Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You cannot shame the shameless.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Republicans in disarray!

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Most Disturbing Thing Ever

by John Cole|  October 11, 20058:02 pm| 44 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

This is the most disturbing damned thing I have read in years (h/t Feministe).

As you read it, try to cycle through the wrong turns your life would have to take before you would

A.) Find this sexually attractive
B.) Act upon that sexual attraction
C.) Admit publicly to said attraction and subsequent action
D.) Fool yourself into thinking this was a ‘relationship.’

I keep coming back to severe drug use or serious head trauma.

I don’t even know what category to file this under.

Is here.

*** Update ***

I see the dumbest person on the intertrons has referred to me as a whiny conservative for, well, I guess having the audacity to link to Jeff.

Question: If Amanda Marcotte trips on her penis while walking in the woods, when her head hits the ground, would it sound like lumber?

Answer: Who is Amanda Marcotte and who cares what she thinks?

The Nice Thing About Fall

by John Cole|  October 9, 20052:32 pm| 23 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

Other than football, the leaves, and the cool weather, the best part of it getting colder is that I can start making some of my favorite meals again.

Tonight, potatoes, ham, and green beans in a crock pot, with apple cider and pumpkin pie for dessert.

Next week- corned beef and cabbage.

Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston

I don’t know if I ever mentioned this before, but the other day I was having a conversation with one of my platoon buddies from the 11th Cav in the 90’s, and I was reminded that my First Sergeant is now the Sergeant Major of the Army.

No small deal, that. Plus, he is a local, born right near Frostburg.
