Suzanne
I have never heard of Petoskey before! It is filling me with glee, to see people turning out in these off-the-beaten-path places.
sukabi
@Suzanne: my little town that usually only manages protests of 15 to 20 max…and that was several years ago…. had between 100 – 200 folks out in front of the library / post office… was very surprised…. families with small kids to the old veterans with their walkers… good showing in this red county.

I have heard of Petoskey. I have been there. All these photos were posted earlier from elsewhere. So I am not buying it and I am angry, Lying, perhaps?
It’s up in northern lower Michigan, slightly south of Traverse City, Chasten Buttigieg’s hometown.
It really isn’t hekping our cause to post lies.
Watergirl, do you not even look at what you post!!!
WaterGirl
@sab: oh my gosh, can you chill?
I was juggling about 30 posts and as many email messages with multiple pics. All on a weekend when I am doing work for one of my clients.
I heard from AM in NC that the pics I posted as her were someone else’s. So maybe this is the other end of that. I will sort it out in the morning.
So I got something mixed up. Seriously, do you do everything perfectly all the time? Most of us do not. Why so quick to judge, to get angry, to make accusations?
sab
Multiple flag ladies were in Durham NC now in northern Michigan?
I know both places. They can’t have been in both.
Don’t you even look at what you post?!
Please vet more carefully.
I am almost speechless with anger. We cannot even trust BJ now.
WaterGirl
@sab:
Did you even read what I posted at #4?
sab
@WaterGirl: You post BS and I am supposed to chill? You can’t even refer back to what you posted today?
We mock MSM everyday then we post this.
Maybe don’t tell me to chill. Maybe say you are sorry you fucked up badly and made the whole blog look bad, ETA and unreliable.
Barbara
@sab: Speechless with anger? As if you’re personally entitled to WG’s time and energy. How about giving her the benefit of the doubt here?
sab
Don’t tell me to chill in your first sentence, like I am at fault.
Tell me Oops i goofed in your first sentence. This time, in a high profile issue, you fucked up. So don’t blame me as over-reacting.
Scout211
@sab: Are you okay? Your reaction to WaterGirl’s innocent mistake is concerning. There were no lies, no disinformation, just a mistake as she was trying to post over a dozen posts with photos coming in from OTR and via email.
Seriously, are you okay?
Barbara
@Barbara: Petoskey news says there was quite a robust turn out.

sab
@Barbara: She fucked up big time. She herself posted identical pictures from two cities a thousand miles apart as happening on the same day, and then blamed me for complaining.
Either this blog is serious about its content or it isn’t.
I don’t blame her for the mistake. I blame her for blamimg me instead of apologizimg or graciously correcting or whatever.
Posting BS is a big no no and makes this blog pointless.
sab
@Scout211: I am okay, but this is important, and posting duplicate pictures from different cities is amateurish and makes us look like idiots. Sorry y’all don’t see this. Other people read this blog and hopefully trust our content. This error was glaring.
John Cole
@sab: Sab- please calm down. It was an accident.
hitchhiker
@sab:
What possible motive do you think WG has for lying? You see a mistake and instead of saying, for example,
“Yo, I think you got some photos mixed up here, can you check? These Petoskey ones are from some other protest!”
you jump on her with both feet and a snarl on your face. Obviously it matters to be accurate. Obviously that’s the goal. Why act like this is something she did on purpose? Why suggest she’s “lying?”
In the meantime, hey, someone else posted photographs from a Petoskey news source, which I — who lived in Traverse City as a kid — really was glad to see.
Eyes on the ball.
sab
Okay. I calm down. Earlier today the Durham people were questionning where these were from. Petoskey?
Mistakes all around.
sab
@hitchhiker: Bad information is not eyes on the ball. Ignoring questions is not eyes on the ball. Durham people had questions this morning. They were ignored. I had questions an hour ago. I was told to chill.Whatever. A simple correction would have fixed it. Now if someone else reposts it it is starkly wrong. Whatever. We are just a blog.
hitchhiker
@sab: Okay, okay.
You’re right, you asked a question, which was:
If you can’t see why going directly there is a problem, I don’t know what to say. I hope your evening improves from wherever it is now.
sab
@hitchhiker: You are right that I did jump right to lies, and that was uncalled for, inappropriate and very wrong. And I didn’t even believe. Just over the top.
Which led Watergirl to be snippy with me. So I apologize. A lot. I do not think Watergirl lied. I think she made a mistake. Had I been more measured in my comment she almost certainly would have been more polite in hers ( I can’t say less rude, because she wasn’t rude.)
My accomplishment today was to make someone else’s mistake look worse. What a way to spend my day.
Armadillo
@sab: dude chill out
Armadillo
Geminid
@sab: We all.make mistakes, and I’ve made plenty here myself. I hope you don’t let this mixup define your day.
sab
@Geminid: We all make mistakes but I was very much an asshole in the process.
hitchhiker
@sab:
Respect. Have a great night.
sab
Also I want to acknowledge that I have no idea how much work these posts are to put up, but I bet it is a lot. So apologies again for being such an asshole to Watergirl after ahe worked so hard with these posts all weekend.

@sab:
Thank you for having enough heart to say that.

Petoskey has a population of about 6000.
The News Review article estimates 1500 people were at the No Kings protest. Yay!
In case ya wonder (as I did) if everyone came from somewhere else, well, yeah maybe, but there were also No King protests in the other nearby towns “in Charlevoix, Gaylord and on Beaver Island”. So by some estimate one quarter of the residents of Petoskey may have turned out for the protest. Wow!
Am doubly impressed because back-woods Michigan is home to a lot of those revolting right wing militia. Maybe now some of ’em are waking up to the idea of defending the Constitution and people’s rights instead of daydreaming that they will take over Lansing.
Zenmasterzeke
That is indeed Petoskey, which is 70+ miles north of Traverse City, not south. Crowd filled both sides of US 31 at Lake St. I don’t know how many flag women outfits are around the country, but this one was here.

Petoskey is a wonderful place. We went there many times when my uncle was part owner of a radio station in town. At least back in the day, a lot of people from the Chicago area (such as my family) would go there for the summer. I’ve sailed a Sunfish on Little Traverse Bay, collected the famous Petoskey Stones from the shore and once saw an absolutely spell-binding display of the Aurora Borealis one Fourth of July while camping next to the bay.
