But that only matters to the left. All the right cares about is acting the right way.

I’ve caught bits of the Sarah Palin Interview Tour on Youtube. Not exactly deep questions, they might as well have asked Palin what her favorite color is. They should ask her if she can name three people she met when she did her whirlwind UN tour. Or maybe three countries in Africa.
McCain’s people are so stupid they managed to generate sympathy for her. My loathing for Palin knows no bounds, but she was right to call them cowards. As is McCain in this regard.
Funkhauser
Nah, I’m going with "knows that choosing Palin sunk his chances, that she wouldn’t play along nicely, keeps a grudge, mumbles explanations."
The whole story about Africa I don’t buy. The NAFTA story, maybe.
amorphous
@DaveB: Favorite color: All of them
People she met: All of them
Three countries in Africa: A vast variety of countries
Jeff
@Funkhauser: Actually I’d be more apt to believe the reverse. Her words:
Comrade Scrutinizer
@Jeff: I thought that too. I’d pay to watch a video of her debate prep sessions.
I have wondered why, if the Palin dustup is so much bullshit, McCain hasn’t come out to defend her. He seems a pretty loyal sort, to people who are on his side. I guess the seeds to my answer are in that observation.
(It’s nice to be able to edit…)

the eating thier own is in full swing, note the liberal use of the ‘liberal groupthink meme’ to accuse others of being hive minds.
the ‘freindly fire’ over there iz nutz, i havn’t seen such atrocities since the communist intermuruals of the 70’s.
(where pol pot learned that perhaps putting out ap lan to wipe out the precise description of your neighbors most cherised leader after you cannibalize your population, industrial base and military capability isn’t precisly the brightest plan evar)
Comrade Jake
All I know is, I am goddamn sick and tired of seeing Palin on the teevee in the morning. Enough already. The airwaves are saturated with the stupid.
DaveB
I have wondered if they taped any of the debate preps. I would assume that would be standard practice for coaching on body language, etc.
Of course I may have answered my own question. McCain had the worst body language I’ve ever seen during the debates. He looked like he was perpetually pissed that he had to deal with this Obama twerp. Whereas Obama looked engaged, like he was interested in what his opponent had to say and couldn’t wait to respond. He even literally was at the dge of his seat at times.
I pray that Obama will be an excellent president and leader, but the campaign told me all I needed to know about what sort of president McCain would have been.
slag
Yeah. Since when has truth mattered to Republicans?
Also, Obama has his own dingbats. (just sayin)
Tom
Or maybe three countries in Africa.
This question may have made her head explode.
Reporter: Can you name three countries in Africa?
Palin: That’s a great question, I’ve always had a deep admiration for Africa and all her countries…
Inner Palin: Do countries have countries inside of them? Do he say counties? I remember those from Alaska. But I don’t think a country can have a country inside of it… unless he means like I’m going out to the country to my vacation home?
Reporter (30 seconds later): Can you name three of them… maybe one at the very SOUTH end of AFRICA?
Palin: You know, there are just so many…. all of them!
Comrade Jake
@DaveB:
If they did, we’ll never see the tapes. I’d place better odds on someone finding the "Whitey" tape. Anything that damaging has surely been destroyed beyond all recognition at this stage.
J.
You betcha!
Really, after watching these painful Palin gabfests on TV, how could you believe them not to be true?
God, if you are listening, please close that door right in Sarah’s face and lock it tighter than a New York apartment.
DonnaInMichigan
AAAAArrrrggghhh!!!!!!
I am so sick of hearing about PALIN!!!!!!
Every freaking news, cable, broadcast channel has had this twit on. Not to mention every political blog I visit, there’s at least 2 stories a day on this dipwit.
Enough!!!!!
Can we make Balloon-Juice a Palin-free blog?? Please?!?!?

.
I’m not sure. If I were the one who was in charge of the taping, I would make sure I kept at least one copy safe. The occasional hint at the existence of such a tape or mp3 could provide a lot of protection as the circular firing squad runs its course.
boonagain
Sullivan has a GREAT post on Palin.
Read THIS! BRUTAL, but very, very true
DaveB
Ah, the "Whitey" tape. An oldie but a goodie. I had an argument with a co-worker who was sure it existed. My position was that if it did exist someone could retire off what they could sell that tape for.
I was kind of hoping that Michelle Obama would come onstage at Grant Park and just go "How’s it taste, whitey"?
Tsulagi
Hey, don’t you go hating on the screech machine, there’s an ad beside your post proclaiming “Michelle Malkin is a national treasure.” PJ Media ads wouldn’t lie.
So Michelle’s problem is that McCain didn’t go bug-eyed, batshit crazy on Leno screeching over him ala Michelle while waving an Operation Leper enemies list threatening to put everyone’s name on it. Yep, they’re the serious adults. You betcha.
DaveB
If somebody does have the debate prep tapes, the bidding would probably start at a couple hundred thousand dollars. How about if we start a "Free the Sarah Palin Debate Tapes Movement". After all, she should want that so she could officially clear her name.
Roger Moore
@DaveB:
Bridgekeeper: What… is your favourite colour?
Galahad: Blue. No, yel…
[he is also thrown over the edge]
Galahad: auuuuuuuugh.
And yes, Galahad was played by Palin- Michael Palin.
DUDACKATTACK!!!
Prick up your ears, Senator McCain! A 4th-rate D-List blogger who makes shitty videos in her backyard is calling you to the carpet!
DaveB
Roger Moore,
Oh my God, that was purely unintentional, I wish to hell I had made that connection on purpose. Haven’t seen the Holy Grail in at least twenty years, will have to dig up a copy and watch it.
TenguPhule
OT: Did Paulson *ALREADY* blow through most of that $700 Billion (with a B) bailout funding?
I keep seeing references in today’s business stories about his about face on the mortages that they’ve ‘already’ gone through most of it?
Elvis Elvisberg
Wait, I thought he was pretty adamant, pretty unequivocal on the Tonight Show in saying that he was glad she was on the ticket and that she’ll play a role in the future of the GOP. That was the message I got from that interview, anyway. Was he really supposed to dig through all the Palin controversies and address all of them?
The Other Steve
I fear I’m falling in love with Michelle Malkin. She’s here every time I visit.

Why on earth would anyone think that the author of Character is Destiny would step in to stop the vilification of a woman who spent over $150,000 of other people’s money in just two months on designer boots and silk boxers, all the while ranting about the danger to America that would be posed by "redistributing wealth" away from people who earn it, a.k.a. a $500 tax credit.
Hey – if some guy like the chairman of Circuit City who made $8,000,000 per year to spin his company into bankruptcy has to pay a whole $150,000 of that in taxes just so the wealth can be "spread around" to three hundred working families, that’s marxism and must be resisted. If Sarah takes $500 each from 300 working families to buy shoes, that’s a Manolo Blahnik of a different color.
BooBooBear
@Comrade Jake
Not to be trusted anywhere else, the Palin prep tapes have been handed over to the Cheney shredding operation that is now going on. They will soon go the way of the VP email backups.
robert green
i know a person who needs to remain anon who worked (from the media side) with palin in 2006 when she was just elected governor. the last piece of the interview was to be conducted out in the woods and my friend offered to spend some money on some clothes for gov. palin. she accepted the offer and had her aide go out (in anchorage) and buy up a ton of fancy clothes, none appropriate for the interview outdoors as mooted.
the point of all this? this woman is who she is—a dopey vindictive woman who loves to spend to other people’s money on her petty needs and those of her family. it wasn’t a product of her circumstance running for vp, it was a product of sarah being sarah.

OFF TOPIC:
Iranian "SHIP OF DEATH" actually "NO BIG DEAL".
And the Wank-o-sphere sighs as another "totally awesome scoop that the liberal MSM doesn’t want you to hear" fizzles out.
Oh well, there will be another in a week or two……
Roger Moore
@TenguPhule:
I think that he’s gone through most of the initial $250 billion chunk. One of the positive changes Congress made when passing the bailout package was to pass the money out in two installments. Paulson has to go back and ask nicely for the second half of the money, and Congress can stall until the new administration comes in if they’re unhappy with the job Paulson’s been doing.

I was told by Cult Leaders during a particularly drama-filled weekend at the local Obama shop that there are "process people" and "policy people" and that I was a process person, and that’s why I had difficulty working with a particular Obama staffer who was, at heart, I guess, a policy person, and…vice-a-versa.
I never found out why they stuck us with a policy person to organize the grunt work, but that’s all past history now…we got around him and then he got reassigned, and then we won, so all is forgiven.
Maybe BTD is a policy person who mistakenly ventured into process. That can happen, I guess.
Brian J
What would be the point of holding the tape? Unless McCain did something horribly embarrassing, like piss himself, or shouted out something unseemly, like "Goddamn this n—-r!", how could it be any worse than what we saw in the debates? McCain looked like I felt that Halloween when I forgot I took two Excedrin and then started drinking.
jake 4 that 1
I don’t understand how people can be sick of Palin. Everytime she opens her mouth it riles up the Palindrones and serves as a stinging rebuke to the GOP. (This, this is what they wanted to put one heartbeat from the Oval Office!)
THeDRiFTeR
4 words. get fucking over it!
TenguPhule
@Roger Moore
Thanks, I’d forgotten about them breaking it up into bite size chunks.
Although, $250 billion in less then a month is still nothing to sneeze at.

@robert green:
Robert Green, you have been like my #1 favorite commenter across at least three blogs (poor man, BJ, S,N!) for years now. Just thought you should know, you have… a fan.
I’m not peddling some dog-earred script around, but if I were, you’re the guy I’d want to read it.

I Hate to crap in anybody’s punchbowl, but there’s some rather sad news today in the music world – Mitch Mitchell, last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has died of apparant natural causes in a Portland hotel room: http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/11/jimi_hendrixs_drummer_mitch_mi.html
RIP Mitch, and on to the greatest jam session in the sky:

Wow, Obama has Palin’s bleassing:
WASHINGTON – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has given President-elect Barack Obama a conditional vote of confidence on handling the war in Iraq.
You’ll have to pardon me while I vomit. This lying sack of crap who trashed Obama’s reputation to the point of all but accusing him of treason now says this. Of course I’m sure the mighty interviewer never brought up the obvious contradiction between what she said for the last ten weeks and her current statements. And it wasn’t the normal rough and tumble of politics. That’s a load of bullshit, she went where no national candidate has gone in my lifetime.
I know a president can’t hold grudges, and Obama doesn’t seem like the type anyway. What does comfort me is that Rahm Emmanuel apparently is very comfortable holding grudges, and that’s probably part of his job as Chief of Staff. So here’s hoping that Emmanuel can figure out ways to damage her politically, or in any other way.

OT but also under the heading of Republican Stupidity:
Crooks and Liars has got a couple of really good postings about Republicans on the (virtual) warpath.
Michael Reagan wants his legions of followers to start digging up the dirt on Obama so that they can begin impeachment proceedings (posted on 11/12 at 11:00am).
John Kyl vows to filibuster Obama’s Supreme Court nominees, even though Obama’s not president yet, hasn’t suggested any names yet, and none of the present judges has retired yet (posted on 11/12 at 10:03am).
They both fit in perfectly with John’s postings over the last few days. Very stupid republicans.
Malron
The reason John McCain won’t denounce the assault on Palin is because he’s the one who sent them after her.
RSA
I’d like to ask McCain two things with respect to the current Palin-trashing going on:
John, you told us that Sarah Palin was thoroughly vetted. Was this true, or were you just sort of covering up? If it was true, how did you manage to do such a terrible job? And if it was false, why did you keep saying it?
John, some of your advisors now seem to be saying that Sarah Palin wasn’t actually qualified to be Vice President. How long have your people thought this? Because it’s like having a family member scheduled for surgery and finding out that the assistant surgeon is seriously unqualified–and waiting until after the operation to say anything. That’s pretty cold, don’t you think?
TheHatOnMyCat
Proof that the future is rosy for Dems is that the cable whores and the Republicans keep talking about Sarah Palin.
If she is their future, then we are in for 25 years of Democratic rule in Wasington, DC.
Fine with me. Keep talking about her.
DaveB
gbear,
It should be interesting to watch the Supreme Court stuff unfold when it happens. I’m betting it might be tough to get the two senators from Maine, Chuck Hagel, and Arlen Specter to go along with him. These four seem like intelligent senators who have to be pretty disturbed to see what their own party has become. I would not be suprised to see the GOP start to implode on itself even at the senate level. Especially Specter – he must loathe a guy like Kyl
Comrade Stuck
@gbear:
Senator Kyl, OH yee of the Nuclear Option
Hypocritical wingnut asshole
Cain
Let him try. The rest of us can mock him. It’s not like his opponents have not been trying to get dirt on him for the past 2 years.
cain
tavella
Nope. He doesn’t have to ask at all; he just tells Bush he needs it, and Bush authorizes it. Then Bush drops a note to Congress telling them he did it.
The only way to actually stop it would be to get a resolution saying no through congress with a veto proof majority. Good luck!
russell's knickers
Someone in the McCain campaign needs to substantiate the allegations. Palin is doing exactly what she needs to do to rehab her image; she must know either (1) the crap said about her isn’t true or (2) it is true but McCain’s "top advisers" aren’t afraid to stand behind their accusations.
I’ll give this to her. She’s usually incoherent but she is a skilled politician. How someone so utterly ignorant of national and world affairs can have nearly half the country thinking favorably about her just boggles the mind.

I’d bet my house that anyone who may have copies of Palin’s debate prep tapes is planning on working on someone else’s presidential campaign in 2012.
And that Sullivan piece that boonagain links to in #16 does indeed raise some very important and deadly serious questions. I have as much fun snarking on Sarah Palin as anyone, but the fact remains that her presence on a national presidential ticket in and of itself represents, in many respects, one of the most disturbing threats this country has ever faced. Not funny, and not excusable.

On what McCain knows: McCain appeared in the SNL opening sketch where the second joke was Tina Fey as Palin caressing the label of her jacket and commenting, "These campaigns sure are expensive!" My belief is that McCain’s team signed off on every bit of that sketch, INCLUDING the dig at Palin’s clothes expenditures.
