So I was talking about Eliot Spitzer to my mother, and since he is not a Steeler, Pirate, or Penguin, she had no clue who he was and had no idea there was a scandal. Apparently it was not covered on ESPN or ESPN2.
At any rate, I told her he was the Governor of NY and he had been caught up in a prostitution ring, and she asked how he was involved. I told her he was a john and that these were high-priced hookers charging $1,000-5,000 and hour. What follows is her verbatim response:
“Good Lord!
Good Lord!
He was obviously paying too much. What can you possibly do for $5,000 an hour? Surgery. Life-saving surgery performed on me is worth $5,000 an hour.
Good Lord”
So now you all know where I got my common sense. Consider this an open thread.
TheFountainHead
I think surgery qualifies as an “unsafe sex practice”. Not my cup of tea, really, but hey, to each his own.
SteveinSC
Nicole Belle at C&L says this Spitzer thing seems to have an odd aroma about it and the media hysteria is taking on proportions not seen in the Vitter case. Hmm.
Garrigus Carraig
John Cole’s mom FTW
Tsulagi
Yeah, but mom didn’t see the hooker. If seeing the hooker in question you said “Good Lord!”, some things override common sense. Thank you, Jesus!
dslak
This helps explain why Sully is so unhinged about Hillary. The Clintons were exploiting fear of teh ghey before Rove honed that strategy.
Faux News
I dunno Tsulagi. John’s mom has a point. 5K can buy a lot of beer and porn. No worry about STDs.

The odd aroma is the fact that C&L does not like it when a Democrat is swiftboated (Has inconvenient facts exposed).
Forge ahead you wonderful nutroots, fight the “swiftboating” of Eliot Spitzer.

We should all be so lucky as to have sports-obsessed women in our lives.
TheFountainHead
John, tell me you’re all over this! I have you pegged as a Sinbad fan. And really, do the American people have any reason not to trust him?
Jen
The “odd aroma” to me is supposedly repeated cash outlays of $4,300 or so by a man making $179k a year. Not a bad salary, but clearly a splurge. So was any of this money diverted from elsewhere, or does his wife not pay much attention to the finances, or what?
D-Chance.
I didn’t realize that Vitter was on the short list of possible Democrat veeps this election cycle…
Also, did Vitter get any less press than his fellow Louisiana Congressman, William Jefferson (of “cold cash” fame)?
It’s quite telling how thin the soup is when the best Liberals can come up with is “well, he did it, too!” and “but, but… don’t TALK about it! Oh, and he did it, too!”
Jen
Also, you should rename the post “SPITzer Take.”
Anytime, really, I aim to please.
DougJ
I don’t think Sinbad has crossed the commander-in-chief threshold yet, but there’s plenty of time between now and Denver.

Actually it was money well spent. We should note that none of the hookers talked. Spitzer should have paid his bankers equally well and he might not be in this mess.

Spitzer wasn’t either, you fucking moron.

OT but since Jenis here….
I’ve made arrnangements to pay the $25 fee I offered for convincing information that Jen is a girl.
I have recieved such information and the matter is closed.
What information it was, where I got it, and what triggered my spoof alert mechanism, all classified.
As for Jen, all I can say is, if Jen isn’t a girl then the spoof is not detectable by me at this point and I bow to a master. Good work.
Ugh
Spitzer’s parents are/were uber-rich.
Z
Your mother is AWESOME! She sounds like a Mid-westerner! I swear, if Spitzer’s wife had been a Mid-westerner, she would have first screamed at him for spending THAT much money on a hooker and then yelled about the adultery.
D-Chance.
BTW, McCain goes on a trip to Europe and the Middle East next week. He’ll be accompanied by a couple fellow senators, ONE of whom will, in all probability, be his veep pick. And it’s not Joe Lieberman.

Well, there was some…Tony Kornheiser said his tramp stamp is a picture of Spitzer…

You are *such* a weirdo, TZ.

I’m interested to know Mom’s opinion regarding “sex scandals”. Seems to me that the party that’s against “gay” marriage most often gets trapped with male/male involvements. The Dems seem to go for male/female encounters. Is Vitter a closet Dem?

And here I thought that phrase applied to when one endeavors to make one’s girlfriend laugh immediately after she — oh, never mind.

Not really, but if you think so,I don’t care.
Actually I’m a persona, you know nothing about the person who writes my character. Do you?
I’ve twice explained in considerable deatail my rationale for challenging you as a spoof. I saw no effort on your part to discuss any of it. We live on a blog where spoofing is ubiquitous, there’s nothing weird about it at all. I happen to enjoy detecting spoofs.
What’s weirdis that you would come to a place that is crawling with spoof, and act like it’s weird to be on the lookout for spoof. What’s weird about it? Isn’t it weirder NOT to be on the lookout for spoofs? To talk to handles that are completely anonymous, and are jerking you around with made up stuff, and not question it?
You are aware that 2-3 dozen posters here over the years have engaged in offline (off-blog) communication on a regular and organized basis?
Drop the faux raised eyebrows. I put my money where mouth was, and I conceded. That’s it.
Paul L.
So using your logic, Barney Frank, Gerry Studds and James McGreevey are Republicans.

$5k seems like a lot, but I guess it depends on what you’ve got. Those women are stupendously hot. (I’ve heard people say that since you can’t see their faces, they must be homely. This is doubly silly. First off, there are perfectly obvious reasons a working girl would want to conceal her identity. Secondly, look at those photos. They didn’t have a friend snap those photos with a cheap camera at their trick pad. Those are shots from their portfolios, most of them looked like catalog photos. These girls are professional models. They’re going to have pretty faces.)
Fact is, if I could have one of them for the sort of money I walk around with, I’d do it. So I guess if I were the sort of person who carried $5k as walking around money (and Spitzer probably is), then it wouldn’t seem so crazy.
Hell, I spent $25k on my last car. Ten years ago I’d have thought that was a lot. I suppose someone who has ten times as much money as me buys a ferrari with about as much thought.

I think the press has misrepresented the $5000 per hour figure. An article I read left me thinking that the charge was actually $4200 and this included travel time (figure 10 hours to and from NYC-DC) and the quoted fee included her travel expenses (I believe she had her own room foe the night at the Mayflower) and of course train tickets and assorted other T&E costs.

I’m inclined to agree. In fact, my best guess was that she provided no more than a few minutes of entertainment, but the five grand represented a night’s earnings for her to pass on to her pander.
Still, that only makes her hourly figure more eye popping…

michael: Yeah, the $5k figure comes from a simple inspection of the website, which quotes varying rates for the girls, the most expensive of which is north of $5k.

I guess it depends on why you’re here. I just like reading funny and interesting takes on things. I’m not really here for financial planning advice or anything. In most cases, I don’t really care who anyone is, much less see the significance of their gender. As far as I can tell, my gender is what you thought I was spoofing. Oh, yes, and you disputed the knitting. Because it’s such a thrill to make up mundane hobbies for my persona. Also, I read from a BAR/BRI book every night to hone my lawyer spoof and steal cute kid anecdotes from mommy blogs for my mommy spoof. It’s time-consuming, but just so worth it!
So, your hobby is spoof detection on blog commentary threads, fine, but yes, I can think of better uses for one’s time. And you could’ve given that $25 to the MUP.

Excerpts from NY Times Article: Affidavit: Client 9 and Room 871
The money he had promised to pay would cover all expenses: the room, the minibar, room service should they order it, the train ticket that had brought her from New York and, naturally, her time.
…
An assignation of more than an hour ensued, according to the affidavit
…
The appointment was originally booked for four hours and, as Client 9 made his way toward the room, Ms. Lewis asked Kristen to send her a text message when he left. Kristen sent her a message at 12:02 a.m., the appointment having lasted more than an hour.

What a ridiculous fucking thing to say. You have no idea what my hobbies or interests are, do you?
I’M A PERSONA, you idiot. There is no such person named ThymeZone, you do get that, right?
Hobbies? Cars, piano, civil war stuff, photography, big band jazz recordings, Italian cooking. I have a lot of hobbies.
I have an interest in blogging and blog activities, I belong to a mailing list that includes many other posters here who keep up a conversation on the same topics.
You think it’s “weird?” Spoofing is a major force in blogging right now. It has changed the blog dynamic out there on political sites in the last two years.
If you want to come to a blog where spoofing has a long tradition, and is being practiced — on you — on a daily basis, and announce that it’s “weird” to be interested in in it, that’s up to you.
I disagree, I think it’s “weird” to be in a spoofatorium and act like everything you see here is real.
Well, I did, at the request of the person who claimed it.
Along with $1000 so far of my money in the last couple months, I need no lectures from you on that subject.
Anything else?

As I was reading the first reports of what he was paying, I said to my wife, “$3450 for a hooker! Man, I could buy a really good new laptop for that price.” My wife laughed and commented that it was clear to see what my priorities were.

I didn’t say that. I said I didn’t care. A joke is a joke, an observation is an observation, and I don’t really care if you say you’re in NYC and really you’re in Arkansas.

Okay, so ThymeZone’s hobby is spoof detection. The person responsible for ThymeZone has nothing to do with spoof detection. That person is off looking at cars while cooking pasta puttanesca and listening to Glenn Miller, wondering why the hell ThymeZone cares so much about my gender. I understand now. Cheers and limoncello.

Sensible woman, your mother. And the Rabbit Pearl comment was mine, where I said that for $5000, I could buy a week in Paris with enough left over for a Rabbit Pearl. What could any paid fuck-bunny do to top that?

So Krista and Jen aren’t the same person?
Brachiator
According to the NY Times transcript, this is what you get for your money (Affidavit: Client 9 and Room 871)
By way of comparison, British model and TV personality once admitted that she was paid 5,000 UK pounds to have sex, in a deal set up by an Italian madam. In 2007, her modeling career hit the skids when she was caught on a secretly recorded video offering to have sex for 10,000 UK pounds (Sophie Anderton).
I’m not sure she would be worth it, but one of her boyfriend supposedly made the following comment:
Jen
Yeah, I don’t even know what a Rabbit Pearl is, although I like rabbits and pearls. Watership Down is one of my favorites. Of course, you don’t have any way of knowing whether or not that’s actually true, do you? Bwahahaahahahaha
Krista, did you have that paper that you can put things on and leave it out in the sun and the sun will fade the paper leaving only the color of whatever you put on the paper? I am beginning to think I might’ve been a bit spoiled as a child, btw.

Yep, pretty much. Finally learning, after all these years, Moonlight Serenade on the piano. For some reason the tune just eluded me for about fifty years. At first I didn’t really get how great a tune it was, and then I heard it played differently on the radio one day and was sort of blown away by it. I think Miller was just a young guy in his 20’s when he wrote it, which is also sort of astounding.
Puttanesca is not my favorite dish, but I have made it many times. I don’t do it well for some reason, but I’ve had some in NYC Little Italy that was awesome. Maybe it was just the atmosphere.
And, cars? Heh. Even people who know me don’t really know what a completely insane car nut I really am. I study cars through their entire lifecycle, from concept to design alternatives to prototypes to production to the street to the track and the shop. Been doing that since I was a kid.
Now, why am I telling you all this? Because you and I both know that this stuff is about ten thousand times more interesting than knitting, don’t you agree?
And that sort of describes a lot about you and me, don’t you think so?
But please, keep up the witty repartee. It’s good practice for when you might need it.

Look, it’s really easy to see why, if you were a highly prominent public official with a wife & kids, you’d shell out $5k for a prostitute.
At $5k, the prostitute has no communicable diseases, will not expect you to buy her presents, will not want you to buy dinner, take her to a show, or even be seen in public with her. She will not get pregnant, blackmail you, or give your name up. (hopefully!) She will not talk about anything you don’t want to talk about, or even talk at all if that’s what you want. She will never ask you to leave your wife, she will never call your office or your home or your cell phone. She will never show up at your place or work or follow you around town to “run into you” at some random location. If she’s a pro, not only will she not name names, but she will also never discuss specific acts or relate details of conversations to anyone, ever!
If you’re a highly prominent public official, high-priced prostitute is a better choice than secretive affair any day! Unless, you know, you’re mayor of New York, in which case publicly-funded security details for secret rondevoius is less offensive & illegal than paying for play with your own money.
Nikki
Actually, RodeoBob, I don’t agree. Affairs are usually love matches or tend to become one. For the price he was paying, he could’ve kept a mistress who recognized that it was a business arrangement. He could’ve kept an apartment for her, paid her, and had access to her at all times with the same no pregnancy, no STDs, model looks, ability to carry a conversation, etc. And, it wouldn’t have been illegal. There are still women out there who can tell the difference between a business arrangement and a love affair.

I have to agree with RodeoBob here. Read any memoir by a madam, from the Mayflower Madam to Heidi Fleiss to Babydoll Gibson. An encounter with an escort is not an affair of the heart. Discretion is everything.
Mistresses get demanding. And they get older. And when they decide to get even, all hell can break loose (Sex, lies and DVDs shake culture ministry in Greece):
As to this interesting statement:
This is exactly why men (and not a few women) go for escorts. They are not looking for a secondary spouse. They are just looking for someone with professional skills to help them get off.

My apologies for turning the Champagne Room into a common bawdy house.
As many powerful New Yorkers have made plain, one doesn’t merely engage in intercourse–leave that to the proles. Instead, one constructs a sexual infrastructure around oneself–drivers, police protection, disaster management facilities…

jesus tit-fucking christ, this is for real? yeah, ol’ lucky barack obama, born into blackness. cause you know national politics is totally a black dude’s game. i mean, the senate is chock-full of blacks. the congressional black caucus totally runs washington, you know.
and pointing out how incredibly fucking idiotic that is is attacking ferraro for being white. damn.
Justin
There’s Ms. Ferraro herself, doing her part to bring in the White Nationalist vote for Hillary.
Pelikan
I like to imagine myself walking into this thread, blinking, and then walking out in a hurry.
ThymeZone
I think Keith Olberman’s show nails it:
It’s the Pennsylvania strategy. They suggest a racial component (Obama is where he is because he is black) and dare Obama to say something about it.
No matter what happens, whether Obama goes after it or not, the language wins in central PA because it’s just like Alabama. White Alabama, that is.
That’s Keith’s suggestion, not mine. And I totally agree with it. The Clintons have figured out how to make a racist appeal in PA and keep their hands clean.
Without doubt, the most cynical thing I have ever seen in politics. This is worse than McCain’s Black Baby, and in my view, it disaulifies Clinton from office. Period.
myiq2xu
I can see Hillary screaming at the television while Ferraro’s being interviewed:
“Bitch! STFU! If you say another fucking word I’m gonna kick your wrinkled skank ass!”
Really, I can see her. I can hear her too. Bill’s hiding in the bathroom.
ThymeZone
Just to complete the picture here, mind you, the “Obama is where he is because he is black” remark is a couple days old, and even though I posted it … yesterday? …. has it received mention from a front page post here?
I see All Spitzer All the Time, and Let’s Give Clinton a Break …. but not a word about this deliberate racial bullshit strategy to appeal to the hillbillies and city goats who make up central Pennsylvania ….
Did I miss something? I don’t think so. Apparently we think being “nice” to the piece of dirt that is Hillary Clinton is more important than talking about the jaw-dropping racist crap coming from Geraldine Ferraro.
ThymeZone
Um, no, actually, according to MSNBC, the Clinton campaign is totally defending Ferraro’s statements.
Did you think this was an accident or something?
myiq2xu
Really?
Obama was riffing those “hoodwinked” and “bamboozled” lines in Mississippi that he used before. He was speaking to mostly black audiences.
He got them from Denzel Washington’s movie portrayal of Malcolm X. Malcolm X was a follower of Elijah Muhammed, just like Louis Farrakhan.
I call that cynical dogwhistling.
With a wink, wink – nudge, nudge.
rawshark
So if a black man says hoodwinked he’s a follower of Farrakhan? And this is because Malcolm X used the word?
ThymeZone
Yeah, you’re an ass, myiq. You have descended into bullshit farce at this point, you aren’t even addressing the issue at hand.
chopper
no, denzel washington used the word in a movie.
my god, that must be it. it explains everything! this is all denzel washington’s fault. he and sinbad need to take responsibility for the damage they’re doing to the democratic party.
chopper
BTW, isn’t obama half-black? so what, he only got halfway where he is today from that, right?
how did he get the rest of the way?
chopper
and also, from the GOS..
April 15, 1988, Washington Post:
she’s a charmer.
ThymeZone
Rezko money. Must have been the Rezko money. So, it’s the blacks and the Rezkos and the insider help that got him where he is today. Just another affirmative action guy who climbed up the ladder while stepping on the fingers of better qualified white folks.
Now he’s attacking Ferraro because she is white.
Who said that? She did.
rawshark
She’s just saying what people want to hear someone say. She’ll be rewarded for the hit.
I’m not kidding. Things are said when only white people are in ear shot, even today.
myiq2xu
When I first heard Russert’s debate question about Farrakhan I thought it was ridiculous and unfair.
But then when Obama started reusing the “hoodwinked” and “bamboozled” lines from the Malcolm X movie, it clicked.
He’s been accused of plagiarism for using those lines. Now he’s using them again. In front of predominantly black audiences.
The movie was a portrayal of a member of the Nation of Islam. Farrakhan’s group. Most young people have no memory of Malcom X, they are only familiar with the movie.
He’s dogwhistling.
BTW – Obama is the product of a white mother from Kansas and a African father. His step-father was Indonesian, he was raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. He now lives in Chicago.
The clip of him speaking in Mississippi shows him speaking with a southern drawl.
myiq2xu
I remember a black comedian saying that the more successful Tiger Woods gets, the whiter he gets.
First he was black, then “bi-racial,” then “part-black.”
Then the comedian said if Woods gets accused a raping a white girl, he’ll be a “n-word” again.
Liberal Masochist
TZ – If this is a deliberate strategy, the fuse is too long until Pennsylvania. Six weeks??? People will stop talking about this in about 6 days. All it will do is get more blacks to the polls in the intervening primaries – speaking of which, the MUP is going to win Miss.
AnneLaurie
Not actually OT, if you assume NSA’s “leak” about Client #9 was intended to distract our ever-distractable MSM. The top story on the evening news was Spitzer, followed by the Wall Street “recovery” (aka “The Fed buys Countrywide’s bad loans with OUR tax dollars”). “Reality-based General jumps ship in advance of Dubya’s newest global tantrum” only ranked third, after the first round of insomnia and bladder-leakage ads.
I’m assuming that the “Ooo, juicy” leak is related to last week’s “surprise” NSA admission that maybe they kinda accidentally sorted just might have wire-tapped a few thousand domestic phone lines, just by mistake, because it’s so hard to tell a Democratic prosecutor named Spitzer from a potential al-Queda terr-rist. Whenever the thugs working for the Oval Office Occupants admit that something illegal “might” have happened, you can assume they’ve committed another huge honking illegality and are pre-empting even the mild squeaks that the MSM might muster.
myiq2xu
Okey-doke Y’all?
tBone
Shorter myiq2xu: Run, jackalope, run!
I hope you’re getting paid for this shit. What do you charge, $5,000 an hour?
myiq2xu
Unlike you, I do it for love.
Dug Jay
Complete and total bullshit. You really need to start getting your news from some other source than Olbie/MSNBC.
ThymeZone
So, for the love of — what, Clinton? — you sit here day in and day out and act like a complete asshole?
Oh, the inanity.
myiq2xu
With God as my witness, I really thought turkeys could fly.
ThymeZone
Really. They said it twice in about 7 minutes:
Clinton campaign defending Ferraro.
Clinton campaign refusing to distance itself from Ferraro.
Let’s see. MSNBC, or some spooftroll butthead named Dug Jay who posts on an obscure blog, mainly as an ankle biter.
MSNBC, or ankle biter? MSNBC, or ankle biter?
This is hard. I am going to need some time to make a choice here.
Justin
I’d happily let the ankle biter hold my balls out of the way while I fuck a $5,500 an hour whore.
I’m just sayin’.
myiq2xu
Here’s the relevent part of the movie that Obama is
plagiarizingmimicking:Yeah, that’s not racist.
myiq2xu
Your balls get in the way while you’re fucking?
Me ‘ats off to the Duke!
Asti
Good choice to (little letters that signify both ThymeZone’s and my first name, in that order) ;)
ihatespam
So your mom thinks the lord is essentially good and that life-saving surgery is drastically overpriced. It makes sense to me.
Asti
Well, I keep hoping he’ll pull my string (and then he may creating such a fuss here for awhile), but, he apparently is looking at the one Jen is holding. :(
Dug Jay
Come on, ThymeZone. You have previously asserted on this blog that you didn’t drink…alcohol. Maybe. But I’m inclined to think that, if you’re not boozing, then you must be higher than a kite on some chemical compound given your irrationality and general overall level of discourse (I know you’re not good with fancy words…”discourse” means :to converse, to engage in an exchange of thoughts and ideas, etc.).
Several media have reported that Hillary has stated that there was no place in her campaign for those kind of thoughts and that she disagreed with them.
Personally, I think the words of Ferraro – in their full context – are not that inflammatory, and have been blown out of all proportion. The Obama campaign has treated this in the smae manner that one might have expected fron the Reverand Al Sharpton, about whom this current campaign is beginning to resemble.
ThymeZone
She’s holding a string? I thought she was flipping me the bird :)
ThymeZone
Uh huh. Apparently her campaign people are saying otherwise, which is what MSNBC is reporting.
Like I said, them, or you. Can you give me a few reasons why I’d pick you, over ….. anyone?
Take your time, I know it’s a hard question.
And hey, your “you must be on something” argument is really brilliant. Where did you get that, at your last Narconon meeting? Truly, truly original and brilliant.
Asti
Gee, is this what it’s like TZ to have you share something with someone? You open up better to someone you say you have a hard time dealing with than someone you’ve spent thousands of hours talking to, ummm, yeah, I’d call that looking at her string.
Justin
So you’re outright lying now?
She did not say that such comments have no place in her campaign. She said that both campaigns have should repudiate such comments, because both have experienced them.
In other words, “He did it first.”
She then failed to specifically reject Ferraro’s comments. She didn’t specifically address Ferraro’s comments at all. She issued a general statement that dirty politics are ‘regrettable’.
Dug Jay
What on earth does a court reporter kmow about anything, nitwit?
tBone
Ka-ching! Another $1,000 for myiq2. Does Mark Penn leave the money on the nightstand, or do you make him pay up front?
Dug Jay
And Justin, it appears you also have a little trouble understanding the meaning of “complex words.”
myiq2xu
If she wants you to pull her finger, she’s a he.
Asti
I’ve seen TZ drink ONE alcoholic drink, ever. He drinks a lot of coffee and tea, he drinks very little alcohol.
It’s your personal preference to believe Ferraro’s words aren’t as inflammatory. If he doesn’t agree, that doesn’t mean he’s drinking or drugging or anything.
tBone
Please, explain to us the full context. We await with bated breath.
Asti
Ooops, I lie, sorry… I’ve seen him drink TWO drinks (forgot about the Margarita).
Asti
Yeah, well, I liked it better that way.
Justin
No, I’m good with complex words. What Hillary didn’t do is say “I reject Geraldine Ferraro’s assertion that Obama is lucky to be black, and the implication that his race is instrumental in where he got to be today. I also reject her claim that responding to that attack is reverse racism.”
No, instead Hillary said that both campaigns have stooped to regrettable attacks (thus falsely implying that both are equally responsible for the current degraded tone of the contest), and both should avoid them in the future (falsely implying that both are equally planning on dirty politics).
She didn’t even mention Ferraro’s name.
Dug Jay
As noted in today’s WaPo site: “Some Obama supporters back him because they want to make history–and his race has a lot to do with their belief that he will. It is also the reason he has such strong support from African Americans, without which Clinton would be beating him.”
Ferraro’s comments may have been poorly chosen, but that doesn’t make them incorrect.
Conservatively Liberal
If some chick wants me to pull her string, I will pass. Her CP (cotton pony) is her business, not mine.
;)
Ferraro says that Obama would not be where he was if he was white, and she said virtually the same thing about Jesse Jackson twenty years earlier. That is not accidental, that is on purpose. Once can be a possible mistake or poor choice of words, twice is deliberate. She is framing Obama as the ‘black candidate’, and this dogwhistle will work on the Archie Bunker types they want to appeal to.
Hillary gets called a monster and they throw a hissy fit. They say Obama is where he is because he is black, and they think that saying this is perfectly all right. Yup, Clinton Rules once again.
I like the attempt to tie Obama’s use of ‘hoodwinked’ and ‘bamboozled’ and the Malcom X movie. This is just another ‘He is black!!!!‘ reference they are trying to hang around his neck.
ZOMG! He is speaking in code to fellow blacks!!!!
I have used those words, and I have never even seen the movie. So am I speaking in code to blacks and not even knowing it?
You racist assholes keep trying, and I hope it backfires in your faces.
tBone
It’s instructive to view the Clinton campaign’s actions in their full context.
Asti
You’re mind is not in the place mine is, that’s for sure. By the way, that was pretty sick.
tBone
Dug Jay enjoys blowing goats and being a receiver in donkey shows.
Now, my comments may have been poorly chosen, but that doesn’t make them incorrect.
Asti
Geez, no, that’s not inflammatory. Barack looks better in thie campaign than Hillary ever did (he’s calm, he’s collected and campaigning without negativity) and apparently, if he was white and held the same intelligence, he’d hold a job equivalent to being a clerk in a grocery store. How fucking RUDE!
Dave_Violence
Good for John Cole’s mom!
Yeah, five grand an hour… Perhaps that’s what she cost, rather than what she got paid, as in “Bitch, give me my money…”
Or whatever.
Politicians need to keep their noses clean. What gets me is Spitzer’s astonishing arrogance. Yeah, he can be the meanest, bastard elected official there is, but why would he forget that he’s got enemies who are waiting for any transgression on his part… to pounce!
Because of what he (allegedly, eh?) did, he gave his enemies (again, didn’t he remember the grade school days? Your enemies will gladly wait to serve the revenge dish cold) the perfect moment.
Also, what he did (allegedly…) is illegal. It doesn’t matter if he was this or that or housed orphans and widows. He broke the law and for that he can be impeached and it’s all legal. Technicalities, big or small, are the law of the land and no lawyer worth his/her $100,000 bonus can argue otherwise. You break the law and you’re not in control. This is what happened to Bill Clinton, though he survived.
Spitzer might not, though, as his problems may involve breaking tax laws (very bad).
What a jerk Spitzer is. Sure, he’s not sending millions of Americans to their deaths daily like George Bush (which, surprisingly, isn’t illegal), he has admitted breaking the law on national television, it appears. Ooops.
Dug Jay
While the YouTube spot is pretty funny, I guess it does tend to reinforce the existence of the racist approaches that occasionally have appeared in both campaigns.
Asti
Ooooooooooh! OUCH! Ba-da-bing!
myiq2xu
From MSNBC:
Asti
It was not a supporter who chose to put more faith in a Republican hellbent on going to war with Iran as a more qualified candidate for the job she’s also positioning for than a fellow Democrat.
She does NOT play nice.
Urbaniak
Best. Post. Ever.
myiq2xu
The Daily Show is hilarious tonight on the Spitzer(swallows) feeding frenzy:
“Spitzer linked to a prostitution ring – through his penis.”
ThymeZone
Yeah, when Obama talks about how Hillary only got where she is by being a white woman married to a president, he is doing the same thing the Clinton campaign is doing.
Justin
That’s creepy… when you channeled Hillary just then, it was like it was really her!
Dug Jay
I also see that there is more than a little misogyny present in some of the Obama supporters here. Someone with more time and patience can explain what that word means to TZ and Justin.
Justin
What does misogyny have to do with calling racism what it is?
Seriously, you’re going to have to unpack that a bit for me. Because if you don’t, I’m left thinking that any criticism of Hillary at all is misogyny just because she’s a woman.
I don’t recall mentioning her gender, or ascribing anything to her behavior on that basis. Please quote me if I’m wrong.
myiq2xu
You could almost see the knee-high spike-studded leather boots, the neoprene bustier and the strap-on “appliance.”

myiq2xu
I would like to be the first to point out that Hillary, despite finishing second in the Democratic Primary in a Republican state, has more votes than McCain.
Asti
Justin, you are left thinking it because that’s all there is. Any attack on Hillary is racist.
I am supporting Barack Obama, yet, I do have something that I feel makes me a bit uncomfortable about him, his Christian faith, I don’t believe in Christianity at all, so, for me to support him takes a bit of wrangling that. I’m glad that since he considers himself a Christian, he considers himself to be one of those “love one another” Christians and not the condemning hypocritical kind that hangs out in evangelical circles. See? I can find something negative about the person I am supporting, and not resorting to race at all. It would be nice if Hillary’s supporters (the real ones) would take some pointers from this. Of course, the supporters here are largely spoofers who plan to pull the lever for Barack one day.
Justin
Not seeing any misogyny here. Hillary generally condemned in both campaigns what she specifically didn’t condemn in her own. You come along and say:
You’re channeling Hillary’s response exactly: falsely implying that both campaigns are equally guilty in general of what the Clinton campaign is specifically guilt of.
How is that misogynistic?
[See? I can has complex words!]
Asti
Preview is my friend, and we’re not on speaking terms these day, apparently.
I meant to say Justin, you are left thinking it because that’s all there is. Any attack on Hillary is
racistsexist.Asti
What do you expect when Rush Limbaugh is out there telling his listeners to vote for Hillary.
ThymeZone
Oh heck, that’s nothing. Hillary is out there telling her audience to vote for McCain.
Brachiator
Any attack? Any attack at all? By anyone? Sexist?
Or is it just attacks by Justin?
Even so.
ThymeZone
I don’t think Asti meant that, Brach. I think she was mocking the idea that any attack on HRC is sexist.
myiq2xu
Remember when Edwards was accused of racism by Obama supporters for claiming he was the most electable Democrat?
Asti
This is the most confusing campaign I think I’ve ever witnessed. It’s all gaming the system, thank goodness there’s ONE sane and calm candidate out there (of coures, I mean Barack, just so you spoofers don’t think I left the door open for you to insert your lunacy).
Asti
yeah, that one!
rawshark
Dude, that is so weak. You should have stuck with your first reaction. It is ridiculous and you’re wanting it to mean more doesn’t change it. Am I plagiarizing Samuel L Jackson whenever I say ‘motherfucker’? Only if I say it real intense like? Do I not get to be president now?
If you didn’t have your head up Clinton’s ass you would see how stupid this is and would be laughing with us at the clown who actually brought that here, which sadly, in this case is you. Plagiarizing a movie? Using it to imply a connection to the Nation Of Islam?
WEEEEEEEEEEEEAK!!!!! You’re almost making think of voting for McSame. Neither McSame nor Clintagain will last two terms anyway.
ThymeZone
Despite that, you understand it perfectly. That’s because you are being reasonable and not letting yourself get swept away with the baloney. If everyone here were as reasonable as you are in the middle of this, we might not all agree but at least we’d have some more illumination.
Asti
You better not be trying to blame that on Obama, what his supporters do he has no control over. MOreover, no, I don’t remember… and, I have reason to believe that a large percentage of people who would do such a thing are more inclined to hang out in the Hillary camp.
The fact that he isn’t attacking Hillary on any grounds of sexism would be unpalatable for the kind who you are describing.
myiq2xu
No every attack on Hillary is sexist. In fact, very few of the attacks I’ve seen are purely sexist.
Some attacks have a valid basis but take the form of a sexist attack, like referring to her time as First Lady as a “hostess” or asking how “fucking the President” (or tasting another woman’s lipstick on his dick) qualifies her to be President.
ThymeZone
Moreover. I just love that.
ThymeZone
myiq, we already had that discussion. Did you not catch on to the fact that HRC brought that criticism upon herself by trying to puff up her experience as First Lady into CIC material? Hello?
rawshark
Did you just call her Lady? Mysogynist! Hate Crime! Take your hate crime somewhere else pal.
myiq2xu
Really? Then please explain why he keeps using language taken from a racist speech in a movie about Malcolm X when speaking to predominately black audiences?
It’s not about plagiarism, but good try trying to conflate the issue. He is using the words of a racist.
If Hillary kept talking to white, southern audiences about “states rights” no one would think she was discussing a arcane legal theory.
demimondian
I hope that Clinton rejects and repudiates (that is the magic formula, right?) Ferraro’s loathsome remarks. I understand that Ferraro may have meant to say “women have it worse than any man”, which is not true — there’s no way to measure the relative burdens different people bear — but is at least understandable. However, that is not what she said, and what she said was racist.
demimondian
So why aren’t you voting for Nader, then?
ThymeZone
Well, she was a Goldwater Girl.
Asti
NoIQ, I linked to a WIKI article that quoted the official duties of the First Lady, she is the official hostess of the White House. As I said when I posted that link, if you had a problem with it, why did you never bring it up until now?
From Wiki:

That’s not a southern drawl that’s just how black folk say ‘shit’. ‘Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeee-it, y’all done been hoodwinked yo.’
Damn now I’ve gone and plagiarized Denzel, Isiah Whitlock and every rapper on the east coast.
myiq2xu
Naughty naughty Mater Yoda, you cut out the first part of my sentence:
I said there was a valid basis, but the attack took the form of a sexist attack.
The paduan wins
ThymeZone
Nader is your idea of calm and sane?
I think Asti is smarter than that, demi moore.
Asti
You think Nader isn’t gaming the system? You CAN’T be serious. This is the worst time to have a third party candidate (ummm, and wasn’t it reported in past elections he was using Republican support?) trying to take votes (which would only benefit Republicans btw) – no thanks.
myiq2xu
Okay, how about the “fucking the President” or “tasting another woman’s lipstick on his dick” part?
The trolls around here are getting lame.
ThymeZone
Let’s have a little realtime reality? Here’s the Obama campaign message I just got, Asti probably got it too:
Questions?
ThymeZone
Just because the remarks are crude doesn’t mean they are wrong. We asked you, repeatedly: How does her First Lady experience qualify her for CIC?
Did I miss the answer? Could you reprise it for me?
Asti
I think she always has been. Personally I think the only reason she’s not running as a Repub these days is because it would ruin her husband’s legacy. Seh’s sort of stuck with being a Dem whether she wants to be or not.
Asti
yes, I did, I considered posting it, glad to see you did.
Asti
And yet, he’s raising more money, earning more delegates and making it look easier than both of them put together. ;)
Gus
Paul L you incredible idiot, Barney Frank is openly gay. Gerry Studds, well I’m really too young to remember him. McGreevey might be a closet Republican, though unlike Senator “I’m not gay” Craig, he at least came out of the closet eventually. Stick to the Duke lacrosse case.
ThymeZone
I think there is a lot of truth to that. If she were on her own (no Bill), I think she might do that. I think if she could get past the primary season, she’d kill in the general, pulling in the women and the independents that follow her, to the GOP.
What would be her Achilles Heel? Abortion? I don’t know.
rawshark
I said plagiarism because you did. You want to walk it back fine but don’t act like I brought it up.
I think he’s using the words from a famous movie in order to relate to folks who maybe, just maybe, I know I’m profiling here but I think it fits, people who saw that movie. You want to call it racism go for it. Its your opinion. If that’s the conclusion you draw fine. But my point and I think most people here have made this point too, my point is that you only see it as racism because you want to. You choose that perspective. (Same way Jesse Jackson can see racis under every stone).
I don’t see it as the same as Reagan giving a states rights speech to white southern crowds because I don’t think Obama can be accused of speaking in codes. What’s the code? Why have a code? Is there a secret underground of black people dis-satisfied with the treatment by white people? No. Its public, no need of codes. You’re projecting.
Asti
ThymeZone
Yes. What I heard on cablepunditblatherhour tonight was was that just about the only thing she still can “win” would be popular vote count. She can’t win the delegate race at the voting booth or caucus room. She can’t win the count of states. She might pull off a popular vote lead if she does well in PA.
Some wag said … wait, it was Buchanan, not a wag, a political perennial talkalot … that if she gets the popular vote count the Supers could be persuaded to fall into her column.
At which time, my digestion went to hell.
myiq2xu
Y’all are part of His campaign?

Asti
Hmmm, must remember certain characters are also considered to be opening HTML tags… oops!

Yes. How do I get on the To: list?
I figure its because she could never win as a republican. Could you imagine the party that tried to remove her husband from office nominating her to that office?
Asti
I’m riding the MUP NoIQ, I’m feeding it green to keep it alive, and I get messages from the campaign as a result.

Yes, Asti and I are both Obama boosters, and there are several others here who are too (they can identify themselves as desired).
We think his calm rational approach and lack of a stack of IOUs to the Washington power machine make him a good choice.

Relate to people who saw that movie. Black people who saw that movie, since he keeps saying it to predominantly black audiences.
Here’s the relevent part of the speech he’s riffing from:
Malcolm X was a racist and a member of the Nation of Islam.
From wiki:
Obama is using the words of a black racist to “relate to folk” who happen to be black.
The words of a man who belonged to the same organization that Louis Farrakhan still belongs to.
BTW – I only pointed out the plagiarism allegation because it raises the question as to why Obama keeps using those same words after being accused of plagiarism.
ThymeZone
Exactly, and the great thing is, just $5 is enough if that is all you can do. The man set a one-month record on the strength of many thousands of small donations.
ThymeZone
Next, myiq will lecture us on the reasons why no rational black person in the US would be wary of, or pissed of at, white people.
Mr. Iq will begin his lecture with the statement “Hey, some of my best friends are Negroes.”

I honestly forgot to add “Did you skip the snark icon?” at the end of my post to Asti.
I’m going to hire a copy editor.
Actually, stuff like this is crude, but not sexist.
Which means what, exactly?
I was raised in Texas and moved to California. My younger sister was born in California, and moved to Texas. She has a drawl. I don’t. But I can do a West Texas, Oklahoma, or Georgia accent (and they are all different) at the drop of a hat. Go figure.
There’s a clip of Senator Clinton speaking before a black audience and trying to channel her inner Oprah. It’s lame, but it just … ain’t no big thang.

Some people easily adapt their language to the local accent by pure accident. I happen to be one of those people. I went to South Carolina once for a couple of days, by the end of the weekend, I was noticing the change in my language.
ThymeZone
I can think of 92688 reasons to agree on that one.
Conservatively Liberal
My support went Gore, then Dodd and then Obama. At one time I said I could not vote for Obama, but after listening to him and reading up about his views I was sold. I still have some hesitation due to his experience and age, but he has an impressive past. Of all of the candidates we have had this year, he is clearly the best bar none. I am glad I took the time to read up on him, it was worth it.
So I was not a MUP rider from day one, but I am on it now and I am riding this pony right through the finish line. If Obama wins the primary, I will finally be able to vote for someone and actually feel good about doing so. I don’t see eye to eye with him on some issues, but I am realistic enough to know that getting the ‘perfect’ candidate is never going to happen. He is more than good enough, and I hope he gets the chance that he (and we) deserve after living through the ‘dark ages’ the last seven years (more like the last 45 years actually).
I may be an independent voter, but I was a Democratic party member all of my life until going independent. My preferences still lean Democratic, but at least I do not feel bound to support the party line when I disagree with it.
Freedom baby! Ya gotta love it. I sure do.
ThymeZone
Oh for sure. I can’t spend an hour in the South without sounding like John Hagee. Seriously! Okay, the voice, not the content.
TenguPhule
Indeed. And in BJ, even the first is not necessarily so.
myiq2xu
I am a Hillary supporter. I have no friends.
BTW – “Negro” is politically incorrect. So is “colored.”

Wow, we better make a searchable database of all of the words, sentences and paragraphs written by Malcom X, Farrakhan and any other black person who scares white people. Then we will feed every word and phrase uttered by Obama and his campaign through it, find all of the ‘bad’ words, sentences and phrases, then we will have Obama go out and apologize for each and every match-up found.
You stupid fucks want to drag race into this so badly that you conjure up any way you can to associate Obama with the ‘evil’ black guys who scare whites to vote white. Keep flogging that dead horse though, there might be a tiny bit of flesh that you have not stripped from the bones yet.
Asshats.
myiq2xu
Things have changed since your youth. We have 50 states now.
Asti
Don’t be concerned by the spoof, he doesn’t mean a word of it, this is all just being done for shits and giggles.
ThymeZone
Me either. For a long time. He won me over.
ThymeZone
Yes, CL, myiq knows that racism is just a divisive trick made up by black people to manipulate them and get them to vote for welfare and give away government-fried chicken.
Those clever negroes, always looking for ways to fuck us over.
Asti
Was that supposed to be intelligent or funny? It missed the mark on both counts.
ThymeZone
Okay, everyone to the day room. myiq is going to read to us about the Tar Baby and the briar patch.
Uncle Remus, uncle Iq! Uncle Remus!
myiq2xu
From C&L:
Democrats received approximately 3 times as many votes as McCain did in ole’ Miss, and even the 2nd place finisher got over 40k more votes, despite getting beat by a big (20%+) margin.
In other news, in the Democratic primary Hillary finished 2nd, Obama finished next to last.
ThymeZone
It just doesn’t take a lot to entertain you, does it?
myiq2xu
“Zip-a-dee do-dah, zip-a-dee ay, my oh my what a wonderful day . . .”
Asti
McCain isn’t running for the candidacy, you idiot, he already has it. Missippi had an OPEN primary, the people voted for a real race, and probably half of them were Republicans playing the Limbaugh game (and some of them not so well, I might add).
In other news, in the Democratic primary Hillary finished 2nd, Obama finished next to last.
Uhhh, who else was on that ticket? Obama won MS, do you want to revise that?
ThymeZone
You ain’t just whistlin’ Dixie, MikeU.
Asti, help me out here, I can’t work with this guy’s material at all …..
rawshark
Which is really a complete waste of time. The only people who could be made to change their vote based on this crap wouldn’t be voting for a black man anyway. Someone like MyIQ for instance. Can you see him voting for Obama if HRC doesn’t get the nomination? I can’t. I see a vote for McCain. No one can say the crap he’s saying about Obama (racist, sending coded NOI messages) and then pull the lever for the guy. What MyIQ is saying and what’s coming out of the HRC campaign is ‘HRC or Bust (McCain)’.
Asti
Oh God, I need to go to bed. That was an unplanned faux pas, believe it or not. Mississippi is not going to like that. Opps, apologies to the Mississipians.
p.s. – NoIQ, I should have block quoted that third paragraph in my last post too.
myiq2xu
“When I was a little bitty boy
My grandma bought me a cute little toy
Two Silver bells on a string
She told me it was my ding-a-ling-a-ling”
Asti
I realize it’s difficult, but, in a couple months, he won’t be able to do this anymore, so there’s that. ;)
myiq2xu
Even though my vote probably won’t matter (Big Smoggy is true-blue) I will vote for Obama if he is the nominee.
rawshark
To add to a point I made earlier:
unless Reagan was accused of racism by another republican running for the nomination
Asti
Rawshark, calm down, NoIQ is a persona, just like TZ, and the person behind him probably already voted in a primary and pulled the lever for Obama. ;) NoIQ is spoof, and almost at it’s finest (save for DougJ of course).
ThymeZone
Except for Trent Lott.
rawshark
Are you brain damaged? You spend all this time trying to convince me he’s a racist and therefore, I presume, shouldn’t be voted for but you will vote for him? Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot?
If the sheeeeeeeeee-it you spewed above isn’t enough to prevent you from voting for the guy why did you spew it?
Asti
Oh God, I LOVE that. I’m gonna get that on a shirt. ;)
See my post at 12:38 ::grins::
ThymeZone
–To break our hearts?
–To taunt us AGAIN?
–To get a grade in John’s class?
–All of the above?
Asti
Sorry to inform you of this, TZ, but Trent Lott is no longer Mississippian. Ever since Katrina, after Bush offered to rebuild his house, his abode has belonged to D.C. – that means that for about two years he was a senator without a state. ;)
Asti
I vote “All of the above”
myiq2xu
Reading is a life skill.
I NEVER said Obama was a racist. I said he was using racist dogwhistles.
If Obama and/or Hillary are guilty of the worst accusations made against them, they are still far superior to McCain or any other Republican contender.
Asti
Not according to Hillary.
::head crashes against keyboard::
myiq2xu
Asti
I got news for you, I’m the only student in TZ’s class. He is homeschooling me. Your not invited.
myiq2xu
When Luke was sent out to face Darth Vader, was Master Yoda not still his teacher?
Asti
No. Luke was a fictional character, never existed, is NOT real, and never had a Master Yoda, or a chance to face Darth Vader. Darth Vader, however IS real, he resides in the Vice President’s mansion.
TZ, can I get extra credit for this exercise, please?
ThymeZone
That means … we are in a class by ourselves :)
And MikeU was expelled for bad behavior.
myiq2xu
I notice that you never said that Master Yoda was fictional.
Asti
Little green men have always existed. ;)
ThymeZone
I thought it was Alec Guinness.
Anyway, MikeU is being sent to the principal’s office. Again.
Of course. Please remain after class ….
myiq2xu
Fixt
I cannot remain silent any longer!
Asti
Yes, sir!
ThymeZone
Accuracy, accuracy ….
myiq2xu
Oh shit! “Heartbreakers” is on, I gotta go.
I luvs me some J-Love Hewitt!
Asti
The truth is, you weren’t teacher’s pet, you never were!
myiq2xu
“This isn’t what it looks like! Her hair got stuck in my zipper!”
Spitzer(swallows) should have tried that line.
Asti
There you have it folks, a little bit of truth from the persona we all have come to know as the one who is sure his IQ is 2 times yours.
Asti
Hey, if you like anorexic stick figures, I say go for it, they need all the love they can get.
ThymeZone
Alright, class dismissed. MikeU, please report to the office for discipline.
Asti, please see me during lunch hour.
ThymeZone
Truly, what is wrong with that girl?
Asti
I’ll be there.
myiq2xu
“THANK YOU SIR! MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?”
ThymeZone

ThymeZone
I may have to put you in detention.
ThymeZone
Goodnight to all, I must rest up for tomorrow’s round of bloginsanity.

Traveling on the LA commuter trains, I watched as a young Latina, maybe 4 years old, talked to her younger brother. She said everything twice, once in perfectly accented, perfectly idiomatic Spanish, and again in perfectly accented, perfectly idiomatic English. She may have been driving her parents and brother crazy, but she was clearly having fun with her effortless facility with both languages. I recall mentioning to my traveling companion that this young lady might rule the world when she grew up.
Actually, it’s “government cheese.” Really.
On the other hand, Geraldine Ferraro’s odd racial tinged ramblings represent a kind of crossing of racial Rubicon for the Clinton campaign. Although Ferraro may not have entirely intended her remarks the way that they have been taken, she has encouraged the media to treat Obama’s Mississippi win simplistically, focusing on the racial disparity between the white and black vote, and indulging in speculation about whether Pennsylvania voters might “not be able” to vote for Obama.
But here’s a little historical perspective: In the 2004 Mississippi, John Kerry won with 78% of votes cast. John Edwards was in second place, with 7.3% of the vote. Al Sharpton was in third place, with 5.2% of the vote. Although I didn’t spend time looking for a racial breakdown, it is obvious that Sharpton did not get a majority of the black vote.
Also, in 2004, Kerry won 59,815 of a total of 76,298 votes cast. In 2008, Obama won 253,441 of 417,531 votes cast (60.7%).
McCain already has the Republican nomination sewn up, so there is no great reason to read much into the fact that the total Republican vote in Mississippi was about 142,000.
Still, if I were in charge of the Democratic Party, I would see a lot of advantages in having the majority of super delegates to commit to Obama now, wrap up the candidate selection process, and push every button possible to register voters and to press every possible voting advantage.
Just saying.
ThymeZone
Well I could not resist leaving you with this.
This guy is just … amazing.
myiq2xu
Speaking only for myself, since I do not represent the Clinton campaign, did anyone consider that HRC may have said
“Fine, he wants to go there, let’s go there”
Asti
Wow, that’s a HUGE leap in numbers this year. I foresee a very large turnout in November, and an electorate that is very tired of the status quo.
myiq2xu
I (gag, choke) agree with Asti
Asti
It never ceases to amaze me when some presidential candidate is involved in lobbying deals like this, and still thinks he deserves the right to be president.
John McCain doesn’t want to be President, he wants to ride in limos, be doted on by a huge staff of caretakers, be paraded about as the most important man in the world and spend big money on war in Iran while enjoying those luxurious accomodations.
Cain
You must be mistaken, the TZ I know is a 70 year old woman. I know this because I saw it on the internet.
cain
Asti
1. I think Obama’s MS win is a huge slap in the face to her on a day when she made a damned fool of herself
2. What I want to know is if any of the Amish are going to vote, and if they do, who would they choose? Of course, there probably aren’t a lot of votes in that category. I’m not looking at a large pool of votes, but a social question. (I’m funny that way.)
Asti
Oh, you saw TZ on the internet, I defer to your superior knowledge…
Asti
and what event are you citing for the catalyst of such a thing?
Asti
Does this mean when a candidate goes to Georgia he or she shouldn’t partake of the peach pie? I’m just curious.
Dug Jay
Here’s a statement released by the Clinton campaign by Maggie Williams, Campaign Manager:
myiq2xu
Are they serving it at the Klan picnic?
myiq2xu
This is da shit:
rawshark
Writing is a life skill too bitch. You never said racist like you never said plagiarize. Fuck off, dick.
Asti
Perhaps Clinton would like to stop being so devisive?
