This is the best description of Big Hollywood I have seen:
“But for all the bluster of all-caps headlines like “GLOBAL WARMING PROPAGANDA SINKS ‘UNDER THE SEA 3D,’ ” it’s a far less courageous site than the comparably nonconfrontational Culture11; beneath the patina of combativeness, it’s really just a support group for 24 fans.What Big Hollywood does isn’t criticism, or reporting—it’s ideological accounting.
So true. Not to step on Tbogg’s toes.

I saw Andrew Breitbart on Maher recently, and he came off as hyperactively anti-Hollywood in a weirdly unnatural way. Every time he would talk, he would seemingly string together 5-6 criticisms of Hollywood he’s got running around in his head in an unsettling stream of consciousness. Like in the sense that he’s bottling up years of anger and is finally ready to explode.
Batman
After Breitbart appeared on Maher he wrote about how impressed others were with his performance. Good times.

@Keith:
I saw him on that, too. And can I just say that he didn’t just sound anti-Hollywood in a weirdly unnatural way. He sounded completely insane and more stupid than Michelle Bachman. Michael Eric Dyson ate him alive.
He looked like a complete ass on every topic they discussed that evening. Thankfully, he mostly kept his mouth shut after Dyson OWNED him.
And to be clear, I don’t always like Dr. Dyson. But he was awesome tearing Breitbart a new asshole.

@Keith: I’ll never forget K-Lo breathlessly illuminating her readership of her anticipation of the great film, "An American Carol."

Breitbart, who has described himself as "Matt Drudge’s bitch," was terminally embittered when his script for a movie based on "Drop Kick Me, Jesus (Through the Goalposts of Life)" was laughed out of Hollywood.
Joshua Norton
Did that film ever get off the ground? It seems like it opened directly to the Blockbuster bargain bin.

that Homans article about Culture 11 is actually quite interesting. On the one hand, the cognitive dissonance-provoking concept that there are people with an actual claim to creativity and insight who still identify as "conservative"……on the other, the no-brainer end of story that their website was doomed to failure.
Zifnab
@Joshua Norton: You have to understand that they were only directly competing with Religulous and the fact that Michael Moore is super fat.
Comparing "An American Carol" to such conservative greats as The Dark Knight or Beverly Hills Chihuahua would be incredibly unfair, which is what I’d expect from an ultra-liberal trying to sabotage an amazing indie film.

@Joshua Norton:
It did open, briefly. Box office receipts for its second weekend were off more than half from its opening weekend. It made about 7mil, the pic was budgeted at 20mil. That it received a bad review from the Washington Times shows just how completely the left has infiltrated the entertainment business.

Culture11 was a joke. I once happened upon a thread where they were whining about government spending, when I pointed out that most of the states that receive more federal money than they pay in are red states. My post was deleted without any kind of response.
Interesting link to the Washington Monthly. It’s amusing to read Jonah Goldberg’s idiocy: "Once they get off, and realize they need jobs and need to actually pay rent and all that, they get a lot more conservative very quickly."
Speaking from personal experience, I’ve become less conservative with age, because I’ve been screwed over enough to know that not everyone in a dire situation got there through laziness or poor planning. Goldberg, who got where he is through nepotism and tit-suckling has not reached these conclusions. I pity anyone dumb enough to believe that Jonah Goldberg has a meaningful answer for anything.

I had to read through that whole article before I understood that the sentence should have read "a support group for 24 fans" and not "a support group for 24 fans"
I mean, the Big Hollywood site sucks, but I thought it had a few more readers than that!

@Michael D.: oh thank gawd! I thought it was just me.

@jrg:
well, that helps with the cognitive dissonance part. Whew.
I never looked at Culture 11 myself, but I guess Houmans may be coming from that new "affirmative action for conservatives" type perspective where the bar is so low that any conservative who isn’t batshit crazy gets accolades — also known as the "Ross Douthat is reasonable" phenomenon…..

I didn’t realize Culture11 had shut its proverbial doors. I never went there much, but Larison linked to them occasionally. As a result, I went in with a little more good will than they ultimately earned. For instance, I expected LadyBlog to represent a sort of feminist third way, but it just ended up sounding pouty and shrill.

Andrew Breitbart is a drooling retarded moron who wakes up, eats shit, watches FoxNews all day in a shit-stained robe & disgusting pair of boxers, throws some armor-all on his hair, and then goes out cruising for hookers & meth.

@itsbenj:
Which would be fine by me if he would just stay off the airwaves.

I would think that this would qualify as the QOTD over that Big Hollywood piece. Maybe even the QOTW.

QOTW nomination:
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: “The Lord of the Rings” and “Atlas Shrugged.” One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

I was always a lefty, but watching my workaholic dad go from 60+ hours a week to disability was one hell of an educational experience. (And not one I’d wish on my worst enemy.) I think a lot of my family has gone or stayed to the left as a result of watching my parents struggle. (And then there’s my staunch Republican ‘Obama is black!11! uncle, but we always knew he was a moron.)

I saw that. Dyson didn’t own anybody. All he did, which is what he always does btw, is confidently spew as much words for as long as possible, without pausing so as to not let anybody get a word in edgewise. When he noticed, as people usually do when he is speaking, that nobody was paying attention, given that they were so mesmerized by how little a person can say with so many words, he stopped satisfied, he proved "his point," and caught his breath.
I’ve watched him for many years now. He is an apologist, and an opportunist, nothing more. People who like him are just impressed by something that sounds intelligent and has 0 substance.
Its like that family guy episode when they had Morgan Freeman say a bunch of random things to prove his voice is pleasant saying anything (which is true btw, Freeman is a very talented actor) .
With Dyson his tone, is enough to sound like he is winning an argument when in fact he isn’t even saying anything at all.
