Scott:
I kind of agree with that, and kind of don’t. Â I think it’s important for strategic reasons to exceed the 3.5% of the population that is suppose to be the critical mass for peaceful protests overturning autocracies.
I was about to type “numbers matter” but then I realized who I was replying to. Â I may as well say that to you as to say it to lowtechcyclist. Â That would be like telling you guys that we need air to breathe. :-)
