I can’t even figure out how to stay awake today. Had to go take a little half-conscious lie down twice already. Slept over at friends last night, which is never a good thing for me to do since I can’t even sleep in my own bed well. As soon as I finally fell in to a half-sleep, one of their dogs started barking at 5am at dog-knows-what. Proceeded to bark till 5:30am. Now see, I’m weird. When my dog starts barking, especially for no reason in the middle of the damn night when others are within earshot, I beat her till she stops, immediately. But I’m freaky about barking dogs. Is there anything worse than being in someone else’s house with three other sleeping adults and NO ACCESS to coffee at 5:30am? It was traumatic.
Accentuating the positive, prior to the night from hell, I staged NC Wine Tasting Blow Out #2 for co-workers and associates. So far we have sampled 27 wines from the state, and last night’s flight was far superior to last month’s sampling.

Yep. Me, among others. There is this weird PUMA-vibe that since HRC is the bestest most womanest woman ever, that she is the perfect candidate for any job. But aside from fact that she has no judicial experience, she failed the DC Bar exam (but later passed the Arkansas Bar) when she started out. This is not the worst thing in the world, but it is not the same thing as stellar legal credentials. Hell, Harriet Miers had a stronger resume than Clinton.
Apart from this, there is a lot of strong drumbeats for Obama to appoint a woman to the court, and one law professor interviewed on a Southern California radio news segment mentioned only women candidates as a possible nominee.
Why is it that wine never tastes like, well, wine? Actually, it sounds kinda interesting.

This may sound strange coming from a lawyer, but, I’m really kind of hoping Obama goes with someone with little to no judicial experience. I think someone with legislative experience makes a lot more sense. There is an over abundance of former executive branch officials and lower court judges on the Supreme Court, a voice urging some deference to the third branch might be in order. If only to remind Scalia and Alito that the president is not the government.

Gentlemen,
Wine evaluation and appreciation is an exercise in full sensory engagement. It is sensual, exotic, nuanced, subtle, sublime, and for some, borders on erotic. (Not me. Those other somes.)
If you are a wine lover, and a pretend wine writer, it offers the chance to paint pictures with words about what you see, smell and taste. How hot is that??
Here is one of the funniest things I have ever read. It mocks me. Oldest Living Wine Idiot Tells All. (I am “Leah”) The writer is Cornelia Read. I’m pretty sure J.D. Rhoades knows her, and probably others. This was before she got her big break in the mystery novel publishing world.

One of those 1.5 liter bottles of cheap red wine for me (Sam’s Club, Maipo, Chile, $8.67, pretty good by my palette), and some pizza, left over from a Glenn Beck event from earlier this week. These Glenn Beck people are very good people, but this particular group does not drink that much, so that means left over cheap wine. Either that or they don’t like my cheap wine.
These Glenn Beck people did eat a lot of pizza however. They polished off the better part of 1.5 kilograms of flour alone, and several pounds of cheese. So this means I have lots of booze, and not much food left over, which is fine by me. Cheers.
In the previous thread, I did not mean to deny Laura W. a sign, the signs were assigned to recent thread responses. If I were to make Laura W. a sign, it would be ‘intriguing’. Glenn Beck has a show on tonight that shows participants in his effort. They seem representative of what I’ve experienced, if you are curious. Home with a cold. First freaked out and went to my doctor yesterday. She assured me it couldn’t be the dreaded Swine Flu but still swabbed my throat and nose and sent the samples off to a lab for analysis. Gave me a prescription for Tamiflu just in case. The pharmacist took one look and laughed – “no pharmacy I know has this in stock and I don’t know when we’ll get it,” she says. Very reassuring. Decided to work from home.
Had a whole bunch of leftovers, so I made this chicken and corn fried rice with lemon spinach recipe from Ming Tsai (of Blue Ginger fame) with some substitutions. I used a bag of mixed carrots, peas & corn instead of just corn, added some raisins and shrimp (because I didn’t have enough ground chicken), tossed in 1 scotch bonnet pepper (to help clear out my sinuses), and a teaspoon of curry in addition to the powdered ginger. It has a whole bunch of interesting textures, and I think it tastes pretty good but my tastebuds aren’t working properly right now.

It’s a freakin’ fictional comic book character. There is no rational reason for anyone to insist on authenticity. What, you want a movie with dialog balloons instead of sound?
And I am not knocking comics. I worship at the shrine of Jack Kirby.
But some of this reminds me of a moron who, on talking about the actors on “Star Trek:Voyager,” objected to Tim Russ as Tuvok because everyone knew that there were no black Vulcans.
I am teasing a bit. I understand the sentiment, but the two toughest things to write about, perhaps, are music and wine (and food), and the worst writing easily falls into the ridiculous search for metaphors trying to convey the experience.
But I have some friends who are professional cooks, others who are talented amateurs, and one co-worker and friend who has won chilli cook-offs. And over the years, you would be surprised at how often “taste this,” “mmm!” and “Delicious!!” suffice.

In what language does two women on SCOTUS mean “white men need not apply”?
Want some rinse with that spin?
Why do you feel so threatened by smart, successful women?
Does it bother you that two women on the Supreme Court might take bodily autonomy a bit too seriously?
Why do you write, “White men need not apply”? Are you playing the race card?

@Brachiator: Well, there is a big freaking difference between 5’4″ and being over 6′ tall. Excuse the fuck out of me if I want this one salient characteristic to be correct. Short men need love, too! I’m not suggesting they adhere faithfully to the comics, but the height thing is a pretty important feature of Wolverine. Maybe your attitude is one of the reasons I don’t like movies in the first damn place.
P.S. There is a rational reason to ask for some authenticity–those of us who enjoy the comics might, oh, I don’t know, actually enjoy a movie that has some of the same characteristics? Come on, man. You can do better than this.
P.P.S. Bite me.

By the way, in a recent Newsweek column, George Will tries the genteel pseudo-historical approach to trying to demonstrate that Obama is not the legitimate president (The Final Repudiation: Americans should ponder the profound implications of the long evolution, through six stages, of the presidential-selection process.):

John, if you have eggs, you can make an omelet or a frittata and a salad.
If you want to plan for impulse meals in the future, put some good, basic thin-crust pizzas in your freezer — just cheese, or cheese and mushroom, maybe. Put some pre-sliced cooked chicken or ground meat in there, too.
Then on blah nights like tonight, preheat the oven, put the meat in the microwave to thaw, finely slice or chop some nice fresh veggies, then put the thawed meat and veggies on top of the basic pizza. During the 10-15 minutes the pizza is in the oven, make a salad or heat some soup. Dead easy.

Worth watching the video, just to see a horse do what she can do. Her jockey never moves a muscle on her.

I love it that most of the shortlists I have skimmed so far just assume it will be a woman – as I think it should.
Down here, two years after kicking out our weasel PM and his shitty government (true friends to George W.), we’ve had some significant female appointments or elections – Governor General (our titular head of state), Deputy Prime Minister (and Acting Prime Minister), a High Court (read: Supreme Court) appointment which brings us to three women out of seven Justices.
There was no tokenism in any of those cases – just a (belated) recognition here that there were women who could do the job just as well (or better).

For me, dinner was soft tacos with a beer.
My Friday night and the rest of the weekend are consumed with studying for the rest of law school finals and severely chastising myself for choosing to go to a school that, amongst its many charms:
1. Is the 6th most conservative law school in the nation – I get to listen to unhinged opinions on a daily basis that make Erick Erickson sound sane and reasonable (and those are just some of the professors)
2. Requires us to learn not just one system of law (as if that’s not enough) but TWO – concurrently!
3. Has the distinction of having had Jay Bybee teach Con Law
On a lighter note, I ran across something that made me laugh my ass off today:

And I’m not a wine person, I prefer Spanish Rioja’s and other fruity reds (generally with a strong blackberry or plum sensation) you can make a great Sangria with but if you want to try a dry, yet smooth white that is top notch for under $15 you absolutely can not go wrong with this:
Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc
I have the 2006, haven’t tried the 2008. It’s got a great apple overtone with a little citrus flavor. Not too much oaky taste. IMO, a nice velvety start, exploding fruit middle, and a finish that is easy and not bitter at all. A lot of whites I’ve tried have a bitter finish but this doesn’t.
Seriously, I’ll stake my BJ rep (!) on this white. It’s about the only one I’ve found that I’ll actively go to Spec’s and buy (as opposed to the Holiday gift bottle).

Srsly, I freaking love cellos in general and when I can belt out metal lyrics to a kick ass cello driven beat I’m in heaven. The only thing that would push me closer to bliss in a musical sense would be if I could play the banjo.

Five years ago I would occasionally go to dinner with people who made a big deal over different wines. The one I found to be my favorite was the non-cheap Sterling Cabernet (~$28). Clos du Bois Cabernet was good (~$14). But, being as objective as I can after a couple of glasses of this Sam’s Club Vina Maipo $8.67/1.5 liter stuff, good on Mr. Walton. One time a very expensive glass of wine was presented to me and it was very good, but I guess it takes talent to appreciate the nuances.
One of the attendees at this week’s Glenn Beck event was a very fit mother of a special forces officer and two medical doctors. This woman went goo goo over the following pizza dough recipe:

She ate a very impressive amount of pizza, and I humbly submit my dough recipe, honed over a decade, for the Balloon Juice cookbook at zero cost. I read a great piece by a corporate attorney a while back that explained, quite well I thought, the important functions that corporate attorneys provide. Can’t find it now, of course, but it was pretty awesome. For example, at the beginning of the Gitmo trials many of the detainees were represented by lawyers from big corporate firms pro bono.
My choice wasn’t motivated by any kind of an idea that corporate work is necessarily bad, it’s just that I’ve spent the vast majority of my life working in jobs that were great fun but not all that meaningful. Now that I’m at an age where the 80’s seem like yesterday and after spending last year in the Middle East, that kind of work just speaks to me.
I think it’s pretty amazing that so many corporate attorneys take the time to volunteer their services even though there is great pressure to make billable hours. Kudos to you!

Oh God, me too.
Tattoosydney
@Wini:
Heavens. That’s difficult. Hard work obviously doesn’t scare you.
It certainly helps to get in early and get a law job if you can. Law firm paralegal is good, but means you never get to experience not being a lawyer in a law firm. I worked for a judge before I started with a firm, and it taught me a lot (and made me marketable). None of it prepares you for the shock of finding out that law school taught you bugger all about actually being a lawyer.
Corner Stone
@asiangrrlMN:
This is a convo that will never end in resolution, obviously. However, I must contend that the “ready” part is just unfair, at least physically. If a female chooses to go again, what do they have to do? Basically say yes and then go for it. Males have a little physiological issue, especially as they age. Mentally it may be a different story as I’ve been with partners who were done after they ended once. I either matched that or was unsatisfied.
More creative and imaginative? Hmmm, the mind boggles.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Hush. How can you not want to shag the Boss?
Tattoosydney
@South of I-10:
I hope everything works out ok.
Wini
@Tattoosydney: Yes! Here
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Numb. Nice.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: Yeah, I will give you the first one. Maybe that’s why it was my serious girlfriend who was the closest to matching me in sex drive. I am talking more about frequency as in wanting it every day vs twice a week kind of thing. OK, twice a day would be nice, but I’m not that greedy. I have been surprised that many guys like talking about sex more than they actually like to do it. As for creativity, I like many positions, toys, etc. Let’s leave it at that.
We can agree that Helen Mirren is yummy.
@Tattoosydney: Oh, I’d do him–I just don’t care for his music. I’m actually not that hot for him, strangely enough. Numb is very nice.
Wini
@Tattoosydney: All excellent advice. It feels good to have some kind of plan/timeframe, even though it’s a bit murky and jobs aren’t exactly falling from the sky ;-)
Corner Stone
Not to break the blog or anything but I just pulled off the frackin trifecta. I just made the world’s greatest fettucini w/ meat sauce AND I made a pitcher of the yummiest dirty martini’s known to modern Western civilization.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: You cook? Very nice. I’ll take a huge heaping of the fettucini, but I’ve never had it with meat sauce.
Corner Stone
@Wini: I’ll just add in here that in the States clerking for a judge is really excellent on your resume but being a paralegal will get you nothing but scorn in the top tier firms.
Tattoosydney
@TX Expat:
Law firms (for the most part) are a profit making machine, but one that follows ethical rules (duties to the law, duties to the court, duties to your client, duties to your colleagues).
Most of them are quite committed to community work. We count approved pro bono work as full billable hours, so lawyers get full credit for doing it. We are involved in three or four different support programs that I am aware of – advising street kids on dealing with fines, reading to kids… all sorts of stuff. While it’s good for the law firm’s image, it’s also about giving all the people in the firm an opportunity to do something good and a little bit selfless.
Meaning is nice. So is liking your job. It’s all good.
I don’t know about that. I don’t do enough.
No problem. There tend to be a fair few lawyers on here – we all come out of the woodwork for some threads, so if you have a legal(ish) question, you can usually provoke a discussion on an open thread.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Isn’t everyone?
Corner Stone
@asiangrrlMN: Oh mommy. I cook 3 or 4 nights a week. I have several dishes that I would not be ashamed to serve to friends/family/dates/visiting foreign diplomats.
I have promised myself that one day when things settle a little that I’m going to a culinary school. Not to be a working chef but just to learn all the little things that make a meal extra special. I can deliver a hell of an entree but timing the vegetable side dishes, and presentation of those dishes, is still something I’m working on.
It’s like any specialty – the laymen knows to do A,B,C then D but the pro knows if you do A,C,B then D everything works better.
IOW, I love to cook.
Montysano
@South of I-10: Yeah, South, we’ve got confirmed cases of swine flu here as well. Schools were closed Thursday and Friday, supposed to reopen on Monday. The exception is the school where all the cases were found; it’s closed until further notice.
I was down in LA (Lower Alabama) the past few days, and today I see an old beat-up pickup going down the road, with two Bubbas wearing military style gas masks. This was their flu strategy, I guess. I shot a perfect cell phone photo, full of Win, and then forget to hit the Save button. I’m a dunce.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Yes, but unlike you, my dear pretend hubby, I’d actually do her.
Corner Stone, you live in Texas, if I remember correctly. I probably don’t. See, I don’t cook, so it always perks my interest to hear of someone who does.
Wini
@Corner Stone: Hmm, well it’s a good thing that I’m looking for a law clerk position at a firm or corp. I’m not sure with the number of people looking for work right now they would hire a law student into a paralegal position anyway? I do appreciate the advice.
Tattoosydney
@Wini:
No. When the lawyers start to cut back on hiring you know it’s bad.
Tattoosydney
@Corner Stone:
Is “paralegal” seen as a dead end job in the US?
Here it is usual for law students in their second last year who want to work in a firm to do a clerkship, then work as a paralegal until they graduate, and then be hired as a lawyer…
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Believe it or not, she’s on my “would do if I had the chance” list, along with Catherine Deneuve and Isabella R. Apparently the tattered remains of my straight libido have a thing for “older” women.
Corner Stone
@Wini: No, different phylo all together, even though I’ve known several paras who went on to law school.
I can only speak for US based firms but they are all deferring hires of baby atty’s. You either have to fill a need or be a superstar to get through right now.
And I can say baby atty’s because I’m not an atty.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Really? That’s pretty cool. I don’t know why, but it is.
Corner Stone
@Tattoosydney:
No, not at all. A para can bill upwards of $200 USD in top tier firms and make a decent salary. BUT, no partner I’ve ever met EVER started their law career as a para.
Paralegals are needed and necessary but looked down on by attys. And again, I’m neither a para nor atty.
Corner Stone
@Tattoosydney:
Good God TS but you are fucking representing here. CD and IR? Holy shit but that’s a hetero’s frackin dream duo.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: Heh. The gay guy is representing for the straight guys. Funny.
Corner Stone
@asiangrrlMN: I just posted this but it got EATED, so apologia if it doubles up.
Personally, I’m calling my shot – asiangrrlMN + harlana pepper.
But maybe we should wait to see how her date turns out.
Tattoosydney
@Corner Stone:
Our terminologies and our legal systems are very different. Even though I work a lot with US lawyers, a lot of the way the US system works remains a mystery to me, and most of what I know about US law (except for a little employment and industrial law) I learned from Boston Legal.
Corner Stone
@asiangrrlMN: And yeah, I don’t give a frack who you are. If you’re calling on CD and IR – you’re a frackin heterosexual. Or maybe just a lover of all things 100% awesome. Because that is awesome.
Corner Stone
@Tattoosydney: Bwah-ha-ha!
That’s not against you, just against the impossibility of a partner continually risking the viability of a partnership firm.
Man, I could and someday might, write a detailed book on law firms and partners. The latter day Scott Turow. Or something.
More like a “Fuck youse guys” guide to greedy SOB firms.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: Heh! Now that’s funny. Hm. We haven’t heard back from her, have we? Inquiring minds wanna know. However, I am not hot for Melanie Griffith, and harlana pepper says that’s who she looks like.
Did you see on the music thread that demimondian posted the Google analytics for BJ? 86% of the visitors are male. This is probably why John doesn’t do a hook-up thread.
Corner Stone
Can I just say that Saffron Burrows? I’m totally diving into the water to save her fine ass. That mofo’ng shark would be getting the business from me.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: You can say it. I don’t agree with you. I would rather save Kate:
http://www.hollywood-celebrity-pictures.com/Celebrities/Kate-Winslet/Kate-Winslet-41.JPG
Tattoosydney my one American female hottie is Susan Sarandon. She fits your demographics.
Tattoosydney
Joan Chen is also on this list – I had a thing for Janine Turner until I found out she was a wingnut.
Mind you, the collective chances of me ever meeting any of them, their eyes lighting up at the sight of me, and them grabbing my hand and making a beeline for the nearest bed, are pretty damn small.
And I’d throw over a night with all five of them for five minutes watching Chris Evans wash a car with his shirt off.
Corner Stone
@asiangrrlMN: Personally I think that Cole knows if he unleashes the beast that this blog is done.
Myself, possibly you and others will drive off all the literal yahoos like binzinerator and brachiator, other -tor’s, et al, and this space will devolve into hot, steamy, blog sex that never reaches fruition.
So, I get why he’s scared for a dedicated perv thread. Fuck me but I could unleash some shit that may or may not land us all in Gitmo.
So, anyways. We’ll have to cheese off other threads as possible I guess.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Joan Chen, yum. You are definitely gay, though, if you prefer one Chris Evans over the collective four women (I don’t count Janine Turner) listed above.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
This.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: Yeah, ok, I guess. I think John is just scared! Yes, John, I’m calling you out. It’s ok, he’s on the other thread now.
It would be funny to see how squirmy people would get. Oh well. John posts open threads often enough. We can do our damage there.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: I like it, but are you telling me that you’re really not gay? That you’ve been pretending this whole time?
Corner Stone
@Tattoosydney: That’s only four. And Joan Chen? My friend either I have homosexual sensibilites regarding hot as hell women, or you just have good old fashioned hetero lust/taste.
And, yeah, he’s cute.
Tattoosydney
@Tattoosydney:
and this….
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
No coded messages. Just a dirty remix that I thought you might like.
Phoebe
I recommend “I Love You, Man”.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Ok, you’re a het in gay clothing, right? Dang, but that song is hot.
Tattoosydney
@Corner Stone:
I was inviting Janine along as well. She doesn’t have to talk.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Fucking hell. There’s 154 posts in a new thread I hadn’t realised existed. How the hell am I going to read all that?
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: You know me frightenly well by now.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: It’s all best albums. I was surprised you didn’t check it out.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Just because you don’t want to sleep with women doesn’t mean you don’t know what turns on the people who do want to sleep with them!
(Wait… did that make sense?)
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Strangely enough, it did.
Woah, dude, have you seen the video to the original version of Wrong? Creepy!
Jen R
How does Google Analytics know if you’re male or female?
asiangrrlMN
@Jen R: I have no idea. I’m not even sure how they get the rest of the info.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
I just posted my list. I hadn’t realised it was going on!
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Profoundly.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Yeah, I saw you were gaying up the list. I refused to participate on the grounds that I am a freak enough as it is.
AnneLaurie
Pshee, Cole, I didn’t say Obama would do it — especially since Joe Biden embarrassed himself almost as shamefully as that nutsack Specter during the infamous hearings — but it would be entertaining to hear the weeping of the fReichtards & the lamentations of their Talibangelicals if he did. Yes, I’m quite sure Obama will find some sterling & unimpeachable candidate that only the farthest fringes will be able to work up any sincere objections over, but producing a shortlist of such S&U C’s is not, thank the Ghoddess, my responsibility. (And even so, I would probably do a better job than the Masshole chauvinists who are seriously talking about Deval Patrick, of all unlikely choices.)
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Especially the last few frames. Brr. I can’t wait to see what my subconscious makes of that tonight.
Jen R
OK, I actually went and looked at that link, and it’s … baffling. They (supposedly) know the gender of the people who visit and how many kids they have, but can’t tell that BJ doesn’t belong in “Shopping > Flowers Gifts & Greetings > Parties & Occasions”?
I call shenanigans.
asiangrrlMN
@AnneLaurie: Yeah, we told him to loosen up, sheesh. It was just for fun.
@Jen R: Yeah. I am not sure what was up with that link. I definitely think we have more women than 16% would indicate.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
I haven’t made much of a secret of my (rather odd) musical tastes
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
I can only guess there are a lot of male lurkers who don’t comment. The discussion has always seemed pretty evenly split between men, women and noms de plume of indeterminate gender…
Tattoosydney
@Tattoosydney:
Then again, the suggestion that 98% of us have children at home is laughable.
Corner Stone
OT – if there can be an Off Topic question in an Open Thread – is there a worse male actor in modern times than John Travolta? Geez, watch Face/Off one time if you don’t believe me.
Nic Cage is much worse but he has no pretensions at being an actor, even though the Academy has blasphemed him to be one at least twice.
Brachiator
@Corner Stone:
Yawn. I’ve had random thoughts more sensual than any of the erotic musings that I scanned in this thread. And why talk or write about anything that you could be simply doing?
I don’t begrudge you poppinjays your little reveries, but my personal motto is similar to this little exchange from Reversal of Fortune:
Alan Dershowitz: You are a very strange man.
Claus von Bülow: You have no idea.
Oh, and here are a couple of Stones clips for everyone to enjoy:
Monkey Man
And of course, Memo from Turner, from Performance.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: You misread it. It said that 98% of the respondents do not have children at home. Which also seems laughable.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: Adam Sandler, Pauly Shore, to name two. If you mean ‘serious actor’, then Mel Gibson is near the top in that category, too.
Corner Stone
@Brachiator: Oh man. You burned me with this one.
asiangrrlMN
@Corner Stone: You’re cracking me up in the music thread. Keep it up.
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Ah. I may still be hung over.
Tattoosydney
@Corner Stone:
Yep. I particularly liked “popinjays”. That hurt.
And you deserved it for your “literal yahoos” crack, btw.

This is mine, 1998 Super Glide, 17K miles, 80 cubic inches or 1340CC. I haven’t owned this one long, 30 years ago I fit my life around riding – as much as 30K miles in one year in N SF Bay area. I ran with a fast crowd, liars, cheats, and thieves need not have applied, but definitely around a corner from sanity and other forms of responsibility.
bago
Heh, I am at an erotic art festival and just ran into a midget. Also ran into the owner of the bed I woke up in, with what I assume is her secondary. It was amusing.
Brachiator
@asiangrrlMN:
By the way —
Gee. This discrepancy didn’t appear to bother many of the millions who enjoyed the first X-Men films (even if the last one was kinda sucky).
I love movies and comics, so I’m not getting into a fight with you over this, and certainly not seeking to diminish your enjoyment of whatever it is you like. I’m just sayin’ that comics and movies are different media, and I don’t need a movie to slavishly mimic the comic, or even adhere to it in any particular way. What would be the point?
Any art that is worth anything (and comix is art) allows room for interpretation and even distortion. It’s all about the particular performance. Consider the various versions of Robin Hood, King Arthur, Sherlock Holmes or the Batman. Or His Girl Friday, in which the gender of one of the main characters is switched and everything still works just fine. Authenticity? Yeah, right.
Break all the rules.
You first.
bago
Woke up in this morning.
Corner Stone
@Tattoosydney: Oh TS, I disagree. Have you seen the way brachiator argues with people? He sections off pieces of an argument and breifly disdains them as irrelevant. He doesn’t bother to address them if they don’t fit into his meme.
B and B are definitely guilty of being overly literal for a damn intertrons blog.
Corner Stone
@bago: And got myself a gun?
gwangung
Ah. Joan Chen. Hot as hell, twice as smart, four times as driven. Makes your typical Asian overachievers look like pikers.
She’s a friend of a friend, which is perfect material and positioning to drive me absolutely crazy….
Brachiator
@Corner Stone:
Golly gee, for the most part I don’t come here to argue, but simply to participate in generally interesting conversations. And for some things, which are purely matters of taste, there is no point in arguing.
But in other places, I am not disdaining another person’s argument, but trying to suggest that if you shift your frame of reference a bit, you might find that you can accommodate something that you think is incompatible.
As for needing stuff to fit my meme, again I have to tip my hat to what I learned from the Firesign Theater: Everything you know is wrong. Which is to say that if I picked up the newspaper tomorrow and every news story definitively demonstrated that every belief I held was incorrect or had been proven to be based on bad assumptions, my only reaction would be, “Kewl.” I learned this, by the way, from an anthropology professor who had years of his work elegantly negated by another professor’s analysis of hominid fossils. My professor was actually excited to have been so dramatically shot down, and having to re-assess spurred him to do new and better work.
But loving the shock of the new, of course, makes me permanently ineligible to be a member of the Republican Party.
As always, your mileage may vary.

Can’t edit posts on my phone.
Corner Stone
@Brachiator: I gotta tell you – you’re starting to sound a little like a cross between ThymeZone and some other old jackass.
Of course you come here to argue. So do I and almost everyone else here but room temp IQ’s like binzinerator. I think that one comes here to prove how relevant he/she/it is.
if you didn’t come to argue then you wouldn’t keep referring to HRC the way you do. Fuck you, BTW.
Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
ETA – I just realized who the other jackass was – BoB. Your post sounds like a cross between TZ and BoB. Are you sure you’re not another sockpuppet for TZ?
Holy sweet mother of mercy! What if you and BoB both are sockpuppets for TZ?!?
What if everyone here is a sockpuppet for TZ?? I could be the only one…the only one left…

Open threads here on B-J have taken a strange turn. My word, yes.
