I forget why I ended up at my damn channel, but someone sent me there, and I looked around for a little bit and found the Don Was channel. Go there, now.
By the way, thinking about Palin’s amendment idiocy from earlier, I could have sworn she said something threatening towards the media just a little bit ago. Anyone have a link?

I wish Lawrence O’Donnell was my boyfriend.
Maybe he can be my imaginary boyfriend.
Totally blasts the "Palin is the future of the Rethug party" myth out of Rachel’s ballpark tonight.
I heart that man.

From yesterday …
On North Coast labels, it says, "Water, malted barley, hops, yeast, and that’s all."
You can’t get it many places on the east cost, but in MD:

Fort Washington, MD 20744

And, the good folks at Corey and Nate’s Beer Labels say,
And, they give it 5 pints.

I’ll suffer the consequences (gluten reactions) to drink Red Seal!! Bring on the antihistamines!!!

@Laura W: Lawrence O’Donnell broke the news about Powell’s endorsement early also. I had pretty good sources but didn’t verify that one until Friday.. So can we assume that John is not going out trick or treating this year?
eastriver
I met Don about a month ago at the old A&M studios. I had no idea who he was until I checked out the link.
Thanks JC.

@eastriver: Don Was is a national treasure.

Wow! Poking around the page, I found out that Willie Nelson has a couple of really talented sons. Listen to this song by Lukas. Sounds a bit like his dad, a bit like late Dylan. Works for me.

And as long as I’m foisting my musical preferences on you, here’s the world’s most adorable robot dancing to Spoon in Tokyo.
(Spoon can perform miracles, y’all. Here they create the only great Billy Joel song ever.)

The Was (not Was) LPs were some of the best ever.
They alternated surreal bits with soul rave-ups and flat out rockers. Sweet Pea could SING!!

Hard to top that.

Re: the business about Palin and the media; were you referring to her statement about her First Amendment Rights being violated? It’s been taken up in full by Glenn.
Comrade Stuck
This is why I love the intertubes, no telling what little jewels will turn up when you log on. Had not heard of My Damn Channel, and if you can remember who told you about it Cole, thank them for me.

I’ve had fun handing out candy to the kiddies this evening. Not a ton of kids around us – we might get a couple dozen total – but it’s so fun seeing them all dressed up and grinning. The little ones are especially cute, they look so shocked and surprised to have strangers passing out chocolate, with no idea what to say.
I dress the door up in cobwebs and plastic spiders, and hang stupid stuffed ghosts around. It’s tacky but I love it. My husband carved a great scary-face pumpkin which still has a candle burning in it. I love Halloween, it’s all so outside the norm for our very ordinary neighborhood.
Tomorrow – back to canvassing for Obama.
The Dangerman
Shockingly, I agree with Sarah the Governor; I’m all for investigating associations. Like the association of John Birch society material on her desk as mayor (cleaning up the streets of litter, I suppose), her affiliations with the AIP (just the Governor being neighborly, I’m sure), and her associations with the builder of the hockey arena in Wasilla that looks like it built her house, too (coincidence, no doubt).
I’m so looking forward to Tuesday evening and learning about John the Loser. Treat for me, trick on him.

@Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse:
I want me one of those little fellers. :–)

The demi-bunker is always decked out for Halloween. This year, we added a couple of new light-up skeletons and a fog generator…that’s been a huge hit so far.
That, and the Jack-o-lantern with the axe in its head. With pumpkin innards trickled across the axe.
I don’t understand why we don’t get many trick-or-treaters…
jnfr
Ah, ha ha ha! demi that’s great. I definitely need to get a fog machine.

Comrade Stuck, they’re selling a professional research version for $30K now, but a cheaper public version is upcoming. He is one damn complex little tyke, so the current price doesn’t surprise me too much.

No, but I’m sure it’ll get those newspaper endorsements avalanching in.

We got our usual handful of small kids and a few almost too old kids. Then we turned off the lights because after the older kids come the college kids who are 91.6% less cute than they think they are. Now I am watching Ghost Hunters and The Miz is The Suck.

@demi:
That sounds pretty entertaining! One of my best friends is a magician (as is his father) and when we were kids his parents always did some outrageous shit. Heavens knows they had the props. The whole damned town would come around to check it out…and there is an entire generation that will always remember it.

Eh? Embedded video in comments? This place really has gotten a new coat of paint.
Comrade Stuck
@Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse:
Yikes, 30,000. If they can get the price down to a few hundred, every kid will have to have one. And maybe a few adults as well.
Rick Taylor
Ohhh. I recommend listening to that audio, painful as it is. I can’t get over that as cynical as I’ve become, this is worse than anything I’ve heard before. At least Bush knew to not associate himself directly with certain attacks, and to leave them to third parties. This is the nominee for the presidency; it’s stomach turning. The Republican party keeps getting worse and worse, even as it seems impossible. And you’re absolutely right John, the wingnuts are in control.
Rick Taylor
Another thing that strikes me in that recording is just what an incredible fake she is. Bush was a fake as well, with his ranch and his folksy manner, but she is just ridiculously obvious.
In the first sentence above, she’s actually dictating the way she wants people to see her, the image that accent and manner is supposed to convey. It’s like a parody, bordering on what someone would do in a comedy sketch. And people are being taken in by her. They’re idolizing her after a few short weeks. Being fooled by Bush was bad enough, but her?
Comrade Stuck
Well, that didn’t take too long. Eagleburger extricating his foot from mouth and paying the proper homage to your Wingnut Queen.
Actually, you were thinking Larry, and now your being a good Republican and speaking from your ass.
From blockquote hell.
The Golux
Thanks for the MyDamnChannel link. I just listened to the Buddy Miller track three times. Damn he’s good. Jonell Mosser, on the following clip, is great too.
Now I have something to do with all that extra time.
I guess I should look into more Don Was stuff. Thanks.

Gawddamn it. My new roommate told me they had 30 hallow-weeners last year. Bullshit. I bought a ton of candy (chocolate, mind you, the good stuff), and not one trickster. No way he had 30 last year and none this year.
Freakazoid.
But, I did watch my cache of Good Eats, and I know more about cooking now.
Also, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce is gluten free!!!
OMG. I am so happy. I love that stuff.
I also found a gluten-free recipe for pate a choux–yum. Gluten free pudding, and yummy savory stuff in a nice crusty shell. Hell yeah.

Watching Tweety on Hardball.
What a bunch of fuck heads these GOPers are. When confronted by their rhetoric, they fold. "Not a part of the JFK, Lyndon Johnson Democrats … " What a bunch of losers.

I can listen to Sweet Pea all day and all night. Sir Harry, too, for that matter. Ever run across this one on ‘Tube?

@Comrade Stuck: Christ, for a second I thought he was going to blame Obama for what he said.
Maybe tomorrow.

I guess this is change we can believe in.
Hmm, actually it sounds a little like the Valerie Plame story. You know, like ‘more of the same’.
Latest Zogby poll on Drudge shows McCain leading (yes leading) nationally in their single day poll on Friday. People are catching on to your socialist Dear Leader. Perhaps it’s too late and the media cheer-led, celebrity candidate will still win.
Should Your President win, I expect the regrets to start rolling in about 6 months.

Watching Cleese on Countdown…man what’s with that laugh? Is he still a smoker? because he sounds like shit.

I would LOVE to know what threat they used on Eagleburger, to get him to do that full 180 on what he said – and clearly believed – yesterday.
I mean, I swear, it’s like the GOP did the equivalent of leaving a horse head in his bed.
And yes, I am comparing the Republican party to an organized crime family. You gotta problem wit dat?

I didn’t want to be accused of being a redistributionist so I ate all of the candy.

Speaking of Eagleburger, I don’t know what it is about the guy, but I’ve always liked watching the guy talk. Not that we are even on the same plane of thinking…but he just always mesmerized me. Dunno why.
I Am Joe
One thing to add: I was giving serious consideration to voting for Obama as of about 2-3 weeks ago.
But the notion of "redistributing the wealth" from people who have worked hard their whole life to make a living towards people who are promised government welfare benefits is such a fundamentally UN-American principle that I am embarrassed for having even considered a vote for him. I don’t really give a damn if you are insulted if you actually think "redistributing the wealth" is a good idea – the Constitution refers to the sanctity of the individual and the protections granted upon him or her from the state. It does NOT talk about "redistributive rights". So again, that is a fundamentally UN-American principle.
I think there are many millions of other Joes out there like me who agree. This is why Zogby is showing McCain ahead now. We shall see how this plays out.

@r€nato:
Shut up! Joe has millions more friends than you do, all of whom agree with him. And you are violating their first amendment rights. Also.
r€nato
I love how these asshats talk about the Constitution, as if they have ever actually read it.
Hey concern cobag, the Constitution does have a few things to say about illegal search and seizure, and the duty of the president to uphold the laws and treaties that Congress passes.
But I bet not once in the last 7 years has it occurred to you to go troll RedState or FreeRepublic with your concerns about THAT.
Now FOAD or DIAF or STFU or something.
Goddam, there’s no way I can be gracious in victory next week. These asshats have been begging for it for a good, long time.
Suck on this, I Am Jackass:
President. Barack. Hussein. Obama.
I Am Joe
Renato,
It figures you’d be a good little Brownshirt. When Bush tried to go after people who disagreed with him, it was bad. When Obama does it, you’ve got no problem with it.
I couldn’t think of a more classic example of hypocrisy on display.
So you’re comfortable with the state of Ohio doing an extensive check into the personal life of Joe the Plumber because he had the audacity to ask your Audacity of Hope candidate a question?
That doesn’t sound like change, it sounds like more of the same. The only thing that’s changed was the letter in front of the President’s name.
Dennis - SGMM
Sure you were. If you don’t understand that every time you pay any tax what so ever you’re redistributing wealth then you’re probably not making the $250,000 a year that would be required for you to see your taxes raised under an Obama administration.
But thanks for playing.
Tattoosydney
Or you would be if Joe wasn’t lambchop to some peculiarly obsessive Shari Lewis…
"Sarah, may i pwease have some freedom of speech?"
r€nato
teh stoopid is strong with this one.
Say, I Am Jackass, tell me how you feel about this:
I think Obama should levy a big, fat tax on Big Oil and distribute the proceeds to all Americans.
What say you? Socialism, Marxism or good governance?
r€nato
Congratulations, John. This blog is now important enough that it regularly attracts trolls! One hardly ever saw them around here before…
skippy
just to lighten the load a bit…why pets hate halloween.
Shaggy
David Brooks is on Charlie Rose right now, bashing Obama. Such a douchetoolcraptasticmoran. I hate that guy.
Halloween is over, so I need to look ahead. Perhaps when I pull my Thanksgiving turkey out of the oven and bring it in all its glistening glory to the table where my conservative family members are waiting anxiously, affixed to the space where the turkey’s neck had been will be a smiling paper cutout of David Brooks’ fuck smarmy face.
Now Charlie is talking about an "elitist" as someone who was at the top of their profession. He mentioned "plumbers" as one of those professions. Yay Charlie. Thank you for that.
Shaggy
@skippy: The cats must REALLY hate that stuff, especially the penguin one.
The dogs can take it, I think; cats not so much.

Such an important thing to you that you didn’t bother to do the work. Obama didn’t use that phrase, he used a figure of speech which is widely used to mean, and taken to mean, evening things out, leveling a playing field, not literally spreading wealth at all. The context was taxation, and specifically, progressive taxation which has been the standard of American taxation models for a most of the Twentieth and all of the Twenty First centuries. The model favored by Teddy Roosevelt, and the one arranged for you by both Democratic and Republican congresses and presidents for the better part of a hundred years.
What you are talking about in your spoofapalooza blurb is a lie, a distortion of the thing said by Obama, turned into a false slogan and demagogued by a bankrupt political campaign to stir up its base.
Nice try, though.
Shaggy
@I Am Joe: You might want to visit 538. It is the best polling site on the web. Nate Silver uses a number of solid techniques (and he explains them all thoroughly, if you are a statistics nut like I am), and he is cautious about presenting his results. When you break it down state by state (especially, those pesky swing states)…actually, you might not want to visit that site, because according to Nate, McCain now has less than a 3% chance of winning the election.
It is fairly well known, I believe, that Zogby is generally an unreliable pollster that typically oversamples Evangelicals.
At any rate, at this point in the game, national polls are far less important than the cumulation of state polls. (There is a chance McCain might not even win Arizona, for example.) So, for you to say things like "we’ll see how this all pans out" makes me think you either 1) aren’t a fan of statistics (or don’t understand statistical techniques); 2) have never visited the 538 site; or 3) are an employee of Premier Election Solutions (formerly known as the Diebold Corporation).

If you’re planning on Zogby getting you through the night on Tuesday, you had better stock up on a lot of antacid. You’re going to need it.
I suppose your candidate is doing so well that he doesn’t need to have any boots on the ground?
(h/t to TZ for sending me this info).
By the way, TZ and I have been past the McCain HQ here in Phoenix several times (both separately and together), it looks like an abandoned building, nothing goes on there. There are no signs in the store front windows which are papered up like a Gangster operation.
CIRCVS MAXIMVS MMVIII
No matter. We know that he meant what he said. CYA is never a pretty thing.
r€nato
wait, you live here too?
r€nato
…in fairness to McCain’s campaign, they really should not have needed a Phoenix campaign operation. This state should have been in the bag long ago.
McCain 2008 is going to go down as one of the most incompetent campaigns ever. For all of Bush’s fuckups, at least they knew how to win or steal an election.

@Laura W: 24 short hours later, I am breaking up with Lawrence O’Donnell. He is now blaming Failin’s STAFF for her 7 min long nightmare chat with Canadian pranksters.
Her STAFF.
What was I thinking? Was I out of my mind? How drunk was I anyway?
He sucks.
I will never love again.
