You know the drill by now!
Game 1: LA Dodgers @ Philadelphia Phillies, starts at 6:08 pm ET on TBS
Game 2: Chicago Cubs @ Milwaukee Brewers, starts at 9:08 pm ET on TBS
“LET’S PLAY BAAALL!”
Since this thread will be active all day, at least for a few of you guys, let’s keep this one for all things baseball!

Chicago Officials Speaking Out
comrade scotts agenda of rage
The Mariners-Tigers games have been great! It’s the kinda post-season baseball those of us with no rooting interest (but plenty of ‘rooting-against’ interest) because our team sucks love to watch.
frosty
Thanks for these, WG! I might try to watch one tonight if I can see it without cable.
WV Blondie
I normally root against the Phillies, since they’re an in-division rival of my beloved – if sucky – Nationals, but I gotta root against the Dodgers in this one. They’re the Yankees of the West Coast!
Jackie
@frosty: Unfortunately both games are on TBS. I wish the games were broadcast on local broadcast channels so everyone that wants to watch could.
bbleh
@frosty: TBS allows, I think, a 10 minute “trial period,” which would mean reopening in a “private” window every 10 minutes (and mmmaybe — not sure how they do it — purging whatever cookie it leaves behind). Might not be TOO much of a pain for crucial moments — maybe follow on MLB Gameday and then open the video when it gets exciting?
Playoff games are a giant revenue grab on MLB’s part.
Jackie
@WV Blondie: I have my favorite team – the M’s – but I’m firmly in the any team but the Dodgers and Yankees camp.
japa21
Go Crew
Jackie
@bbleh:
The NBA is guilty, too.
comrade scotts agenda of rage
@WV Blondie:
Yeah, I think that sums up most of us Nats fans (not all, just most).
As I said in the other thread, for this matchup, I root for an asteroid strike. :)
And yes, we suck. Could be worse, we could be the Rockies with beyond cheap (and uncaring) owners.
frosty
@Jackie: I found out the NFL requires the teams to have at least one station broadcast over the air – so I put up an antenna. The regular season Orioles are only on MASN which requires a subscription AND a cable provider. No thanks.
I guess baseball has decided they don’t need fans.
Splitting Image
Definitely cheering for Milwaukee to win the National League, but also hoping that the birds have one more ten-run game in them for tomorrow night. If they can dispatch the Yankees, I’d be happy with any of the other three AL teams. It has been a long time between championships for all of them. I wouldn’t say no to a Seattle-Milwaukee series.
Baud
@frosty:
There are only 16 NFL games in the regular season and 162 baseball games. Broadcast TV could never have handled all the baseball games for every team.
mrmoshpotato
@Baud: You used to be able to catch it all on WGN. :(
comrade scotts agenda of rage
@Baud:
Which is why regional cable sports networks, in part, developed.
And their demise (with some notable exceptions of those connected to franchises that basically print money like the Fucking Yankees™ and the Fucking Yankees of the West Coast™) is one of the biggest reasons the Commissioner is working on the issue:
espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/46285653/commissioner-says-mlb-nearing-broadcast-deals-2026-28-seasons
He really wants them all centralized:
reddit.com/r/mlb/comments/1nn8e0i/manfred_suggests_that_mlb_will_be_able_to_unify/
But of course the battle there will be with some of the aforementioned teams although they could be outvoted if enough owners gang up. But that’s hard because at least 5 teams love the current system because they spend no money on their teams, field massively uncompetitive products and the owners still make gobs of money.
Baseball “economics” is one big-assed headache with lots of faithless actors on all sides.
comrade scotts agenda of rage
@frosty:
Are you a T-Mobile customer? Every March, they have a 5-day window where you can sign up for MLB.tv for free!
It’s how I watch Nats games in Denver.
It’s blacked out for local markets tho so that might be an issue if you’re in the DC area.
Baud
@mrmoshpotato:
Just the Cubs.
I think early cable based on Atlanta used to show the Braves.
Eric S.
Chicagoland has been my home since I was 7 but I was born in downstate Illinois (Quincy). Once they were eliminated, I exchanged my Cardinal Reds for Cubbie Blues. Let’s get a W.
mrmoshpotato
Go Phillies! Shake your belly, Phanatic!
mrmoshpotato
@Baud:
I know. 😁
Jackie
@comrade scotts agenda of rage:
That’s supposedly going away next year. The Mariners were only available via ROOTS NW. They are done, and the M’s will be joining the MLB Network with NO Blackout restrictions!
Eric S.
@Baud: I remember early/mid 1980s Cable. WGN was local for me but I had access to TBS (Braves) and WOR (Mets). I watched a lot of baseball and could see the Cardinals far more often than before cable.
mrmoshpotato
@Eric S.: Do you think they’ll have the roof open or closed tonight?
Eric S.
@mrmoshpotato: If the sky above the Loop is any indicator, they should close it.
Jackie
Dodgers have two on board. One out. Luzardo isn’t looking sharp at the moment. Hopefully he settles in. Two outs. 24 pitches. Not a great start.
frosty
@Baud: They only have to handle the home team. I used to be able to see every Orioles game on Channel 2, so broadcast didn’t have a problem doing it. Not now though, gotta pay!
ETA and now I’ll quit derailing the thread. Go Brewers!
mrmoshpotato
@Eric S.: Oh, nice orange on the radar to the west of the Loop.
Eric S.
The default weather app on my phone suggests no rain in Milwaukee. Open air baseball!
Plus, I think that roof can be closed in under 15m.
CaseyL
As a Seattleite, I of course want the Mariners to win it all (the city will go absolutely nuts if they do)… BUT if not the Mariners, then the Blue Jays, just to totally fuck with the Orange Clot.
mrmoshpotato
@Eric S.: The roof is expected to be closed according to the roof hotline.
Trivia Man
@bbleh: I open espn and follow the play by play text, pretending its on the radio . Works for football, too but not so much hockey.
pajaro
My main rooting interest is in my original hometown team the Cubbies.
I have complicated feelings about the rest. I really love watching Ohtani, so I’m OK tolerating the California version of the evil empire.
For political reasons, I’d love to see Toronto do well. A Toronto victory would deny Trump the chance to do a winning team visit to the White House, and I love what a victory parade in Toronto might look like.
Trivia Man
@Eric S.: my dad grew up in san Francisco and told me about the ORIGINAL America’s team – your St Louis Cardinals. Before NY moved 2 teams to the coast, the cardinals were the closest team for essentially half of the USA.
He split his loyalty between STL and the AAA SF Seals.
Jackie
@CaseyL: Absolutely! I think a lot of us share that sentiment lol!
We all want OUR AL team to win, but if it’s not to be – gooo Toronto!
If the Jays knock NY out, the added bonus is a certain “someone” won’t be attending Yankees games the rest of this season ;-D
Trivia Man
Has anybody been to a World Series in person? Bonus points if you were a kid. I was lucky enough to see 2 games in the Charlie Finley A’s years.
Trivia Man
@pajaro: Ohtani dud the impossible – i can enjoy a dodgers win and not feel dirty. But only if it is Ohtani led.
Judge almost does the same for (spit). Grudging respect for a legendary hitter. But i still enjoy it when he K with bases loaded.
frosty
@Trivia Man: Yes, in Baltimore in ’79 and ’83 at Memorial Stadium. Tickets were pretty easy to get. My neighbors and I all got in the lottery and traded tickets around so we all could see at least one game.
ETA Not a kid; in my 20s.
Sure Lurkalot
@Jackie: MLB has nothing on the NBA for playoff grift. All of the NBA playoff match ups were best of 7…the tournament went on and on to the point that even my most ardent NBA fans were disgusted by it.
I like MLB’s best of 3, 5 and 7 (x2) format. I think it’s more exciting.
AnthroBabe
League Series:
Detroit-Blue Jays
Dodgers-Brewers
of course, I want the Dodgers to go all the way, not sure if their bullpen can support that (if not, Brewers-Blue Jays WS!)
Jackie
That’s better! 3 up; 3 down. Luzardo has settled in.
Jackie
@Sure Lurkalot: Agree! NBA playoffs are what? Three months? It seems like that long.
Eric S.
@Trivia Man: I didn’t know they had a West Coast reach but their radio station, KMOX, was said to have the most powerful broadcast in the US. for a long time. They reached a lot of people across the plains and the South.
Baud
@Sure Lurkalot:
MLB would do all best of 7 of winter didn’t interfere.
Jackie
@Baud: What about those snow ball games in March and early April? ;-)
Eric S.
@Trivia Man: Two, but I wasn’t a kid. Game 1 2004 White Sox and Game 1 Card in 2011.
And it just this moment Dana on me that I attended the first WS game for both Texas teams (I think that’s right)
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
Bundle up!
mrmoshpotato
The Phillies’ organ will rock you!
Sure Lurkalot
@Jackie: Seriously! When I was in a season ticket group, we begged off the April tickets after getting snowed on a couple of times.
hitchhiker
@Jackie:
I want on this train! Cheering from Whidbey Island every time the Yankees lose, hoping Cal Raleigh predicted our future when he said we might as well win the whole fucking thing, prepared to become a Jays fan if the Ms fall short … and let’s not forget:
The Astros didn’t even get a wild card. :)
Trivia Man
@Sure Lurkalot: trivia question to test deductive reasoning. I attended an NBA finals game once. I purchased a ticket at the gate 20 minutes before tipoff for $5. What city was i in?
mrmoshpotato
@Trivia Man: Not Chicago.
Geminid
@Eric S.: I can get KMOX in Virginia at night. They are a clear channel station that boosts its AM signal to 50,000 Watts after dark.
Trivia Man
@Eric S.: don’t know about radio, but he was an avid box score reader. His dad taught me how to score at AAA games in SLC. Very happy he was able to attend those Oakland World Series games with us. Checked off his bucket list.
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: There is for real a roof hotline?
Jackie
@hitchhiker:
Poor Houston… said in former governor Ann Richards’ voice <snicker snicker>
mrmoshpotato
@WaterGirl: Yes. Called it back on May 4th to see if the roof would be open for the Cubs@Brewers game. (It was WINDY in Mikwaukee that day! Roof was closed.)
mrmoshpotato
Survivor – Eye of the Organ
Trivia Man
@Geminid: Always made me laugh to dial in the Albuquerque Dukes in the middle of the night. I bet i heard those games from Omaha to Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.
Trivia Man
@mrmoshpotato: Pontiac. From my seat in the rafters the only players i could actually identify were Kareem and Laimbeer. It was not a sellout. Eventually they moved to Auburn Hills.
Jackie
Tonight it’s “scoreless in Philadelphia.” Not nearly as annoying as last night’s game in Seattle.
Jackie
Ohtani is 0-3! Mookie has the only hit for LA.
Jackie
Snell walked two back to back. He’s running low on gas with 91 pitches. One out.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: Let’s get to the stretch with no runs.
“Let’s get some runs – either of you!”
Martin
I kind of feel bad for the Blue Jays – you’d think with 23 runs the narrative would be on how good they are rather than how badly the Yankees suck, but we’ve really primed that latter narrative quite hard.
Jackie
New pitcher for the Phillies. Kerkering. Damn, Dodgers score 1-0.
Crap! 3-0 Dodgers.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: Not getting the stretch with 0-0 on the board. :(
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato: Really hope Toronto dispatches the Yanks tomorrow. In Yankee Stadium.
Martin
Make that 4-0.
Jackie
@Martin: Hi, Martin :-)
Time for a Phillies rally!
I hate October for all the scary movie previews I don’t watch.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: That would be excellent.
Martin
@Jackie: Hello. :) Good to see Seattle decided to stay in it yesterday.
Martin
@Jackie: I’ll be honest, I’ve seen better rallies out of the Phillies.
Jackie
@Martin: At least this isn’t the deciding game, although it’s tough being down 2-0 with LA. IF that should happen.
HA! Out!
Martin
@Jackie: Keep in mind, these are Philly’s home games. It’s going to be harder when they get to LA, not easier. Philly’s really a tough home city to play in, because you’re out there playing knowing full well that one of your fans will throw a bottle of Yuengling at you in the parking lot if you play poorly
Signs of life…
Jackie
🎶Here we go Phillies, here we go!🎶 Rally time!
Martin
In fairness, that was a better rally, but not a sufficient one.
Jackie
@Martin: LOL
Martin
Ok, are we getting the rally or the Dodgers patented ‘let them load the bases and not score any runs’?
Eric S.
Here come the Phillies
Jackie
@Martin: You tell me!
4-3 Runner on 2nd! No outs! Pitching change…
Jackie
@Eric S.: !!!
Jackie
I love baseball❣️Another Dodger pitching change…
WOW! Freeman great play!
4-3 Dodgers win.
And apparently the Cubs did something exciting? 3-0 Cubbies top of the 1st
Eric S.
Let’s go Cubs!!
Jackie
@Eric S.: 3 run homer! Nice way to start! ;)
Oh yeah it’s also MNF! 14-7 KC leads the Jaguars
Martin
Turned out to be more the Dodgers patented near-choke than the rally. Phillies need a reverse sweep away. Best of luck with that.
Jackie
@Martin: See you Wed – unless you join us tomorrow for the AL games :)
Jackie
Brewers bottom of the 1st are also playing ball! Runners on 1st and 2nd; 2 outs… HR! Tied game!!!
I’m sure there’s a stat for both teams getting 3 run homers same inning lol
Peale
So now we’re back to 0-0.
i think the brewers will win this one 27-26.
Jackie
@Peale: LOL!
Or are you calling the MNF final score? ;-)
Jackie
WOW Brewer’s pitcher done in middle of 2nd inning! Cubs have 2 on with 2 outs.
Peale
This ump needs Visine.
mrmoshpotato
Fuck the Dodgers for eating into the Cubs time slot.
Peale
God Misiorowski makes me nervous
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato:
TNT covered the start of the game until the LA/Phillies game ended. ;-)
If tomorrow’s games overlap, FS2 will cover Toronto/Yankees until the M’s/Tigers game finishes.
Jackie
Brewers HR 4-3 Brewers. Action in Chicago’s bullpen. Pitcher change.
MNF update: 21-14 Jaguars
japa21
Just remember, the Brewers can’t win in the post-season because they don’t hit home runs.
Jackie
@japa21: LOL!
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
Hopefully I can get YouTubeTV to cooperate if needed.
mrmoshpotato
@japa21: You’z funny. Reeeal funny.
mrmoshpotato
21-21 in Jacksonville. Go Chiefs!
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato:
I have YouTube TV. Worked fine :-)
Peale
@mrmoshpotato: frickin Trevor Lawrence
Peale
So is the plan to have Palencia pitch 5 innings?
Peale
Average Joe with a hit!
Jackie
@Peale: 7-3 Brewers 3 run homer.
@japa21: Don’t tell the Brewers!
japa21
Brewers have never hit a 3 run HR in post-season play. 2 tonight.
Peale
Churio!!!! Hi Ho!
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: First pitches are 4 hours apart tomorrow. Though a nearly 4 hour ballgame would totally slap.
Peale
@mrmoshpotato: I’m so torn. I want Toronto to win. But for the other game, I want the Tigers and Seattle to both win. Maybe decide to merge into one team.
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato: Well for future reference…
Since the M’s are the first game, I DON’T want a marathon extra innings game!!!
Jackie
@Peale: Focus on the fact Seattle’s never been in the WS! Hopefully that tips the scales for you a wee bit ;-D
mrmoshpotato
@Peale:
Haha! That’s like Milwaukee playing St. Louis – can’t they both lose?
Go Jays!
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
You don’t like bonus baseball?
Peale
See how easy it is to not interfere with a foul ball when it’s your team on the field? Everyone in the stands there was like “Don’t be a Bartman” with their hands in their pockets.
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato: Not when they play again Wed! If they had a day off, HELL YA!
And I hate the automatic runner on 2nd base. I think oftentimes it lengthens the games as they trade ties for more innings.
wj
Bonus baseball isn’t more innings. It’s having your favorite team rested enough to keep going for more games.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
Hahaha!
hitchhiker
@Peale: Tigers were my childhood team. Al Kaline. Denny McClain. Mickey Lolich! I was in 10th grade when Lolich pitched THREE complete games in the world series. Unimaginable now.
But the Mariners are my kids’ childhood team, and now my grandkids’ childhood team. I really want to see them get through!
Sorry, Detroit. We need to do this.
Peale
I do not miss Counsel’s constant pitching changes. I still respect him for getting the most out of those Brewers teams, but if the league still allowed it, he’d be on pitcher number 15 right now
Jackie
Holy cow! Jags up 31-28 over the Chiefs with 16 secs left!
Jaguars win!
mrmoshpotato
@wj:
Fair enough.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: Noooooooo!!!!!
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato: YEEEESSSSS!
The Jaguars are legit this year. And Mahomes has gotten too big for his britches. He needs some humbling IMO. I don’t want KC becoming the new Patriots.
Jackie
That was a major screwup for the Cubs. 7-3 Brewers
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
I blame State Farm.
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato: And Subway.
The KC gang aren’t in any commercials this season. Over saturation.
These gawddamn Halloween creepy movies commercials! Ugh
Jackie
So if I have this right, if the Cubs don’t rally and come through tonight, the M’s/Tigers are the only team guaranteed to play a fourth game?
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: This is game 2 for MIL and CHC. MIL is up 1-0.
japa21
@Jackie: That is correct
Jackie
@japa21:
@mrmoshpotato:
Got it. mrmoshpotato, hopefully you join the minimum 4 games club. Bottom of the 9th rally time!
Jackie
Sorry mrmoshpotato, I sincerely hope the Cubs win Wed. I also hope the Phillies win Wed.
We’re running out of baseball season. 😢
wj
@Jackie: The only series I want to stop at 3 games is the Yankees-Blue Jays.
Jackie
@wj: Definitely. Even sweeter is it’d be at Yankees Stadium!
Trivia Man
@Jackie:
Good news – no ghost runner in post-season games. Start with a clean slate in every inning.
Jackie
Breaking news:
Mariners Josh Naylor did not travel to Detroit with the M’s. He and his wife are expecting their first baby at any moment. The Mariners planned for this event so it’s not an unexpected adjustment. Blessings to the Naylor’s!

@Trivia Man: Oh that’s good to know! Thank you for that information!
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie: Thank you. :)

Local wunderground station is reporting -40, feels like -58.
Then why is it raining?
It’s fun when weather stations freak out.
