On The Road – JanieM – Fall Color Part IV – Trees and Water

A beautiful ending to an absolutely gorgeous fall color series.  Special thanks to Mike in Oly and JanieM for their several submissions, and thanks to everyone who contributed.  If more Fall Color submissions come in, I will fit them into On The Road.  ~WaterGirl

JanieM

Mostly reflections.

The “ford” is impassable at times, depending on the river level. So, since I was last at this spot a few years ago, a bridge has been built above that spot. It’s not like there’s a lot of traffic through there, so I don’t know why a bridge was necessary. But here’s an older article that gives some background, including the trials of living next to a popular fishing and swimming spot.

When we can travel again, I’ll check out the new bridge. I have a feeling that as with the construction going on near the Marston Cemetery (in my last set of pics), I won’t think it’s an improvement. If there’s anything for sure besides death and taxes, it’s that time marches on whether we want it to or not.

On The Road – Karen H – Fall in La Veta, CO

In early October of this year I attended a photo workshop in La Veta, Colorado. I had signed up for it late last year before Covid-19 and wasn’t sure if I wanted to risk going. After all, my husband and I had been really careful to take all precautions when going out for essentials and staying home otherwise. We were reassured by the safety measures the organizer was taking for the workshop and we decided that we could travel safely by car so decided to go. There were only 4 other participants and the instructor, and most of our shoots were outdoors. I guess we managed our safety protocol well because we all came home safe and healthy.

It was a welcome respite from our months of stay at home and gave us a second wind to face the next however many months ahead.

On The Road – way2blue – Walchsee In November, Fall Color

A few photos for our fall color series.  I stayed in the village of Walchsee, Austria, in the Tyrolean Alps for a couple weeks in late 2009.  As I mentioned in a previous Walchsee series, the surrounding mountains host numerous, well marked hiking trails, with Alms and Hütte rewarding hikers (and mountain bikers) with beers and stunning views.  These photos are from shorter hikes in the flatlands rather than the mountains.

Trees starting to display their autumn colors, at the start of a favorite hike around the Schwemm Moorlands (Moorlandschaft Schwemm, a protected remnant bog that hosts a diversity of unique habitats).  The lower mountain slopes have been cleared for pasture.  Behind the barn, you can see a trail headed up the mountainside.

Mike in Oly

Watergirl requested one more set to fill out the last week of Fall Foliage posts. I aim to please so searched my photos for more and decided on these. A mix of fall colors in leaf and fruit. Hope you enjoy.

Beautyberry. While not very showy for fall color the fruits are a stand-out and always grab your eye with that unusual purple tone.

On The Road – UncleEbeneezer – Eastern Sierra Fall Color 2017

In non-Covid times, we try to go somewhere for Fall Color every year.  Living in Los Angeles, the easiest option is usually a trip to the Eastern Sierra where you get to see a ton of aspens (and some other trees/colors too, but mostly gold).  After going a little too late and a little too early in the previous couple years, we finally got the timing right in 2017 and got to se near-peak or peak color at multiple locations.  Here are some pics.  Enjoy!

Our first stop was at McGee Creek, which was gorgeous.  We didn’t really have time to hike, since we still needed to get to Mammoth (where we were staying) and we were already pretty tired from the long drive.

On The Road – Dagaetch – Fall in MA

Dagaetch

Maybe it’s just because I was able to get out more than usual (having finally finished grad school, yay), but I felt like the colors this year were as good as I’ve ever seen them. Even the trees at the side of the highways were glorious for a few days. Considering the anxiety I’ve been feeling over *gestures broadly*, it was awfully nice to spend a few hours each weekend just going somewhere with my camera and not thinking about anything else.

I’d never been here before, but had it marked as a possible location. What a beautiful place…I spent a very happy hour maneuvering around the rocks and fallen logs to take different views.

On The Road – way2blue – Salzburg In November, Fall Color

I was in Salzburg for a couple weeks in late 2010, visiting friends who live near the airport. They loaned me their mother’s bicycle to get around. I mostly rode along the path by the stream,

  • Glanbach

, on the back side of the airport or through the tunnel into

  • Altstadt

. Sometimes I would park the bike at the base of the ridge,

  • Mönchsberg

, which frames the southwest side of

  • Altstadt

, climb to the top for the view and to visit the modern art museum. Short cool days, cold nights with remarkably clear weather.
