An almost top 10,000 blog!

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Palin Reads All Newspapers

More from the trainwreck that was the Katie Couric interview:

COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this — to stay informed and to understand the world?

PALIN: I’ve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media —

COURIC: But what ones specifically? I’m curious.

PALIN: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.

COURIC: Can you name any of them?

PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news.

You can watch it here. Fingernails on a chalkboard.

Heads I Win, Tails You Lose

by John Cole|  September 30, 20089:37 am| 37 Comments

This post is in: Election 2008, Lies, Damned Lies, and Sarah Palin, Clown Shoes, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?

I missed this yesterday, somehow:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his top aides took credit for building a winning bailout coalition – hours before the vote failed and stocks tanked.

Shortly before the vote, McCain had bragged about his involvement and mocked Sen. Barack Obama for staying on the sidelines.

“I’ve never been afraid of stepping in to solve problems for the American people, and I’m not going to stop now,” McCain told a rally in Columbus, Ohio. “Sen. Obama took a very different approach to the crisis our country faced. At first he didn’t want to get involved. Then he was monitoring the situation.”
McCain, grinning, flashed a sarcastic thumbs up.

“That’s not leadership. That’s watching from the sidelines,” he added to cheers and applause.

John McCain, a few hours later when the bailout failed:

“Sen. Obama and his allies in Congress infused unnecessary partisanship into the process. Now is not the time to fix the blame. It’s time to fix the problem,” McCain said in a hastily called statement to the press here today.

Heads I win! Tails, you lose! And that last quote is actually a twofer, because McCain claims this is no time to be fixing blame… while blaming Obama.

Now, I understand most of us are cynical about politicians, and I understand that politicians are opportunistic, but aren’t they usually a little more subtle than this? I mean, can’t you at least try to not be blatantly full of it?

Or has McCain just given up?

Stop Pitying Her

So says Rebecca Traister:

Sarah Palin is no wilting flower. She is a politician who took the national stage and sneered at the work of community activists. She boldly tries to pass off incuriosity and lassitude as regular-people qualities, thereby doing a disservice to all those Americans who also work two jobs and do not come from families that hand out passports and backpacking trips, yet still manage to pick up a paper and read about their government and seek out experience and knowledge.

When you stage a train wreck of this magnitude — trying to pass one underqualified chick off as another highly qualified chick with the lame hope that no one will notice — well, then, I don’t feel bad for you.

When you treat women as your toys, as gullible and insensate pawns in your Big Fat Presidential Bid — or in Palin’s case, in your Big Fat Chance to Be the First Woman Vice President Thanks to All the Cracks Hillary Put in the Ceiling — I don’t feel bad for you.

Agreed.

Umm, Folks. That Was Sarah Palin Being Sarah Palin

If I hear one more person tell me that what we really need is for McCain’s handlers to let Sarah Palin be Sarah Palin, as if the real Sarah Palin was not the one offering up rambling gibberish to Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, but the one reading a speech at the RNC, I am going to scream. Michelle Bernard, on MSNBC, stated she can not believe the interview because the Palin speech at the RNC was so good, so obviously the handlers are hurting her and that is why she was terrible with Couric.

That is simply ass backwards. Sarah Palin read a speech off a teleprompter at the RNC, much of which was written BEFORE SHE WAS EVEN THE CANDIDATE. The real Sarah Palin, unscripted, and, if you will, Sarah Palin being Sarah Palin, was the babbling incoherency on display at CBS. That is why they are doing everything they can to hide her from the press. That is the real McCoy.

Heckuva job, Johnny Drama.

I’d Be Drinking Too

This post is in: Election 2008, Lies, Damned Lies, and Sarah Palin

While Joe Biden was doing the typical VP duties last night, appearing on every cable network post debate, you will never guess where the pitbull with lipstick was:

Perhaps it was coincidence that the song “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was playing as Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin worked the crowd at the Irish Pub last night.

But her amorous fans were definitely ready to let the moose-hunting Alaska governor rule.

“I expect her to be president of the United States one day,” said Suzanne Haney, the Republican leader for the 2nd Ward in South Philadelphia, who gave Palin a $2 bill for luck.

Palin appeared at the bar on 20th and Walnut streets last night to shake hands with her fans for about an hour before the first presidential debate. While the crowd inside was friendly, hundreds of people lined the street outside in protest with signs that read things like “Palin is Santorum With Lipstick.”

Now I can understand the need for some liquid confidence after that disastrous Couric interview, but with only a few days to go before the big debate, now might not be the best time to be doing kegstands in the Irish Pub.

“What are we going to do?”

by Michael D.|  September 26, 200810:27 am| 43 Comments

This post is in: Election 2008, Lies, Damned Lies, and Sarah Palin, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?, Rumormongering

Implosion:

Breaking News from Big Eddie:
McCain Camp insiders say Palin “clueless”
Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as “disastrous.” One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, “What are we going to do?” The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is “clueless.”

Awesome!
Popcorn, anyone?
Need a bailout strategy, Senator?

Update: Gonna add the Rumormongering category to this post. It’s not like we have anything to go on by Shultz here.

Update II:

An Ohio farmer would like to invite you to get lost inside the head of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Appropriate, since everything else seems to have gotten lost in there.

Update III: Even if Sarah Palin can’t win a debate, McCain can. In fact, he’s already won tonight’s debate!!
