Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

How stupid are these people?

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Second rate reporter says what?

When I was faster i was always behind.

Stand up, dammit!

They spent the last eight months firing professionals and replacing them with ideologues.

Interesting Read

Mark Kleiman discusses his views on torture:

A reader writes to ask if I’m really certain that torture never produces true and valuable information.

Of course not. Indeed, I’m sure that the opposite is true. It would be astonishing if torture were nevereffective.

But the fact that torture is often not merely unproductive but counterproductive, and that the instances were it would be beneficial are so hard to pick out from the rest, makes a strong pragmatic case against it to go along with the absolutist moral case against it.

Read the whole thing.

Fooled Again

by John Cole|  November 7, 20056:10 pm| 27 Comments

I am in the middle of my complimentary copy of Fooled Again, Mark Crispin Miller’s 300 page polemic against the theocrats and ‘Busheviks’ who he believes stole the 2000 and 2004 elections for the Bush/Cheney crew, and while some of the stuff veers into outright fantasy, his assessment of Tom DeLaye is, in my opinion, spot on.

At any rate, when I finish it, I will discuss it in more detail, but right now, if you lefties want some partisan invective launched at all things GOP, this is a book you won’t want to pass up.

Some background on a pretty big flap between Miller and John Kerry here.

And just to let you know how left Miller is, Oliver stated to me in a private correspondence, “You’re reading it? thats fevered swamps even for me.”

Yes. That Oliver.

Camera Question

by Tim F|  November 5, 20056:34 pm| 26 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

For my wife’s birthday I’m planning to buy a digital camera to replace our beloved, stolen Sony DSC-V1 (no, funny guys, it’s not a dual-use gift. I have my own camera, but it’s an old Nikon film model and she likes digital). I had planned to pick up the Sony DSC-V3, but I know that a lot of people prefer Canon and honestly don’t know much about the new models of smallish digicams with decent manual control options. Any relevant advice or experience would be welcome.

Alito and Casey

Jeff Goldstein has an interesting analysis on the Casey/Alito bit that we have been talking about for the past few days.

This Matt Welch piece about Tony Pierce is also tangentially related.

Hugh Hewitt has up a blog poll (although wholly unscientific) on the Alito nomination.

Go play.
