I assume from the title you’re only interested in news about how Dems suck.
Gloria DryGarden
There’s too much news. I want to put it all in the blender. Grind it up, and mix it into my compost pile. Saves on the cow manure I need for the garden,
or steep it as a tea, and water the plants with it. If it can be made toxin free.
just tired. It’s too much.

Haven’t seen any discussion here about the new signs at National Park entrances encouraging Stalinesque denunciations of deviations from the white supremacist party line on US history.

Donny treating California like we’re E. Jean Carroll.
If there’s one thing Donny understands, it’s hatred. But in an ironic way.

@Gloria DryGarden:
You know, I recently had to follow some news for work related reasons. What struck me is that there often wasn’t that much news. What there was, was a lot of regurgitation and repetition from a plethora of different traditional and non-traditional outlets, mixed in with a ton of commentary and social media hot takes. What was tiring was having to examine it all for bits and pieces, but once assembled, it didn’t amount to that much real content.

I’m awaiting with dread the news that Trump decides he gets a huge WIN if he orders the 30,000 lb bad boy to be dropped on Iran to help out his dear fiend Bibi.

@Gloria DryGarden: ah, you plan to train an LLM. 😁

@Steve LaBonne: Oh boy! I visited Gettysburg National Military Park last week. Bad words like ‘slavery’ and ‘Jim Crow’ were there in the visitors center museum. But I won’t be reporting that to the authorities…..
Steve LaBonne
@Belafon: The Subpar “Court” decision was predictable yet still nauseating.

@Nilnoc: I think everyone should report that Yogi Bear is up to no good.

I’m more interested in all the news that’s fit to sing.

Local news: My city leaders, after a recent annexation the 4th largest Indiana city, just voted to install a hexagonal LED art-tree thingy next to our walking trail downtown. $300,000. Fishers Indiana. We have so much money. I do like our adult swings. We’re installing more at a second trailhead.

It’s at least partially a good week thus far.
Mike Lindell hit with another judgment against him, this one for more than $2 million.
(Am probably late to the party with this but I’ve been mostly taking a break from news for a few days.)

@Steve LaBonne:
The sign directs readers to submit a report to the Interior Dept website, should they find something in disrepair or overhear a person making disparaging remarks about e.g. American historical figures. But there’s no mention about how or on what legal basis the interior department will respond to a report about someone expressing a terrible opinion of Trump or racism in our country’s history. And there is none – if you are a citizen, at least one without an Hispanic surname and nut-brown skin. The implicit threat is that any identifying reports will be forwarded by Interior to State or ICE. Any noncitizen, including people here on green cards, who (if identified) could then be expelled as undesirables by the current State Department or ICE.

@Baud: All of us on the Baud/Cracker 2028! campaign have definitely been influenced!
Geminid
@Nilnoc: I think the potential U.S. entey unto the Israeli/Iranian war may be the most closely watched story so far this year. It definitely is in the Middle East, but it’s also getting a huge amount of attention in the US where most people typically tune out Middle East news.
A lot of people are convinced U.S. intervention is a certainty, but there are analysts I respect who say the decision has not been made yet.
So we might be in suspence a while longer. It all could come down to one last meeting in Oman that could happen as early as tomorrow.
What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?
I saw a headline that Putin is warning the US not to get involved in the conflict between Iran and Israel. Which makes sense as Iran is providing drones to Russia for their war in Ukraine and they’re probably F’ed if Iran can’t keep sending them because the manufacturing facilities have been destroyed (or if Iran is keeping them all to launch at Israel). I know he’s cozy with Bibi too but there are so many conflicts of interest among his erstwhile allies that keeping them all on the same page is impossible.
Wonder what FFOTUS will do? He wants to use those big bombs and I feel like he’s desperate to attach himself to this thing because he views it as an easy win, which he could definitely use right now, but that would mean crossing his bestie. It’s a conundrum.

@cmorenc: Trump thinks he is a “historical figure” – that IS code for “saying something bad about Trump”.
Betty
@me: That’s sick. I couldn’t watch.

As observed elsewhere, the orange guy does things in order to see stories about himself in the news. That would be why he’d drop a big bomb, and right now I’d give that about 60-65%.
His “friend” Bibi knows this perfectly well, btw, and it’s how he — and others — have manipulated and will continue to manipulate the orange guy, and through him US actions (I’m not gonna dignify it with the term “policy”).
I’ll pretty much guarantee he will NOT get US troops involved, because that would lead to BAD stories about him in the news. But dropping bombs on “Mooslums,” sure! Big booms AND a blow for the Righteous against the Heathens! Win-win
(And I’m guessing the Iranians know all this perfectly well and are frantically dispersing their stocks of enriched Uranium and maybe equipment as well.)
Baud
@Sandia Blanca:
I’m sorry, I wasn’t clear. I have to have a positive influence to be paid.

Well, the Senate version of the BBB keeps getting worse. They want to sell off huge amounts of federal land with no opportunity for anyone to object. This is to help offset the huge deficit they insist on creating with the tax gift to the rich.
Citizen Alan
@Steve LaBonne: They want to make it a literal crime to say anything that might hurt Shitgibbon’s feelings. AFAIC, there is officially no difference between a Republican and a Nazi except that they do not yet have the infrastructure in place to start killing us in large numbers.
Geminid
@What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?: I’m not sure Putin and Netanyahu are as cozy now as they used to be. One reason I say this is that Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems retired by Israel a couple years ago are showing up now in Ukraine, as part of a deal the U.S. brokered last year.
cmorenc
@What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?:
Because Trump is stung by disappointment that his birthday military parade he intended to showcase himself as leader of the most potent army on earth, was a bit of a flop with the public, that may incline him toward making some big toxic-manly gesture directly involving US military against Iran.
jonas
@Trollhattan: Offer to paint it gold and rename it the Trump Super Genius Glory Train. Nobody will ride it, but maybe it will at least keep some of the funding coming.
Jackie
@What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?:
The latest conundrum is being pissed at Tulsi for parroting Putin’s desires. FFOTUS chooses Putin, then he agrees with Tulsi. And, yet he’s furious at Tulsi for very publicly stating the US needs to stay out of Iran. How FFOTUS can please Putin AND simultaneously “discipline” Tulsi may be popcorn-worthy.
And, then there’s that pesky business of supporting Bibi and Israel…
Baud
@Citizen Alan:
Thank God for grifting contractors.
bbleh
@Betty: yeah I fear it was always a question of how much damage they would do. As observed elsewhere, this is their ONE shot — the only time under reconciliation rules this year, and next year the elections start heating up (and the economy likely cooling down) — so they’re gonna cram everything they can into it, especially a giant budget-busting tax cut for very wealthy people and corporations. And then whatever combination of misery and destruction they figure will get through both houses. Hopefully some of it can be undone later.

I haven’t followed the news closely, but is Tehran being bombed? Because I’m pretty sure that’s where most or all of Iran’s Jewish community live. I haven’t seen any stories about them.

@Baud: If you read a lot of news sources you can see 10 alarming “[X] is even worse than you thought” headlines that all turn out to be reporting the same story, so the “even worse than you thought” angle gets multiplied by 10.

They do, it’s the Air Force. It would be messy, of course.

In news from the Tesla isn’t all bad category, the latest update to the vehicles includes Child Left Alone Protection:
If an unattended child is detected, the vehicle will flash the exterior indicator lights, play an alert tone, and send a notification to your Tesla app. This will repeat at regular intervals until you return to your vehicle. Cabin data is processed locally and is not transmitted to Tesla.
This feature is enabled by default.

@Matt McIrvin: I noticed a long time ago that 24 hr news was rarely news. At the time at least Fox News had one 4 hour block of largely straight news in the afternoon while CNN and MSNBC were nearly straight up opinion / talking heads. I haven’t watched cable “news” in a long time (except for YouTube exerpts), but I given the people that have left or been fired from FOX I don’t think their old news block still exists.
It’s not like there isn’t enough real news to fill the day, but damned if we will hear it on the “news” networks.
Geminid
@Harrison Wesley: Tehran most definitely has been bombed, since the predawn strikes Friday morning and on up to today.
cain
@What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?:
He wants a win. If it looks like he can claim winning a war then the rush will be overwhelming and he can always say that he can make a deal with Russia.
Putin should know that he can’t control Trump.
If it looks like it is going to fail though he will jump ship fast and claim he warned them that it was going to go bad and then leave Israel in the lurch
Booger
@Nilnoc: Which makes me wonder how it will identify an unattended child…?
Nilnoc
@cain: I’m afraid Trump will think he can drop a bomb or two and be done with it. War won. He thinks his warning to Iran to not attack American bases will be heeded. He has no foresight or conception of consequences. He thinks he can play chess while he can’t win at tic tac toe. He thinks he’ll get the Peace Prize. His cabinet backs him up.
Nilnoc
@Booger: There is a camera that looks at who is in the car. It’s in the rear view mirror housing It’s primary purpose is to see if the driver is watching the road.
Bill Arnold
@Nilnoc:
If he does this, he guarantees that Iran will (attempt to) separate from 60% to 90%/assemble some bombs at another, hidden facility, with solid and paranoid OPSEC. (Israeli (pathological) arrogance does not always translate to superiority. Impressive operation so far, sure.)
The Israeli bet that political assassinations and incessant bombardment will cause the Iranian theocracy to disintegrate without bad consequences is … not a solid bet. E.g. many in the Israeli military and political leadership are now already legitimate assassination targets.

@Citizen Alan: Ah yes, lese-majeste, one of the most common prerogatives claimed by kings: jailing everyone who laughs at you. I always worried about that little boy in The Emperor’s New Clothes. The truth is life to a free people, but is often death to those in bondage.
