Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

All hail the time of the bunny!

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

The willow is too close to the house.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Be a wild strawberry.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Media Bias

Several weeks ago, Gore and Daschle railed about the ‘Conservative media bias.’ Gore went so far as to call conservative influence in the media a ‘fifth column.’ To prove that there exists a massive conservative media bias, go check the NY Times fawning lead editorial congratulating Al Gore for essentially doing nothing:

Al Gore deserves the gratitude of the nation, and not just conflicted Democrats, for his unquestionably painful decision not to run in 2004 for the presidency. With liberating decisiveness, the former vice president is forgoing his ultimate goal

Dance With the Girl Who Brung You

I am not sure why Krugman is employed by the NY Times as their economic analyst. It seems to me he does nothing but provide third-rate commentary on social/political issues. I thought that was Dowd’s job description.

Dead Man Talking

Apparently I am not the only one who was left utterly unmoved and unimpressed by Lott’s performance on BET.

President Bush will not intervene to rescue Senate Republican leader Trent Lott from a leadership struggle brought on by his remarks seen as endorsing racial segregation, Bush administration officials said on Tuesday.

The decision basically left the Mississippi Republican isolated in his struggle to hold on to power. He would be Senate majority leader when Republicans take control of the Senate in January.

Why should he? Any way you look at it, if I were President Bush, I would want Lott dead. And since when is Lott totally, across the board, in favor of affirmative action?

Are Republicans Morons?

Instead of meeting now and dealing with the Lott affair, Republicans have decided to wait until JANUARY 6TH, the day before Congress convenes, to discuss Lott’s leadership position. So, for three weeks, Democrat hacks and the media will be free to beat up on all Republicans while swinging at Lott.

Good thinking. Why not just wait and take all the bad press you can get for three weeks so that when you convene the collective reputation of the Congress is already besmirched. Why didn’t I think of that?

The reason they are probably waiting is because there is NO ONE competent enough to be Majority Leader.

Idiots.

The Real Reason Gore is Not Running in ’04:

A narrow majority of Americans said that Al Gore deserved another chance to run for the presidency, but fewer than half said they actually wanted Gore to run, according to a Washington Post poll conducted in the days immediately before the former Vice President announced his decision not to enter the 2004 race.

And fully half the country expressed a desire to leave the rancorous election of 2000 behind.

Republicans are most upset he is not running, I assure you.

It seems someone else is changing registration from Republican to Independent if Lott is Majority Leader in the next congress.

Sharpton vs. Brazile

Sharpton ain’t gonna know what hit him. I have seen Donna Brazile on several cable programs, and came away damn impressed despite the fact that we see eye to eye on NOTHING. Her performance on election night 2002 this year was excellent, despite how awful she must have felt. Let’s not forget that she, too, is prone to the occassional racial gaffe.
